Term 3 Week 6 Thursday, 7 September 2017
Extra-Curricular Achievements It was great news that three of our PSSA sports teams won their grand final competition last Friday. Well done to our Senior Rugby League, Senior A and Junior A Netball teams. Our Junior Girls Soccer team were runners up. Thank you to Mr King, Mrs Dodd and Miss Ludemann for training and preparing our students for these competitions. PSSA is a great opportunity for our students to learn to play a friendly sports competition which they may not play on the weekend or outside school. The values of ‘sportsmanship’ and ‘safety’ are the two key messages that we foster through the PSSA competition. It is so wonderful to see our students have this success but also have the opportunity to play together as a team and learn and exhibit sportsmanship to their peers. We are proud of all of you.

This Friday night our Cantabile Choir led by Miss Ludemann will be singing in a combined choir of 800 student voices at the Sydney Opera House. I’m looking forward to watching this magnificent event and proud that Wattle Grove, for the first time, will be involved in this Ultimo Operational Directorate activity. Good luck to our dancers performing in the Cross Network Gala Concert tonight at Bankstown Sports Club. Look out for some photos of these upcoming events on our twitter (@WattleGrovePS) or Facebook page (WattleGrovePublicSchool). It certainly has been a busy week for our students beyond the classroom. K-2 Sports Carnival The sun was shining and there were lots of smiles and sportsmanship at our K-2 Sports Carnival on Tuesday. The day was a huge success thanks to the parent support and supreme organisation by Miss Stevens and the Stage 1 team.

NAPLAN online School Readiness Test Year 3 & Year 5 During Term 3 schools across NSW will be participating in the NAPLAN Online school readiness test. The school readiness test is a ‘practice run’ designed to help schools assess their technical and administrative readiness for the transition to NAPLAN Online. Wattle Grove PS students in Years 3 and 5 will be participating in the readiness test next week between Monday 11th September and Friday 15th September 2017. The readiness test will involve students in Year 5 sitting two, 40-minute assessments (a writing test and a combined numeracy/literacy test). Year 3 students will sit a 40-minute combined literacy/numeracy test as they will not participate in the writing test online. Students are encouraged to supply their own set of headphones as they have been using these in class lessons, however they will be supplied with a pair of headphones if they do not have their own set. Student participation in the readiness test is an opportunity for them to become familiar with the NAPLAN Online test format. It is not an assessment of student ability and there will be no reporting of student results. It is important to note that participation in the school readiness test has no effect on students’ NAPLAN results from the paper-based tests students sat in May. There’s more information on the department’s NAPLAN Online website: https://education.nsw.gov.au/teaching-and-learning/student-assessment/naplan-online SASS Recognition Week This week our school is celebrating School Administrative and Support Staff (SASS) Recognition Week. SASS staff have vital roles in the success of our school community including our amazing ladies in the Office and Library: Mrs Dawson, Mrs Whiting, Mrs Cattana and Mrs Kassuehlke; our wonderful General Assistant Mr Harvey and DSTA Kim Lazarevic; and our magnificent School Learning Support Officers, Mrs Garrett, Mrs Cadden, Mrs Dodson, Mrs Hankin, Mrs Brook, Mr Lawrence, Mrs Stanley, Mrs Thomas and Ms Porteous.
Thank you to all of you for everything you do to support students, staff and families at Wattle Grove Public School. We listen: Repeat Link: https://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/wgps2017 This Term, our school will be participating in the Partners in Learning parent survey, another part of the Tell Them From Me suite of surveys (student, teacher and parent surveys) on student engagement. The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement. Running this survey will help our school understand parents’ and carers’ perspectives on their child’s experience at school. These include: communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/carer views on the school's support of learning and behaviour. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements. The survey is conducted entirely online on smartphones, ipads, tablets, laptops or computers. The survey will typically take 15 minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential. The parent survey will be conducted between 21 August and 13 October. Although participating in the survey is entirely voluntary, your responses are very much appreciated. More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au. To access the survey for our school go to: https://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/wgps2017 We will run the survey for a number of weeks to allow as many families as possible to complete the survey. Your input will guide the development of our 2018-2020 School Plan.

Year 6 Footy Fun Day
& Mini Fete
On Thursday 31st August 2017, the Year 6 students ran their fundraising day. The day was an enormous success and everyone had a fabulous time. The Year 6 students worked diligently on their stalls and it was impressive to see them not only assisting each other, but also as the leaders of the school, assisting all students from Kindergarten to Year 5. It is unimportant who actually won the Year 6 vs Teachers football match – but the teachers did put up a valiant effort! Seriously, congratulations Year 6, we were outplayed on the day!! Days such as these don’t just happen without a huge amount of planning and organising. I would like to thank the overwhelming support and generosity of our parents and families who donated prizes, gifts, sale items and especially their time to ensure the success of the day. In particular, I would like to thank our wonderful Mini Fete committee led by Mrs Fields and Mrs Myers, who worked tirelessly alongside the Year 6 teachers, ensuring the day would run smoothly. Overall it was an incredibly successful day and thank you to all who were involved. Collectively, Year 6 has raised $7720 which is an outstanding result and reflective of the fantastic support we have received!

Postings As you know it is posting time again. Many of you would already know if you will be moving at the end of the year. Please make sure you contact the office/classroom teacher and DSTA to inform of students last day of school and where you will be moving to. This information is much appreciated by the school for further planning.
Legacy Week Congratulations to all the students that participated in the Legacy Week annual fundraising event. Students gave up their time to assist in the event and raised a massive $1115.00 that will directly assist families of those who have served.
