Preface
Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the Organizing Committee, I would like to welcome you all to the 10th International Conference on Materials Science and Technology (MSAT-10) held from September 6 to 7, 2018 in Bangkok, ailand.
MSAT is recognized as one of the major series of conference in materials science and technology. e bi-annual conference strives to be a premier international multidisci-plinary conference. e event provides anarena for all stakeholders from academics, researchers and industrial leaders to share their latest research ndings, to discuss novel applications and to identify the challenges that lie at the frontier of materials science.
In conjunction with MSAT-10, two special events to be run along are Innovative Textiles for Future Healthcare Application and the MRS-ailand Annual Meeting.
To support of sustainable and green environment in ailand, we are going to transform the MSAT towards paperless conference. All information needed for the MSAT-10 will be available for participants via the MSAT-10 mobile application and the conference website.
Regarding the conference activities, we are proud to have 4 plenary and 21 invited lectures given by distinguished researchers in the eld of materials technology around the world. ey include 94 oral research presentations and 109 poster presentations covering recent progress and R&D activities ranging from fundamental research to applied research in the elds of materials science and technology.
We are also delighted to announce the number of participants to MSAT-10 to be over 500 persons from Germany, India, Japan, Malaysia, United Kingdom, United State of America, Singapore, China, South Korea and ailand.
Lastly, I would like to thank all of the sponsors who have contributed to the MSAT-10, without whom it would be dicult to organize a successful international conference. eir contributions are greatly appreciated.
Yours sincerely,
Dr. Julathep KajornchaiyakulChair of MSAT-10

3D Printing Materials Sciences
Y. Morris Wang Physical and Life Sciences Directorate, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory,
Livermore, CA 94550, USA Abstract The progress of materials science and technology is often propelled by the development and breakthrough of synthetic techniques. The recently emerged 3D printing technologies (or additive manufacturing (AM)) utilize computer-aided design files to produce materials and parts that have potential applications in multiple fields. Compared to conventional manufacturing techniques, AM has advantages of time- and cost-saving, minimum waste, and large design freedom for complex geometry components. Although AM focuses more frequently on an engineering scheme, it offers unique opportunities to tailor materials properties with highly nonequilibrium microstructures and/or through ingenious structural designs, leading to extraordinary materials properties that can extend far beyond those achievable via conventional processing methods. This helps to open a new field of 3D printing materials science. In this presentation we will show a few interesting examples of common engineering materials that can be manufactured by 3D printing technologies, including metals and alloys, ceramics, carbon, and lattice structures derived from these baseline materials. While we are excited about the unique properties that can be achieved in these materials, some serious deficiencies exist in 3D printing technologies. We will discuss immediate scientific challenges and potential solutions. This work was performed under the auspices of the U.S. Department of Energy by Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory under Contract DE-AC52-07NA27344. The speaker would like to thank a large number of colleagues, postdoctoral staff members, and graduate students who have contributed to this work.

State-of-The-Art Titanium Alloys by Powder Metallurgy Process
Katsuyoshi Kondoh Joining and Welding Research Institute, Osaka University
The conventional titanium (Ti) alloys are strengthened by using expensive and poisonous elements such as vanadium, niobium and molybdenum. In our previous studies, the cheap elements such as oxygen, nitrogen, carbon, silicon and hydrogen are selected to significantly improve the mechanical properties of α-Ti sintered materials by solid-solution strengthening and/or grains refinement effects. In case of iron (Fe) addition, which is one of β phase stabilizing elements, network-structured βphases containing Fe atoms were formed at α-Ti grain boundaries when the elemental mixture powder of pure Ti powder and pure Fe particles was consolidated. With increase in additional Fe contents, the volume fraction of βphase and mechanical strength proportionally increased. For example, PM Ti-6wt.%Fe alloy indicated UTS of 1246 MPa and elongation of 22.4 % at ambient temperature. These properties are much superior compared to the commercial Ti-6Al-4V (Ti64) alloys. Regarding the electrochemical corrosion behavior of Ti-Fe alloys, the corrosion current slightly decreased compared to pure Ti, however, it was not a significant difference in the industrial application. In this talk, the presentative results and performances of the novel Ti materials via powder metallurgy route will be introduced.

Ceramics Manufacturing by Spark Plasma Sintering
Takashi Gotoa,b* aNew Industry Creation Hatchery Center, Tohoku University, Sendai 980-8579, Japan
bState Key Laboratory of Advanced Technology for Materials Synthesis and Processing, Wuhan University of Technology, Wuhan 40070, China
*[email protected] Keywords: Spark Plasma Sintering, Ultra high temperature ceramics, Transparent Ceramics, Diamond
Spark plasma sintering (SPS) or electric current assisted sintering (ECAS) is versatile technique to consolidate ceramic materials. In SPS, electrical current directly passes through specimens if conductive, causing a high heating rate commonly 100°C/min, which is beneficial for densification. We have been developing novel ceramic materials by using SPS. The characteristics of SPS are capable to sinter hardly-sinterable ceramics, to sinter perfectly in a short time, and to sinter materials massively for industrial application. Several research outcomes are presented.
SiC, ZrB, TiC, TiB2 so-called ultra-high-temperature ceramics (UHTCs) are difficult to sinter by conventional sintering technique, while SPS can fabricate these monolithic materials and their composites can be consolidated. We have fabricated UHTCs such as SiC-ZrB2, TiN-TiB2, SiC-SiO2 composites by SPS. SPS can develop high performance high-temperature structural ceramics.
SPS is also advantageous to fabricate transparent ceramics. Transparent ceramics are a kind of perfect ceramics having density more than 99 %, and residual pores should be thoroughly eliminated. Although transparent ceramics can be synthesized by hot-pressing (HP) or hot isostatic pressing (HIP), it takes a long time and high temperature. SPS can make transparent ceramics in a short time, without significant grain growth, resulting in mechanically strong and
