Transition thanks
This week we have concluded our Transition visits for the year. Many thanks to Ann-Louise Whttaker and Gaynor Furnell for all their work welcoming our forty-eight 2018 Reception students and their families to East Para Primary School. It was a busy time, with lots of new people to meet, new places to learn about and new information. It was great to see the existing Reception/Year 1 students helping our new students to learn about classroom routines and where to play in the yard. Thank you! Last Day of the School Year
On the last day of the 2017 school year, Friday 15
th December, the Year 7 students are invited
to bring or wear a white t-shirt which they can get signed by other students and teachers.
The final goodbye to the Year 7s will take place at the whole school assembly at 1:45p.m. in the school hall. The Year 7’s will enter the hall in a procession, sing one song from their graduation and also showcase a dance. It is a lovely way to farewell our graduating students. Please be in the hall, seated for a prompt 1:45 p.m. start!
Please note that we have an early dismissal at 2:15 p.m. on the last day. Premier’s Reading Challenge
On Monday 4th
December our students were presented with their Premier’s Reading Challenge awards for the year. Congratulations to all the students who have been successful with the reading challenge in 2017. Thank you to Cheryl Jackson and Sharon Gibb for their organisation of the P.R.C. at EPPS and the presentation ceremonies which enabled the students to celebrate with and acknowledge each other.
Thank you too, to the mums and dads, grandmas and grandpas, who together with our teachers support their children to enjoy and value the importance of reading in our lives. Disco
I would like to express my sincere thanks to our Governing Council who supported the school disco which was held yesterday. The members of the Governing Council provided supervision and cooked the bbq tea for the school community. Thank you – Richard, Brigitta, Angela, David, Fiona, Michelle and Renee for your generosity and support! End of year excursion
A very special thankyou to Aaron and Fiona for their organisation of our end of year excursions.
Ros Frost
Hi everyone,
Firstly, the two discos and Governing Council BBQ were hugely successful. Thank you to all who supported the event. The students were very well behaved and witnessing the primary students participate in the ‘Birdy Dance’ was definitely a highlight.
The money raised will go towards our nature play area, which is underway with the rocks being placed last week and the students already making good use of them.
Secondly, on the following page is a copy of the insert that will go in the students reports when they go home on Wednesday next week.
They will have your child’s name, their year level, teacher’s name and room number for 2018.
Included is information regarding the process to follow should you wish to discuss your child’s placement.
Please note that unless you make an appointment on the days and at the times provided, we will not be available to meet.

Premier’s Reading Challenge Presentation On Monday the students attended the presentation of the PRC certificates, medals and awards, with like year level groups in the Library. We had lots of excited students getting their awards and it was great to see those students who received the ‘Reader for Life’ Award, who had completed the challenge each year of their Primary Schooling. We hope they keep this tradition going into their High School Years.
Special thanks must go to Mrs Gibb who does all of the administration work for this challenge, and ensures our data is entered each year so that the students receive their awards.
We don’t have our final participation percentage but it would be great to see that grow in 2018 towards that magical 100% participation.
The teachers chose some students who they felt went above and beyond the challenge for some special awards.
The East Para Rock Band has been busy over the past month or so of weekends. They have played at a Fundraiser for the Red Kite Foundation at Seaton, The Mawson Lakes Xmas Fair and the Salisbury Xmas Parade last Saturday. Not to mention performing at the Instrumental Music Night last Wednesday night.
It has been a great year for Joel Cooke and myself working with eight students; Charlie Stewart on Drums, Tahlia Mickel on Keyboard, Bailey Maitland on Guitar, Keira O’Brien on Bass and vocalists Alana Christie, Chelsea Ellis and Leila Basic with our resident rapper Aleysha Moores.
Having a rapper in the band has allowed us to perform a lot of songs that we have not done in the past. It has challenged Joel’s talents in transposing songs into forms that a live band can play and broadened our set list.
Sadly we say goodbye to our Year 7’s and wish them well, hoping that they will keep rocking at high school.
AUDITIONS FOR 2018 : East Para Band will be holding auditions once more in the first week of school. If you are interested in being in the band, please see me in the Office before the end of this year for a chat about what the process will be.
The call is out to vocalists, drummers, guitar & bass players.

Recently some children came across some
people that did not have a home to go to for
food, shelter and support. Not having known of
this unfortunate common issue before, the
children wanted to do something to try and help.
Discussions were had at home about what we
could possibly do to help these homeless people
of Adelaide during this festive season.
If you would like to help Room 20 help the
Adelaide homeless, we will be collecting during
Week 9. We would love to collect socks (new),
underwear (new) and unopened non-perishable
food items. These food items can include things
like canned goods, packets of pasta, boxes of
muesli bars, ready-to-eat canned meals etc.
We will then liase with Ieshia our school Pastoral
Care Worker and donate the items to a local
church where people in need can get help.
Thank you all for your support, and we'd love to
see as many items as we can.

Our Library staff have been busy finishing the stocktake of our books. If you have any books at home, please return them ASAP as accounts will be sent out shortly.
During Weeks 4, 5 and 6, the upper primary school students have been looking at the key components that
make up a PE lesson. Students have been shown teaching planning techniques, lesson plans and developed a
series of teaching activities to teach our Reception and Year 1 classes. In Week 7 Room 31 and 34 students put
their lesson plans into action running mini lessons. An outstanding preparation and effort during the lesson from
Year 7’s Nicole C, Aleysha M and Lucas (pictured to the right) who took photos of their student Ruby as she was
learning and presented a book and certificate to her at the end of the lesson. Truly amazing teaching and caring
of Ruby’s wellbeing, well done!!!!!
This year our SAPSASA program was very successful. We sent 341 participants to carnivals throughout the year which included Athletics, Cross Country, Boys and Girls Soccer, Netball and Football. We had 14 students selected to a represent the Salisbury East District Team which competed against other districts in the State Carnival.

Our major team accomplishment included winning the Division One and Division Two Netball District Carnival (a first for the school).
I’d like to thank our principal Ros Frost and the Governing Council for ensuring SAPSASA is given time to run and is a part of the culture at East Para. I would like to thank upper primary teachers Maddy Gebert and Em Huzzell for their presence at district carnivals.
I would like to say a big thank you to all parents/caregivers who volunteered to coach and/or transport students to carnivals in 2017. Without this assistance, the SAPSASA program would not be able to provide so many students an opportunity to play a SAPSASA sport.
Finally to the students of East Para Primary, each year our passion and commitment to this program grows. I am proud of each student who represented the school this year and each of you displayed our RITCHR values at each carnival.
SAPSASA Cricket
Jayden McDermott and Vance Saler participated in SAPSASA cricket a few weeks ago.
They both did very well taking 4 wickets each over the 4 days. Both made runs as well. Even though the team did not win a match all the players did really well and learned how to act as a team in a short amount of time.
