Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Month:
All of October, 2015 we focused organisation-wide on CSR – a whole month of continuous and sustained CSR and volunteering activity, with the slogan ‘Volunteering Is Fun, Fulfilling, and For Everyone’. The month saw 22 volunteering events completed & over 3600 volunteering hours clocked. Further, over 950 colleagues pledged their eyes over just 2 days in an eye-pledging drive, and a fun Carnival & a Talent Show were organised by colleagues to raise funds.Tesco Bengaluru has launched a unique Individual Social Responsibility (ISR) programme that seeks to support community causes colleagues are passionate about, over and above our CSR themes.
We believe that what we stand for and invest in as an organisation can pave the way for a sustainable business for the future – one that is positive for customers, stakeholders, as well as the community we are embedded in.
A Green CampusWe are serious about minimising our carbon footprint and have undertaken several initiatives on campus to help this, including rain water harvesting, bio-composting, and using solar energy.
Payroll Giving
Since 2011, our colleagues have been making donations from their salary to support NGOs of their choice and have contributed overINR 94 lakhs to Give India’s ‘Give As You Earn’ programme.
We regularly engage with our partner NGOs such as BOSCO, Association for People with Disability (APD), Say Trees, Akshaya Patra, and Akshara Foundation conducting activities such as skill-building workshops, afforestation drives, lake cleaning, facilitating learning, supporting mid-day meals, and more.
Partner NGOs
We are running a programme that supports education and infrastructure at local government schools in Bangalore. Our colleagues volunteer their time and effort to coach students in our adopted government schools in Computers and English language skills.
‘Adopt A School’ Project
Environment-focusedInitiatives:
Aligned to the Government of India’s Swachh Bharat initiative and in partnership with Whitefield Export Promotion Park Industrial Association (WEPPIA) and Whitefield Rising, Tesco Bengaluru has conducted monthly cleanliness drives near our campus, with colleagues taking the lead in cleaning the neighbourhood. We have also commenced an afforestation drive to improve the green cover in surrounding areas, with colleagues planting 2000 saplings in different sites in Whitefield. Towards more sustainable cleanliness, we are also setting up dustbins and toilets in public areas in Whitefield.
