PLANT DETAILS:
Turbine and Generator Train is supported on 6 No of bearings,thurst bearing at HP rear.
Oil pumps for lubrication consisting of 2 Nos Aux. Oil pumps, oneNo. of DC EOP and one number Main oil pump with connectedpipe lines.
Jacking oil pumps two AC driven one DC driven with connectedpipe lines.
Oil tank to hold the required quantity of oil.
Auxiliary oil pumps, Jacking oil pumps and oil vapour exhaustfans 2 nos are mounted on the top of oil tank.
Level gauge and probes are installed to indicate and give alarmwhenever the level variation is there from low to high.
One number duplex filter is there in the oil line to thrust bearing toprevent the solid partides more than 37 mic. entering into thethrust bearing.
One number bucket filter is installed inside the oil tank.
Throttles are there to regulate the oil flow into the bearings andone throttle at discharge of pumps to adjust the oil pressure of luboil header.

Two numbers of coolers are there to maintain the lub oiltemperature along with temperature control valve.
One number oil turbine is mounted on the IP rear coupling to runthe shat system at low speed during startup and shutdown ofturbine. Provision for hand baring is also available.
One number pressure relief valve in the Jop line.
One number NRV in Jop line going to each bearing.

2.0 OBJECTIVE:
To rotate the turbine rotor system continuously on low speedduring start up and shutdown of the machine. This is to overcome the break away torque during startup and enable uniformcooling of the rotor system during shutdown to prevent distortionof rotor.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS:
Availability of first Aid kit.
Group carryingout the operation shall be aware of the procudure.

EMERGENCY PROCEDURE:
The operating personnel shall be aware of steps to be takenduring power supply failure and oil pumps tripping.
They shall also be aware of the procedure to be followed in caseof accident involving injury to personnel.
They shall intimate the abnormal condition of the equipments to
shift incharge.

STATE OF THE PLANT:
Any one of AOPs is in service and the other is kept on standby.
DC emergency oil pump is on auto mode.
Any one of JOPs is in service and the other is kept on standby.
DC Jop is kept on auto mode.
Oil temperature controller is put on auto.
Coolers are charged with cooling water.
All instrumentations are kept in service.
Machine is ready for bearing gear operation.
Open and close limit switches of gate valve gearing is set and theoperation of valve is checked.
Throttles in the lub oil line to individual bearing are set for itsrequired flow. Turbovisory instruments are calibrated & ready forbarring operation.

METHOD:
Set the throttle for the oil system to maintain the lub oil headerpressure to the required valve.
Set the throttles in the lub oil lines to individual bearings tomaintain the required flow to the bearings. Ensure the oil flowthrough view glass in the return line.
SGC of oil system is commissioned.
SLC of pumps is commissioned and the auto change over of oilpumps is established.
Check the functioning of oil temperature controller
Adjust the pressure control valve in the Jop discharge line tomaintain the required header pressure.
Check the SLC operation of Jack oil pumps.
Stop the Jack oil pump and mount dial gauges on the shaftnearer to the bearings. This is to measure the lift of the shaft withJob.
Start one Jop and notedown the lift of the shaft at each bearing. Ifthe lift is zero at any one of bearings adjust the isolating valve inthe Jop lines to bearings to alter the lift oil pressure and initiatethe lift. The lift should be at least 0.02 mm min, & 0.1 mm mas.Mum.
Do hand barring and it should rotate freely. If it is found difficult,
check the lift again at all the bearings and improve the same if itis zero at any of bearings.

Hookup the interlock and protection for barring gear and checkthe same.
Put the machine on baring gear first by opening the gate valvegearing and then starting the Jop.
The speed of the shaft system shall increase and attain thespecified speed.
Check for any rubbing of seals and sound in the bearings bymeans of hearing rod. If no sound is heared, allow it to run forsome time.
Stop the bearing gear by closing the gate valve gearing and notedown the coasting down time.
Again open the gate valve gearing and run the barring gear for 8hrs to check its performance.
Notedown the following readings every hour.
1. Lub oil header pressure2. Lub oil temperature3. Thrust position.4. Bearing and shaft vibration5. Speed6. Bearing babbit temperature.7. Jop header pressure and the same at individual bearing.8. Return oil temperature.

9.0 COMPLETION CRITERIA:
If the above parameters for 8 hrs. barring is found normal, thetrial run of barring gear operation is successful.
