Her Majesty the Queen hasreigned longer than any of her
predecessors excepting her Great GreatGrandmother Victoria. Most of us havenever known any other monarch thanQueen Elizabeth. Her life, and the livesof her family, are inextricably linkedwith the lives of all her subjects, notjust in the United Kingdom, but alsothroughout the Commonwealth andespecially the 16 countries where sheremains the Head of State.
Tewkesbury was indeed especially fortunate to have a visit from her in1971 to distribute the Maundy Money from the Abbey. Later in 2006, HisRoyal Highness Prince Philip visited the Sir Raymond Priestley exhibitionin the Town Museum. His Royal Highness Prince Charles is a frequentvisitor to the Abbey. The townsfolkmaintain a long and cherished relation-ship to the Royal family. This wasbeautifully illustrated when our TownCrier proclaimed the anniversary of theQueen’s accession from the Abbey toweron February 6th 2012.
Over the last 60 years our country haschanged dramatically, as has Tewkesbury.Yet what has not changed is the deep-rooted profound sense of loyalty andaffection we all have for this remarkablelady. This will be amply displayed duringthe Town’s Jubilee celebrations.
