• NASASP Annual Meeting

March 21 - 26, 2010 Sacramento, CA 95815

NASASP SEEKS TO BRING PROPERTY BACK FROM IRAQ The National Association of State Agencies for Surplus Property (NASASP), in coordination with members of the United States House of Representatives, the Department of Defense, and the General Services Administration, are working hard to make equipment used in Iraq available to the Federal Surplus Property Programs. NASASP is working to ensure that, as American forces draw down in Iraq, the army equipment is being transferred to the surplus property program. NASASP believes that transferring the property from one branch of government to other local and state government entities makes the most fiscal sense. We will keep you posted in future newsletters on any updates.

What’s New With Federal Surplus?

There have been some exciting changes afoot within the Texas Federal Surplus Property Pro-gram: an expanded Central Texas warehouse, a new inventory link on the website, and changes to the Fort Worth warehouse.

New Inventory Link on FSP website

The Federal Surplus property program has incorporated some improvements to its inventory system. Included in those up-grades is a new inventory link on the

agency’s website.

You will access the inventory from the same location on the website, but the inventory

listing will look a little different.

Tips for searching: - You must click on the particular property you want to view and scroll down to the bottom of the page to see the pictures.

- Click on the particular property that you are interested in to see the location of the

property.

Newly-Promoted Manager and Assistant Manager at the Fort Worth Warehouse

Congratulations to Phil Phillips for being promoted to the new Manager at the Federal Surplus Property (FSP) ware-

house in Fort Worth, Texas. He is taking over for Greg Conn, who has moved to Austin to run the expanded Central Texas warehouse and to become the Manager over the FSP program. Phil has been with the FSP program for close to seven years and brings great knowledge and experience to

his new position.

Robert Lopez was recently promoted to Assistant Manager of the Fort Worth Federal Surplus Property warehouse. Lo-pez brings seven years to the position and we are very lucky

to have him in this role.

Please join us in congratulating the two on their promotions!

Greg Conn converted a 20-foot expandable container into his new office at the Central Texas warehouse in Austin. Come visit us!

Texas Donee Spotlights

Del Mar College is located in Corpus Christi, Texas and has a mission to provide educational opportunities for students to achieve their dreams. Recently, the College received a piece of equipment that will continue to help them with their mission. The college was donated a Piper Aztec plane that is used within the Aviation Maintenance Program at Del Mar College. The aircraft has an integral role and position in the education of fu-ture technicians in the aviation program.

The Texas Federal Surplus Property Program called Del Mar College about a Piper Aztec 250 that was up for disposition through the General Services Administration; the college ap-plied and the Aviation Maintenance Technician Program at Del Mar College obtained the aircraft this year for the cost of fees.

The Piper Aztec is used in virtually every one of the 26 aviation maintenance technician training courses approved by the Fed-eral Aviation Administration. The students use the aircraft regularly in the following courses:

Weight & Balance - determining empty weight & CG com-putations

Federal Aviation Regulations - determine the accuracy of the type certificate data sheet and equipment list

Ground Operations - towing, taxing and engine run-up Basic Electricity – battery operations, basic circuit trouble-

shooting Instrument, Communications, & Navigation – removal,

installation, & troubleshooting Powerplant Electrical Systems – ignition magneto timing,

generator/starter maintenance

Joseph Dudek, the Aviation Maintenance Program Coordinator is very grateful for the plane, “The Texas Federal Surplus Prop-erty Program is one of the best instruments for educational in-stitutions to reclaim equipment and proved an outlet to reclaim taxpayer dollars. I applaud the efforts of everyone involved in the program and wish that it could encompass a greater number of assets disposed by the federal government.”

Greg Conn, Stuart Hamm, and Alex Gutierrez presented at the Texas Facilities Commission’s October commission meeting in Austin, Texas. Staff members showed a video documenting past FSP donations and told stories about the success of the program. Needless to say, the

seven-member Commission was impressed with the amount of assistance the FSP program provides communities

around Texas.
