Situation The road project, along the picturesque Ternate – Nasugbu Road, approximately70 km south from the capital city of Manila, that connects to the provinces ofCavite and Batangas, was foreseen to cut travel time from Metro Manila to thebeaches of Ternate, and help spur economic activity in the area. In the pastproject area was problematic during rainy season so road engineers decided ona new and hopefully effective solution, one that would blend with nature and atthe same time withstand its harshness.
Description 2'300 m² of TECCO® SYSTEM³ were installed to ensure stability of the slope andrevegetation simultaneously. The revegetation of the slope developed quickly.On 15th July 2014 the system was put to test for the first time by a "medium"storm by Philippine standards: Typhoon Ramassun was racing head-on to thegeneral direction of Ternate with winds up to 185 km/h! Parts of Manila andneighboring provinces were without power up to a week after Ramassun’sonslaught. Inspecting the site after the typhoon was difficult, because the roadwas blocked partly by numerous slides and rockfalls. Installed solution survivedand road remained safe and undisturbed (see picture on the front page).
