William L. Mayo founded East
Texas Normal College to provide
Northeast Texas residents with

The university has since evolved
from “Old ET” to join The Texas
A&M University System, but Mayo’s
creed of “ceaseless industry,
fearless investigation, unfettered
thought, and unselfish service to
others” still lives on in the lives
of A&M-Commerce students
and alumni.

HONORS COLLEGEThe Honors College provides a highly personalized and challenging college experience that also includes a premier scholarship package that covers tuition, fees, housing, a partial meal plan, and money for textbooks for a select group of high-achieving freshman students. The typical Honors College student has the following characteristics:
UNIVERSITY COLLEGEThe University College serves all first-time students to the university. Success Coaches are provided to each student. University College targets first-time, full-time freshman students who reside on our campus. Students are grouped with other students who share similar interests, and activities are planned to enhance the campus experience, including, but not limited to, lectures from experts and leadership and service learning opportunities.
REGENTS THE FIRST YEAR LEADERSHIP CLASS
Each year, the Regent’s Scholars Program (RSP) provides up to thirty outstanding freshmen a four-year scholarship towards tuition and fees. The program allows students to pursue a bachelor’s degree in their chosen field while developing their awareness of international issues and cultural contrasts. In addition, RSP provides students with leadership training and experience that will allow them to have a positive impact upon the lives of others on campus, and in their future profession.
The First Year Leadership Class (FLC) Program equips students with the personal leadership skills and education necessary to lead their class through the upcoming four years. FLC focuses on developing leaders to take the initiative to better one’s surroundings and serve as an agent of positive change on campus and beyond. Students enjoy a blend of fun, hands-on activities and eye-opening discussions. This is a competitive scholarship opportunity for our top freshman student leaders.
