High School Day

Dear Parents & Community,

Driver Behaviour

Unfortunately, I once again need to write regarding some incidents of poor driver behaviour on Boundary Rd. It is a real shame, because for the most part, people seem to have taken the road safety message on board and are actively using the crossing and trying to park legally.

Today, a vehicle in the School Zone area, parked in the No Stopping Zone, blocking the exit to the laneway, facing the wrong direction down the hill. Yesterday, another parent used the No Stopping Zone to dart in and pick up their children, blocking the path of the afternoon school bus, forcing it to the wrong side of the road.

We work very hard to keep your children safe, by insisting that they cross at the school crossing and regularly discussing road safety in class and at assembly. As principal, I don’t want to continually sound negative in the newsletter regarding this issue, as so many members of our community obey the road rules and do the right thing.

I implore our community to do the right thing and place student safety above personal convenience.

remain at school to play after 3.10pm, as there is no supervision, and our sick bay is not open should it be required. Over the last fortnight, we have also had to speak with a number of students who have stayed after school, regarding appropriate behaviour.

We do appreciate that a number of parents like to have a chat in the school yard after the bell, however we ask that you do not allow your children to play handball etc. after school as these games, often attract other unsupervised students who should be heading home instead. Thank you in advance for your support with this.

Technology and our 1:1 Device program

I have received a few enquiries this term regarding our 1:1 device program and the associated levy. I wanted to take some time in this week’s newsletter to explain the importance of the program and how the levy supports each and every one of our students.

Our school receives a small number of computers (16 this year) from the Department of Education each year. These computers are deployed in classrooms, attached to interactive displays, used in the office for our office staff to undertake required administration tasks, in the school hall for presentations and in the library for research and administration purposes. Any devices purchased over and above this are required to be funded from school and community sources.

In the past year, our overall investment in technology hardware alone has been close to $100,000, with purchases of extra laptops for classrooms, replacement iPads for student use, the purchase of laptop and iPad charging stations and other associated hardware. This does not include maintenance and technology consumables, which come at significant extra cost.

This level of resourcing has been achieved through the $30 1:1 device levy that appears on each term account, as well as a significant investment from school operational funds.

When you take into account the number of computers provided to our school each year, the positive impact of the 1:1 device levy which provides each student access to a personal device, cannot be underestimated. I encourage parents to take the time to talk with their children about how they use their devices in class each day. I know you will be impressed.

I would like to thank everyone in our community for your ongoing support of our school technology program and I look forward to sharing more of the successes of this program leading into 2020.

Should you have any questions about this program, please do not hesitate to contact me directly.

CANTEEN NEWS

This week’s Meal of the Week is a delicious nut-free Pesto Pasta Salad, accompanied with your choice of either chicken or vegetable. Each combination is available in a gluten-free version, and the pesto is proudly made with produce from the school vegetable garden. It doesn’t get much fresher than that! A big thank you to our wonderful green thumbs who make this possible. Also a friendly reminder to parents of Senior Band students that they will be attending an all-day rehearsal at the Concourse in Chatswood and will not require a lunch order tomorrow.

Thought about becoming more involved with the school? Volunteering at the canteen is a great way to meet new people, catch up with friends, and support your school community. If you would like to join the canteen team, just email [email protected]. We would love to hear from you.
