    Meet Preview:

If the Penn State Relays were meant just to be a rust buster, then what

kind of fireworks should we expect this weekend as the Retrievers head to the Big

Apple for the New York City Gotham Cup at the Armory.

Sophomore Mercedes Jackson looks to lead the way after winning the 60

meters and 200 meters last weekend, with the 60 meters shattering her old school

record with a 7.42. With the magic number around 7.35 to qualify for the NCAA

championships, her march to qualification in reality begins with this meet. Denny

Long will look to put a stronger hold on the Conference leaderboards in the 60

meter and 200 meter dashes after taking the Conference lead last weekend.

Senior Trae Proctor continues to keep knocking on the door of being the

first Retriever to go under eight seconds in the 60 meter hurdles, most recently

clocking an 8.00 last weekend to tie the school record.

Look to the long sprints/mid-distance for the next set of IC4A and ECAC

qualifiers. The trio of Paulette Fogle, Deborah Adelola, and Kirsten Jones will debut

this season in the 500 meters while Sarah Daly, Cody Mezebish, and Andrew Smith

will all flirt with post season qualifying times in the 800 meters.

After a 3:51 1500 meter run last spring, junior Jake Albino could also

garner an IC4A qualification in the mile in his first time in the event this season.

Strong season debuts in the 3,000 meters last weekend suggest that Angel Bucci

(3000m) and Julie Gessler (5000m) could move up the All Time UMBC lists. The throws will continue to be anchored by a crew of postseason qualifiers

in multi-time Conference champ Amanda Deller and IC4A qualifier Yao Adantor.

Making his season debut will be Thor Serafenas

Shioma Obemeata will be looking to go over 48 feet in the triple after an

IC4A qualifying 47-7 jump last weekend, while Mo Drammeh will look for his third

consecutive IC4A qualifying indoor season after missing by 4cm last weekend.

Last Meet Highlights: Penn State Relays Mercedes Jackson wins the 60m Dash (school record 7.42) and the 200m dash

A multi-time state champion in Maryland, she has been having a quiet but very

successful freshman campaign. In her first meet she recorded a 7.90 in the 60 meter

dash to move up to #7 All Time in school history. She followed that up at the Penn State

Relays with a 25.70 in the 200 meter dash. Currently DNique has the fifth fastest time in

the 60m dash and the second fastest time in the 200m dash in the early season AmericaEast Conference Rankings.

    Jen Nelson:

Like DNique, Jen Nelson has started off her first season with the Retrievers with under

the radar, but solid performances. Currently she sits ninth in the Conference in the shot

put, but has picked up the weight throw quickly, having moved up to number sixth in th

Conference with the sixth farthest throw in school history (48 8). As a senior she
