Principal’s News

Work has commenced on the installation of the new roof on F-block. The work is scheduled to take four weeks so all classes on the top floor have been re-located to other rooms around the school during this time. Further work is scheduled to commence around the school before the end of term. This Friday is White Ribbon Day and although there will not be a community march the whole school will be involved in spreading the white ribbon message through organised activities. Last week we received news that our long time Canteen Manager Sue Townsend will be retiring at the end of the year. Sue has been a tireless worker for our P&C and has established a great rapport with many staff and students throughout her years of service. We wish Sue every happiness in her retirement. Congratulations to Oliver Etty for being the winner of our canteen voucher last week.

Year 6 to 7 Transition Program

Y6-7 Orientation Day 3 This Thursday, 22nd November, is the 3rd and final Year 6 to 7 transition day and the focus will be on TAS (Technical and Applied Studies) and CAPA (Creative and Performing Arts). The activities planned for students on this day will provide them an opportunity to gain knowledge and an understanding of a range of school procedures and experiences, and develop positive relationships with Canowindra High School staff and students. Please note that as students will be participating in practical subjects they are required to wear normal school uniform with enclosed leather shoes. If you have any questions please contact the school on 63441305.

Y6-7 Family BBQ The final Year 6 to 7 transition activity, a family BBQ, will be held on Wednesday 28th November starting at

5.30pm under the COLA (next to the Jack Sherwin Memorial Hall). Families and carers of students beginning Year 7 in 2019 are encouraged to come along and meet CHS staff and other families. We look forward to seeing you there!

P&C News

Future of the Canteen

At the end of Term 4, we will be farewelling Sue Townsend our canteen manager. Sue has been our manager since 2005, and after 13 years of dedicated service she has decided to retire from the role. We would like to thank her for all her years with us and her commitment to Canowindra High School students and staff, and wish her well for the future. Currently the canteen is operated by the P&C, who employs the manager, pays all accounts and co-ordinates all the requirements associated with effectively running a small business. This model is not possible without a large commitment from the P&C. Next week, at the P&C meeting, we will be discussing the future of the canteen and the management options available. If you are interested in the future of the Canowindra High School canteen, please come to our meeting on Tuesday 27th November at 5pm in the staff common room. All welcome. PDHPE e-books Next year, Years 7 and 9 PDHPE classes will have the option of using an e-book in which they will complete their work. It will be downloaded onto their own personal laptop (BYOD) and will cost students $20 to purchase. The e-book will be used in place of regular books with sample pages from the Year 7 PDHPE e-book shown below. For those students interested in purchasing an e-book, payments can be made to the front office during the last two weeks of term or early next year.
