Third Sunday of Advent December 15, 2013

Parish Life

Be Still. Join us in taking some quiet time in stillness with our Lord in Adoration each Sunday in Advent from 12:30-2:30 p.m. in the Church.

Find Peace. Come learn how to pray with Scripture in a guided evening of reflection exploring the ancient way of praying the Bible, Lectio Divina. This evening will be a time of meditation and contemplation using Advent Scriptures. Hosted by the Saint Bede Retreat Ministry on Monday, December 16th at 7 p.m. in the Nave.

A Message for All Saint Bede Volunteers

This is the time of year when we like to stop and thank our MANY volunteers, who are at the heart of over 50 ministries at Saint Bede Catholic Church. To say we couldn’t do it without you is an understatement. As a small gesture of our gratitude, Monsignor Keeney, Father Asue, Father Glass and the Staff invite you to a Volunteer Reception during the Octave of Christmas -- Sunday January 5, 2014, from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. in the Commons. If you serve or have served in a ministry, please gather with us and fellow parishioners who make Saint Bede Catholic Church a welcoming community of disciples helping to grow disciples. Please call the Church Office at 229-3631 or email [email protected] if you plan to attend. Thank you.

The Filipino American Ministry is celebrating its traditional Simbang Gabi (Night Mass). Our parish will be hosting the Simbang Gabi Mass at 7 p.m., Friday, December 20, 2013. Please join us for this blessed holiday celebration. Msgr. Timothy Keeney, our Pastor, will concelebrate the Mass with Fr. Edgar Cleofe of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament.

Fellowship will follow the Mass in the church commons. Please bring your favorite kakanin or snack to share. Contact: Rey Apolonio 229-373, Ayma Ramboyong 259-4449 , or Vicky Nicholson 291-1395.

Monthly Maintenance Ministry: The MMM can use the talents of women, men, and children. Please meet your fellow parishioners on Saturday, December 21st, at 8:00 a.m. at the tool shed on the south side of the Church. Our work morning includes tasks that improve our grounds and buildings, and we wind up around 11:30 a.m.Whether you have served on MMM before, or are in-terested in helping for the first time, we would love to see you. All working people know the wise old saying, “Many hands make light work.” Feel free to recruit friends for us this Saturday and throughout the year. Par-ents will be surprised how much fun kids have volun-teering, so don't feel afraid to bring the next MMM gen-eration with you. There have been several children this year supporting us, and they are getting to understand the importance of 'giving back'. Thank you for your help, and please email Andrew Koenig if you can join us at [email protected].

Our appreciation to all those who serve in our hospital ministry – an extremely comforting ministry that serves a great need. We are looking for additional volunteers to call on either Sentara or Riverside hospitals, or both. If you would like to learn more about this ministry, please call the church office for information. Your consideration is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The 4 p.m. Christmas Eve Mass is our most crowded liturgy. The Knights of Columbus will be assisting in all lots and in the circle. Additionally, the Greensprings Chapel lot across the street will be utilized. Shuttle busses will be available to the church. Please cooperate to keep the traffic flow optimized. Front parking lots on both sides are reserved for handicap parking. Display handicap placards as you turn into the property. Come here early, as we expect to fill the lots and close the lots to traffic by 3:50 p.m. Please carpool if possible. Once inside, please be aware that seats cannot be saved for anyone after 3:40 p.m. Empty seats that are being held after that point must be relinquished as a courtesy to others. Your understanding is appreciated.

Family Friendly New Year’s Eve: All are welcome to a potluck dinner, games, and Christmas season celebration after the 5:30 p.m. Vigil Mass on December 31st in the Commons. Our evening will close with Adoration and Praise beginning at 8:45 p.m.
