“With the products from Hahnemühle FineArt I have access to papers that stand out due to their high quality and variety. Whether water-colour papers, acrylic painting grounds or etching papers – they all guarantee the best transformation of my ideas and projects into expressive artistic works that my customers and clients can enjoy as durable, valuable works of art.”

Cordula Kerlikowski, Artist

“I love drawing because I can record my observations on paper spontane-ously, rather like a diary entry. The sensitive but at the same time bold lines reflect the personal signature of an artist. I value Hahnemühle papers for their vivid texture that can be felt whilst drawing. They reflect the puristical stroke in all its nuances. The different white tones lend greater contrast to the strokes and give the work greater durability due to the outstanding pigment adhesion.”

Traditional FineArtArtists set the highest standards for the properties and pureness of papers and boards – the basis of their work. Hahnemühle has been fulfilling these requirements with its products for over 420 years. Through its enormous sensitivity to artistic demands and creative needs, over the centuries Hahnemühle has developed a comprehensive range of papers for professional artists and hobby painters and successfully markets it worldwide. For generations Hahnemühle paper has retained its uniqueness!

Manufacturer of High-Quality Artist Paper

There are some things which fortunately never change. One of them is the desire to create, with one‘s own hands, unique works of art; the desire for creative development without excessive technical preparations – using simple chalk, charcoal or brush. Hahnemühle makes unique papers for unique works of art. Since 1584 we have been producing paper of unparalleled quality for artistic and graphic use. The attachment to tradition and drawing on the papermaking art has made Hahnemühle one of the leading European paper producers. That is why in our production we employ traditional and proven technologies, using the Fourdrinier and cylinder mould machines. The distinguishing feature of Hahnemühle is the ability to combine tradition with modern technologies. This way, paper is produced according to old recipes, passed from generation to generation, and it continues to meet the highest demands of present-day standards. The papers and boards of Hahnemühle Traditional FineArt are characterized by supreme quality, are resistant to ageing, can be used for numerous applications, and are simply beautiful!

Mould-made Watercolour Papers and BoardsThe watercolour paper made by Hahnemühle is a real vat paper, produced on a cylinder mould machine, which gives it the characteristic deckle edge. The use of various types of natural felt gives this paper a unique surface structure. Hahnemühle mould-made papers and boards are internally sized but also available as surface sized qualities. Many artists are enchanted by our paper. The papers allow for optimum colour reproduction, have a resistant surface and withstand repeated erasures. These features make them suitable not only for watercolours, but also for other wet-painting techniques, such as gouache, tempera, opaque colours and ink as well as for drawing with charcoal, pencil and crayons. These paper qualities are acid free and extremely age resistant.

Akademie Watercolour Papers and BoardsThe Hahnemühle Akademie watercolour papers and boards are produced on a Fourdrinier machine. In this case too, natural felt is used to obtain various surface structures. Hahnemühle FineArt offers watercolour paper to suit all requirements – matt and rough - available in weights from 150 gsm to 500 gsm. These internally sized papers and boards are really “multi-talented”: they are equally suitable for watercolours, gouache, tempera, pastel, charcoal, pencil and crayons. These paper qualities are acid free and extremely age resistant.

Oil and Acrylic Painting BoardsNothing is better for presenting oil and acrylic paints than these boards, which are available both in sheets and blocks. The different qualities have a canvas-like structure and prevent bleeding. The paint is not absorbed completely, it can be mixed, and no oil patches develop on the paper.

The French company, Lana, has been producing prestigious papers since 1590 and offers artistic and graphic papers. The compact Lana range for classical painting techniques through to innovative, new printing applications enhances the Hahnemühle portfolio. There are 100% rag papers for watercolour painting available in matte, rough and smooth up to a

grammage of 640 g /m2. The range of coloured papers for all dry painting techniques is very comprehensive – artists can choose from up to 30 different coloured papers. Lana papers are available in all popular pad and sheet sizes and as rolls.

Under the name Moulin du Coq Hahnemühle has been offering a small range of papers for the past decade. A dedicated subsidiary sells premium papers from the broad range of Hahnemühle products tailored to French tastes. These are papers produced exclusively at Hahnemühle for water-colour, sketching and oil techniques. The range also includes premium genuine mould-made papers made from 100% rag with matte and rough surfaces. The Moulin du Coq range is available in France in all the popular pad and sheet sizes.

Japico is the name under which Hahnemühle sells its high-quality papers made from the fi nest rag and cellulose fi bres and pure spring water for selected specialist outlets. The small, well-structured range is only available in pads and comprises papers for watercolour, sketches, pastel and oil and acrylic painting techni-ques and one special “niche” product: a pad for linocut and batik applications.

Hahnemühle is one of only a handful of companies worldwide that can look back with pride over more than 400 years of tradition. Over the past few years the oldest German art paper mill has successfully united further brands under the Hahnemühle roof.
