There has been lots of great learning and connecting with families, with still more to come. I am looking forward to sharing the journey with you all! Congratulations and Farewell to Mrs Wilson Late 2018 Mrs Wilson took up a Quality Teacher Advisor position at Miranda Education Office, where she had been doing amazing work with schools across the region. She has recently been successful in gaining a promotion to Learning, Teaching and Leading Coordinator at Riverwood Education Office. As a result, she has to relinquish her Deputy Principal position at Wattle Grove and as a result will not be returning. Mrs Wilson will be sadly missed by the staff, students and community. Her work at Wattle Grove showed not only great educational leadership but immense care and compassion for all! Although it is hard to say goodbye, this promotion is very deserving and I wish Mrs Wilson all the very best! Mrs Wilson would like to thank the community for their incredible support, and the staff and students for the many wonderful memories she will treasure from her time as Deputy Principal and Relieving Principal. She is very grateful to have been part of such an amazing school community. She will continue to keep in close touch with the school and wishes everyone a bright and prosperous future. The Deputy Principal positon will be filled through a merit selection process which is currently underway. I will keep the community informed of the outcome when this process is finalised. Grandparents Day What an amazing day filled with so much love. I was so pleased that many of our grandparents were able to enjoy our special items and visit the classrooms on this day. Wattle Grove encourages strong school Week 5 Week 6 family connections, and grandparent’s day was a perfect example of this focus through opening our doors to share the great work our students and teachers do daily. Together we aim to ensure our children achieve not only the best possible learning outcomes but are courageous, loyal and courteous citizens! The relationship between children and their grandparents is unique and very special. Term 4 Week 4 Tuesday, 12 November 2019

Wattle Grove has been buzzing with lots of activity and excitement over the last fortnight.

She has recently been successful in gaining a promotion to Learning, Teaching and Leading Coordinator at Riverwood Education Office. different in each family but the care and love is very strong. Many of you may also have special family friends who may not be grandparents according to the family tree but take on a unique family role. Whilst not every grandparent could be at this event, I would like to thank all our grandparents and special friends for the important role they play in our children’s lives. I would like to thank Mrs Yardley and Miss Solo for their leadership and organisation to make today possible. I would also like to acknowledge the teachers who have worked with the students who performed! Thank you to Mrs Hankin who organised the gorgeous afternoon tea packages and our School Captains for compering the assembly. Finally, thank you to everyone who came to celebrate grandparent’s day with their loved ones.

2019 Aboriginal Student Achievement Awards Mrs Dodd and I had the pleasure of attending the 2019 Aboriginal Student Achievement Awards last week where Koby received a Cultural, Courage and Commitment Award. These awards are very competitive, and I am very proud of Kody’s achievements. It was a lovely night of recognition and celebration for Koby and his family.

Super Kids Another wonderful morning tea with the 3-6 Super kids for this month. I truly treasure the time spent with the students. Congratulations to all!

Disco Fever! Last week many students danced the night away at the annual P&C Halloween disco. The students enjoyed moving and grooving to the latest tunes in their Halloween costumes, purchasing novelty items and topping up their energy with yummy snacks. Events like this show our community spirit! Thank you to the hard working P&C for organising this wonderful event, it was greatly appreciated! Thank you also to Mrs Fuller, Mrs Richter and Mrs Bartram for supporting the supervision of this event! They reported that it was a fun night and the students’ costumes looked great!

End of Year Presentation Assemblies End of year presentation assemblies provide an opportunity to recognise student achievements. Whilst not every child receives an award, it is a night to celebrate the growth of every child and the learning journey they have undertaken in 2019. We have continued to make some changes to these nights to enhance the experience for all. These have been based on ongoing community feedback. Please see below for dates, times and venues. Kindergarten Presentation Day Date: Wednesday 4 December 2019 Time: 1:30pm Venue: Wattle Grove PS School Hall Stage One Presentation Night Date: Wednesday 4 December 2019 Time: 6:30pm Venue: Wattle Grove PS School Hall Years 3-6 Presentation Night Date: Thursday 5 December 2019 Time: 6:30pm Venue: Holsworthy High School

A rehearsal for the 3-6 assembly will be scheduled later in the term. A note will go home regarding this event.

2020 Planning The school structure and the formation of classes at Wattle Grove Public School is governed by the Department of Education staffing formula. A school structure that best meets the needs of students and teachers will be designed by staff and ratified by the Principal. Currently our student numbers indicate that we will remain with 25 classes in 2020. Students will be allocated to classes by the teaching and executive staff, with the assistance of the Learning Support Team. If you feel there is information of educational reasoning that should be considered when planning for 2020 classes, you are welcome to put this in writing to Miss Cameron by Friday 22 November. Requests for particular teachers will not be considered and is highly discouraged. The classroom teachers who have in-depth knowledge of your children’s abilities and school behaviours are experienced professionals in making these decisions. We appreciate that you trust our professional judgement taking into account the multitude of factors that influence the placement of over 600 children.

End of Year Events As we approach the end of the year, there are many events occurring. Please look out for paper notes and Skool Bag App notifications. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to call the office or see your child’s teacher. There have been a number of questions about the date of the Year Six Farewell which is on 12 December.

Group and Sports Photos On the 18th November our Sports and Special Group photos will be taken. All students are asked to bring/wear the appropriate uniform for the photos. Sports uniform (Green shirt) will be required for all PSSA sporting teams, dancers are asked to wear their dance jackets and black tights and Schools Spectacular dancers are asked to wear their Schools Spectacular black T-shirt and black tights.

Wattle Wanderers This week I attended the 2020 Prefect Speeches. Wow, I was blown away by the professionalism, poise and grace of all the speakers. They clearly articulated why they should be voted to be part of the SRC in 2020, some with humour, some with rhyme and others with authentic promises! It was a joy and privilege to be part of the audience. Congratulations

Are you leaving at the end of the year? As we are nearing the end of the year and are beginning to plan for 2020, we urge all families to inform the office as soon as possible. If you are going on holidays and returning after the 29 January 2020, please contact the office so we have a record of your intention to return to school. Thank you

HEAD LICE ALERT There has been a recent outbreak of head lice at school, we are asking parents to examine their child’s hair for signs of lice infestation and treat accordingly.

During week 3, Mariam (5 Amethyst) proudly

represented the South West Sydney Region at the

Girls State Cricket competition. Mariam, never having

played cricket before, accepted the challenged to try

out for the Liverpool Zone cricket team. She trained

incredibly hard and successfully gained a position on

the team that represented the SWS Region at State.

Mariam was a valuable member of the team and

thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Well done,

Mariam!

Congratulations! Last weekend on the 2 and 3 November, two of our Year 6 students -Cassie and Jarryd- represented our area whilst playing for Southern Districts in the NSW State Under 14’s Softball Championships. Their teams played many games of softball against teams from different parts of NSW during the two days and Jarryd’s team was successful in making it into the Grand Final late Sunday afternoon. Both Cassie &

Jarryd showed sportsmanship, teamwork and joy of the game. We are so proud of them.
