2016 Legacy AwardTHE JAMES C. AND ANN BOWLING FAMILY
With more than a half century of service to Midway University, the James C. and Ann Bowling Family is the 2016 Legacy Award Honoree.
Kentucky native James C. Bowling was named to the Midway Board of Trustees in 1962. A descendent of the first American colonist to raise tobacco, Mr. Bowling became a leading executive with Phillip Morris. His commitment to education extended beyond his service to Midway—serving also on the Kentucky Independent College Foundation board,
the University of Kentucky Development Council, the University of Louisville Board of Overseers and the board of the King & Low-Heywood Thomas School in Stamford, Connecticut.
Upon Mr. Bowling’s death in 1997, Ann Bowling was elected to fill his position on the Midway Board of Trustees. She remained an active board member until 2008, missing only two board meetings during this eleven-year period. Since that time she has continued to serve as Trustee Emerita.
In 2012, James and Ann’s daughter, Belinda Bowling Metzger, was named to the Midway Board of Trustees. At their most recent meeting, the board elected Belinda to another four-year term of service, ensuring the Bowling family’s impact will continue even further.
