Involvement…“Involvement is a state of intense, whole hearted mental activity, characterised by sustained concentration and intrinsic motivation. Highly involved children (and adults) operate at the limit of their capacities, leading to changed ways of responding and understanding leading to deep level learning.” (adapted from Laevers 1994; cited in the Early Years Learning Framework, p. 10).

“A totally involved person operates at the limits of his/her capacities, that is, within a Zone of Proximal Development… It is this state, that activates ‘deep level’ learning, regulating the way incoming stimuli are processed and understanding is gained, and creating the means to interpret new situations and act competently (or not).” (Reflect, Respect, Relate (RRR), p. 81).
