Maintaining Security

• Under no circumstances may a school open the shrink-wrapped packages and affix the student identification labels prior to the day that the test books will be administered.

• Inventory materials without opening the shrink-wrap.

Communication Devices

You cannot have any communications device, including a cell phone, with you during this test or during any breaks (such as a restroom visit). Such devices include, but are not limited to:

• Cell phones

• Blackberry devices and other PDAs

• iPods and MP3 players

• iPads, tablets, and other eReaders

• Laptops, notebooks, or any other personal computing devices

• Camera or other photographic equipment

• Headphones, headsets, or in-ear headphones such as earbuds

• Any other device capable of recording audio, photographic or video content, or capable of viewing or playing back such content

Altering Student Responses

• No one, under any circumstances, including the student, may alter the student’s responses on the test once the student has handed in his or her test materials.

• Teachers and administrators who engage in inappropriate conduct with respect to administering and scoring State assessments may be subject to disciplinary actions in accordance with Sections 3020 and 3020-a of Education Law or to action against their certification pursuant to Part 83 of the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education.

Tools for the Math Test

2013 Grades 6–8 Common Core Mathematics Tests—Specifications for Calculators

Book 1: The use of a calculator or mathematics tables is not allowed.

Book 2 and Book 3: For Grade 6, the use of a four-function calculator with a square root key or a scientific calculator is required. For Grades 7 and 8, the use of a scientific calculator is required. Graphing calculators are not permitted.

The use of mathematics tables is permitted for Book 2 and Book 3 only if specified in a student’s IEP or 504 Plan.

Tools for the Math Test

• When students enter the testing room, clear, reset, or disable the memory of any calculator with programming capability. If the memory of a student’s calculator is password-protected and cannot be cleared, the calculator must not be used. Students may not use calculators that are capable of symbol manipulation or that can communicate with other calculators through infrared sensors, nor may students use operating manuals, instruction or formula cards, or other information concerning the operation of calculators during the tests.

Please note: All Scorers are expected to be present for scoring from 8:15 am – 3:30 pm or until all papers are scored. If you are unavailable for any part of the day, please let your administrator know so they can send an alternate scorer. If you do not arrive before 8:15 and training has begun, you will be sent back to your district.

Materials for Scoring

• You will have to deliver the tests to the Clarion in Dunkirk this year. They must be there by 9 AM (earliest 7:30 AM) at least the day before they are scheduled to be scored because of randomization.

• You can deliver all grades at once.  

• ELA 3 & ELA 6 – Due Monday 3/22– Due Monday 3/22 ELA 7 & ELA 8 – Due Wednesday 3/24

Books Sent to Scoring

• ELA- Books 3 and 4 (Place the answer sheet and Book 3 inside Book 4. BOOKLET 4 SHOULD BE THE OUTER TEST BOOKLET)

• Math- Book 3

• ELA has only 40 tests to a box and MATH has 50.

• ALL answer sheets must be sent to regional scoring.

• We will send them all to the WNYRIC from scoring

• Bubble in accommodations on the answer sheets.

• Do NOT write on accommodations on the test booklets

Absent or Not Tested• The district will bubble in the appropriate code.

• Arrange answer sheets that will not be scored alphabetically with a separate roster sheet.

• Test booklets for those students should not be sent.

Returning Booklets to Districts

• Districts must either:1. Pick up the test booklets at the Clarion where they will be asked to sign off on receipt as in the past, OR

•2. They may authorize us, in writing, to return via the BOCES courier.
