TEXT F
This study investigated the student’s anxiety in speaking. They are the students of class eight
of MTsN jatibarang Indramayu. The primary purposes of the study were focused on two aspects,
those are: (1) to describe the student’s speaking anxiety before giving treatment; and (2) to know the
student’s opinion after giving treatment, in this case picture treatment.
Participants (N= 40) were purposively assigned to search in one shoot case study (parts of
experimental study). The students received the picture in their learning process. This is to know
whether those picture implementation really effective to reduce the student’s speaking anxiety.
On class VIII A of the MtsN Jatibarang, the numbers of 40 students tried as participants that
were given the pre-questionnaire as first trial. It is to measure the student’s rate of speaking anxiety.
The materials of English in picture technique were given as treatment. Finally the post-
questionnaire gave the final answer how can the picture be able to reduce the student anxiety.
Analyses of procedure statistic were utilized to describe the data sharply. In this study,
descriptive statistics was used to know the result data processing. This study used an Experimental
design which aims to identify and investigate a single factor, in this case, anxiety problem. In
addition, SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) 11.0 had been used as data processor. It
was used to test specific hypotheses about speaking anxiety connected with picture. In processing
the data, the first is normality data distribution. SPSS 11.0 had processed the data with p-value .124
for pre-questionnaire, and .137 for post-questionnaire. Both data was compared with the Cronbach
coefficient .05, and the data was also shown by Q-Q plot as the normal distribution. Meanwhile,
frequencies of the pre and post questionnaire were shown in every item of the questions. After the
data normal, the means of pre and post was compared with the difference test (t-test), in this case t-
paired. Kolmogorov –Smirnov was tried as the hypothetical test statistically, and .375 is the result of
the t-paired means of pre and post questionnaire, and it was compared with the Cronbach alpha
coefficient .05, and finally, Kolmogorov-Smirnov was more than Cronbach Coefficient (.375 >.05).
Based on the p-value (sg.). 375 (Kolmogorov-Smirnov) is enough if the picture as technique is
able to reduce the students in speaking anxiety in .05 degrees (Cronbach alpha). Speaking anxiety is
a learning trait that is conditioned through reinforcement. If a child is rewarded in the class
environment with anxieties or even punished when communicating, the probable result is triggering
the anxiety. The study of speaking anxiety, therefore, reflects an interest of the whole-students and
not just in the mastery of speaking skill, but also to maintain the development of communicative
competence as a goal. The study of the speaking anxiety on test anxiety is probably hoped that the
teacher would be better to consider what the most suitable techniques they use in their teaching-
learning process.
