PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Bunnings P&C BBQ

Thank you to the generous volunteers who helped with

the Bunnings BBQ on Saturday and raised $603.

We send our thanks to Helen, Greg, Hope, Melanie,

Stephanie, Juanita, Nancy and Joanne who all spent some

of their day cooking and serving in an effort to raise funds

to assist the school.

Your efforts and support are much appreciated.

Enrolments 2020

Parents are requested to please notify the Principal if you

plan to be leaving the area in 2020 or if you have not

enrolled your child for Kindergarten.

The school is happy to discuss with parents the readiness

of your child to start and may be able to support you

making this decision. There are only a few places left in

the Transition Class if you wish to start preparing your

child for school now.

If you know of any children of friends or neighbours who

will be starting school next year, please ask them to call

us.

Breakfast

Students need to start their day with a healthy breakfast,

after a good night’s sleep. Without breakfast children

begin to physically and mentally lag during the morning

session. Breakfast restores glucose levels, an essential

carbohydrate that is needed for the brain to function.

Many studies have shown how eating breakfast can

improve memory and concentration levels and improve

mood and lower stress levels.

Just like any other organ in the body, the brain needs

energy to work at it’s best!

Breakfast Club operates at school Monday to Thursday

for this very reason. It is open to every child even if they

have already had breakfast at home earlier.

Thanks to the many volunteers who help each morning

and Armidale Central Rotary Club who fund the supplies

for Breakfast Club.

Welcome Practicum students

Today we welcome two teachers in training who will

spend the next four weeks at school learning more about

the art of teaching.

Ms Amy Crawford will be working with the Kindergarten

class and Ms Kirra Schofield will be with the 3/4 class.

They will work with the normal class teachers to build

their skills and knowledge as they complete their teacher

training at Newcastle University. I am positive they will

learn a lot from our highly skilled expert teachers at

Newling.

Awards Assembly

This week’s Gathering is our Term 4 Awards Assembly

when deserving students will receive their Platinum,

Gold, Silver and Bronze badges and certificates.

This will be our last Awards Assembly for the year and

children will continue to work up to the next level from

now until the first assembly in 2020. Criteria for

achieving award levels can be viewed on our school

website. These are the pinnacle of rewards at our school

and children must consistently meet the criteria over an

extended time to receive the award.

Electives

Every Friday afternoon our electives have had every

student buzzing with excitement with the fun range of

activities on offer. It is great to go around the rooms and

see every child engrossed in an activity and working

together, supporting each other to complete the tasks of

the group.

Electives have proven such a success we will definitely be

continuing with the program next year. A big thank you

to the teachers who make the extra effort to create the

wonderful activities on offer. Without the dedicated

teachers we have at our school these extra programs

would not be possible.

Swim School

We are still awaiting details of Swim School and will

confirm arrangements, as soon as we can. The cost will

be approximately $70 per student to cover cost of pool

entry and instructors’ fees.

If you wish to start paying instalments the school is

happy to accept part payments/instalments up until the

start of the Swim School in about 4 weeks’ time. Please

enquire at the office to arrange such payment or, if

necessary, contact me directly if you have any concerns.

Only students who have paid in full will be able to

participate.

Star Awards

“You’re a Star Award” certificates were presented at this

morning’s assembly to successful students who have

been using the You Can Do It keys to success and

demonstrating persistence, resilience, organisation,

getting along and confidence.

Congratulations to our recipients: Vaughan and Khiarni.

News From 3/4

We are so grateful to those families that

supported the Stage 2 BBQ on the weekend –

thank you from all of us!!

As a class we will decide on the exciting end of

year excursion that we are going to organise as

a way of celebrating the success we have had

this year.

1/2 News

What a busy Term 1/2 have already had and it’s

only week 5!!!

We would like to say a huge thank you to Althea

Maya’s Mother and Grandmother for visiting last

some amazing facts such as French Fries were

first made in Belgium!

News from 5/6

Kindergarten News

Last week Kindergarten spent a day at Thalgarrah Environmental Education Centre. They learnt all about what animals need to survive: plants, air, water and shelter . They became teddies to help them understand the needs of animals and how we can take care of our environment, so that habitat is protected.

Last Thursday, Year 5 & 6 attended the Far Out Science day at UNE. We participated in four main activities- forensic chemistry, ecology studies, engineering and mathematics. Amongst about 15 other school groups the teachers were so very proud of the commitment and attention given by the Newling crew.
