Setting the Scene• Texas A&M guns for its first road victory on the season Saturday in Starkville as they face Mississippi State after sweeping a pair of regular season meetings from the Bulldogs last season.

• The Aggies are on a four-game winning streak in the series with Mississippi State ... However, the series has been highly competitive with A&M's last three victories coming by an average of just two points.

Trends & Superlatives• In just his third career start on Wednesday vs. LSU, sophomore guard Chris Collins set career highs in points (12), assists (8), rebounds (4) and 3-point field goals (2) … Collins' eight assists were the second most by an Aggie this season, trailing only DJ Hogg's nine against A&M-Corpus Christi (12/5/16).

• Junior Tonny Trocha-Morelos pitched in 14 points, six rebounds, three blocks, two steals and an assist in 25 minutes of court time vs. LSU ... The trio of blocks set a career-high for the Cartagena, Columbia, native.

• Sophomore DJ Hogg continues to rank among the SEC's top sharpshooters, checking in at fourth in the league shooting 41.6 percent from long range while making 2.5 3-point baskets per contest, third in the SEC.

Noting Mississippi State• The Bulldogs are coming off back-to-back road wins at Arkansas and LSU and hold a 2-1 record in confer-ence play with a 11-4 record overall ... In their first conference home game, they fell to Alabama 58-68.

• Preseason All-SEC first team selection Quinndary Weatherspoon leads the Mississippi State offense by averaging 18.2 point per contest ... The sophomore guard hit 6-of-7 shots from long range in the Bulldogs' last outing against Arkansas ... On the season, Weatherspoon is shooting 46.0 percent from 3-point range.

• Senior I.J. Ready, one of the just two upperclassman on the roster, is second in the SEC in assists per game at 5.1 ... The Rixey, Ark., native leads the Bulldogs in minutes, assists and steals.

Williams Reviving Aggies' Block Party Billed as one of the SEC's most athletic rookies, Robert Williams has wasted little time making his presence felt on the court for the Maroon & White and one of his biggest statistical impacts has come in the blocked shots column.

• As a team last season, the Aggies Collected 133 blocks in 37 games for an average of 3.59 blocks per game ... This season in 15 games, A&M has 92 blocks for an average of 6.1 per game.

• Williams has 39 blocks in 15 games (2.6 per game) to rank eighth nationally in block percentage [13.2] on kenpom.com (through Jan. 4 games). The metric is the percentage of opponents’ two-point shots that are blocked by the player while he is on the court.

• The rookie from Vivan, La., notched five swats against Northwestern St. during his first collegiate game to become the first Aggie to notch five blocks in a game since Keith Davis vs. Sam Houston St. on Dec. 7, 2011.

• Williams also collected a four swats against LSU on Jan. 11 to give him a blocked shot in 15 straight games, the longest streak by an Aggie since Bryan Davis had a 17-game block streak from Nov. 29, 2009 to Feb. 3, 2010.

Career Stats - Texas A&M vs. MSU Five Aggies have faced off vs. the Bulldogs during their collegiate career, led by Tavario Miller who has played five games against MSU.

A&M Takes Aim at Another 20-Win Sesaon; Would be 10th in 13 Years A 79-77 overtime victory over Kentucky on Feb. 20 of last season stood out as the team's 20th win of the season. The Aggies would go on to win a school-record 28 victories on their run to the Sweet 16.

The 20-win season was the 15th in program history and the second in a row for Billy Kennedy's Aggies. Texas A&M has won 20 or more games in nine of the last 12 seasons.

Davis Named SEC Player of the Week (Dec. 12) For the first time during his already impressive career Texas A&M center Tyler Davis was named SEC Player of the Week on Dec. 12

A 6-foot-10, 270-pound, Davis sophomore averaging 18 points and eight rebounds while shooting 73.1 percent from the field in wins over A&M-Corpus Christi, Denver and South Carolina State.

Davis scored a career-high 25 points during a victory over A&M-Corpus Christi, converting 9-of-12 field goal attempts and 7-of-9 chances at the free throw line. The Aggie big man hit the 20-point plateau for the second time during the week and his career with 22 points during the win over South Carolina State as he converted 8-of-9 shots from the field and notched his third consecutive game with eight boards.

Williams Named SEC Freshman of the Week (Nov. 28) After making a splash on the national scene with an impressive three-game showing at the Wooden Legacy, Texas A&M's Robert Williams was named SEC Men's Basketball Freshman of the Week on Nov. 28.

The 6-foot-9, 237-pound forward from Vivan, La., averaged 12 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.7 blocks while leading the Aggies to victories over CSUN and Virginia Tech before a near upset of No. 14 UCLA during the Wooden Legacy title game. Williams shot an impressive 56 percent from the field during the tournament as well as 88.9 percent from the free throw line while averaging 19.7 minutes on the court.

Additionally, Williams led the entire tournament field with eight blocked shots while adding five assists and four steals. He hit double-digit scoring during all three games in Southern California and collected his first career double-double by setting career highs in both points (13) and rebounds (10) in the Aggies' come-from-behind victory over the Hokies during the Wooden semifinals.

Come-From-Behind Victory Highlights Aggies' Run at Wooden Legacy During their runner-up showing at the 2016 Wooden Legacy the Aggies received national praise for an impressive come-from-behind effort over a solid Virginia Tech squad.

Texas A&M trailed by 17 during the second half (53-36) before it outscored the Hokies 32-12 during the game's final 14:04 to complete the comeback, which stands out as the biggest come-from-behind win of the Billy Kennedy era at A&M.

Against the Hokies, the Aggies dominated the paint during, owning a 44-18 edge for points in the paint and a 49-30 advantage in the rebounding column.

Kennedy Hits 100 Wins at A&M Aggie head coach Billy Kennedy has enjoyed successful coaching stops at Centenary (1997-99), Southeast-ern Louisiana (1999-05), Murray State (2006-11) and now Texas A&M (2011-).

The sixth-year Aggie coach eclipsed another coaching milestone as the season-opening win over Northwestern State gave him 100 victories for his tenure at Texas A&M. Only Shelby Metcalf, who guided the Aggies to 438 wins from 1963 to 1990, has claimed more victories while guiding the Texas A&M men's basketball program than Kennedy.

On Jan. 30 of last season, when the Aggies earned a 72-62 victory over No. 14 Iowa State, Kennedy hit another career milestone as he captured his 300th victory as a collegiate head coach.

Davis Named Preseason First Team All-SEC & to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award Watch List After playing a prominent role in the Aggies' success as a freshman a year ago and standing out as one of the SEC's top big men, sophomore center Tyler Davis was honored as a First Team Preseason All-SEC selection as well as garnering as spot on the watch list for the 2017 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Award.

The Plano, Texas, native averaged 11.3 points and 6.2 rebounds per contest while shooting 65.5 percent from the floor and pacing the team with 41 blocked shots. Along with teammate DJ Hogg, Davis garnered SEC All-Freshman honors at the conclusion of the season.

By mid-February, the watch list of 20 players for the 2017 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Award will be narrowed down to just 10. In March, five finalists will be presented to Mr. Abdul-Jabbar and the Hall of Fame's selection committee. The winner of the 2017 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award will be presented at the ESPN College Basketball Awards Show presented by Wendy's in Los Angeles, Calif., on Friday, April 7, 2017.

Reed Arena Success• The Aggies are 7-2 this season on their home court last year (17-1 last year) and are now 232-79 (.746) all-time in 18 seasons at Reed Arena ... the Aggies were 41-41 in the first six years at Reed and are 191-38 since.

• In the last three seasons, Texas A&M is 55-10 (.846) on its home floor.

• A&M has won 101 of its last 119 home games against unranked opponents (39 of last 52 in league play).

Texas A&M Germany-Bound for 2017 State Farm Armed Forces Classic In a move that honors Texas A&M University's strong traditions and connection with the United States military, the Aggie men's basketball team has been selected to take part in the 2017 State Farm Armed Forces Classic, facing West Virginia on Nov. 10, 2017, at Ramstein Air Base in Germany.

The Armed Forces Classic – a series of Division I men's college basketball games that are televised from United States military bases around Veteran's Day as a morale event for ser-vice members – is scheduled to continue for the foreseeable future. The Armed Forces Classic is owned and operated by ESPN Events, a division of ESPN.

Billy Kennedy: Program Builder Even before taking over the helm of the Texas A&M men's basketball program prior to the 2011-12 cam-paign, Billy Kennedy had the reputation of a program builder. Following his first head coaching job at Cen-tenary, Kennedy assumed the job at his alma mater Southeastern Louisiana and in years four and five of his tenure helped the Lions capture back-to-back Southland Conference Championships and make an appearance in the 2005 NCAA Tournament.

At Murray State, Kennedy and the Racers also won back-to-back league titles in seasons four and five of his tenure. His team made a trip to the 2010 NCAA Tournament where they downed fourth-seeded Vanderbilt.

Kennedy's impressive career has left him with a spot on an elite list of just 26 active NCAA Division-I coaches to lead three different programs to the NCAA Tournament.

The Departed: Replacing Four Senior Starters Last season was one for the Aggie basketball record books and much of the firepower and leadership that powered the team came from four outstanding senior starters who no longer don the Maroon & White.

Three of the departed senior starters -- Jalen Jones, Alex Caruso and Danuel House -- garnered All-SEC acco-lades, with Jones earning first team distinction and House being selected an honorable mention All-American by the Associated Press. Caruso, meanwhile, stands out as A&M’s all-time leader in assists (649) and steals (276) and ended his career as the only player in SEC history to score 1,000 points with at least 500 rebounds, 600 assists and 250 steals.

For his part, Anthony Collins made an impression during his lone season in Aggieland after transferring from South Florida as he made all 37 starts at the point guard spot while dishing out 155 assists and collect-ing 38 steals. He ranked 24th nationally with a 2.92 assist-to-turnover ratio.

Texas A&M Announces Nationally-Ranked Signing Class The Texas A&M men’s basketball program continues to draw some of the top talent from the Lone Star State to Aggieland as head coach Billy Kennedy has announced the signing of four outstanding student-athletes to National Letters of Intent.

He also averaged 7.2 rebounds, 3.5 as-sists and 2.5 steals per game while shooting 49 percent from the field last season.
