TERM 3 NEWSLETTER 2015
PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Hi Everyone,
We have some exciting events coming up at Highmount over the next few months including an art show at
The Highway Gallery, Mount Waverley!
As a part of National Children’s Week celebrations (Oct24-Nov1) the exhibition will open officially on
Saturday 31st October at 12pm.
Every child will have a piece of artwork displayed in the exhibition so be sure to bring your family and
friends along to view the masterpieces!
Keep an eye out in the Waverley Leader newspaper in the coming weeks for an article about our Yoga Bugs
classes. We think this is a unique activity that our children love and want to share it with the community.
For the month of September we also have a display at the Mount Waverley Library. Check it out and spread
the word about our awesome kinder!
A big thank you to our marketing guru Joanne for organising all of this
If you haven’t already, remember to download the Tiqbiz app to find out what’s happening at kinder.
Notices, reminders and newsletters can be accessed easily on your phone. See the instructions in this
newsletter to download the app.
We are planning to transform the existing divider wall in the playground into a music wall. Any donations
of chimes, bells, pots and pans, corrugated materials etc would be appreciated if anyone has any unwanted
pieces at home. Design ideas are also welcome!
Best wishes for a wonderful holiday,
Lou Skepper

3YEAR OLD REPORT
Dear Parents,
We have enjoyed another busy term at kinder. The children are spending much longer at activities, working
in small groups, problem solving and generally playing co- operatively.
The children have been enjoying the following activities
• Creating and constructing with boxes and scrap materials
• Using scissors in their collage and drawing work
• Playing board games, colour and number games
• Finger painting
• Listening post…audio books and headphones
• Shared stories and props eg The Very Hungry caterpillar, Goldilocks and the Three Bears
• Dinosaurs, books and sand play experience
• Restaurant and Animal Hospital
• Also a Fancy Dress Day is planned for the last Wednesday and Friday of term Three. Notices have
been sent home with all the details.
During our music time the children have played simple percussion instruments, and used the bean bags for
balancing and spatial awareness games. The finger puppets are popular and allow the children to take on a
role in front of the group. We have also been learning new singing games and chants and listening to a range
of cd’s. The staff have spent time with the children talking about manners, how we speak to each other with
respect and courtesy and how to resolve conflicts with other children.
We have discussed feelings, talking through problems and being kind to our friends and teachers. We also
deal with any problems as they arise. Sharing is tricky at this age.
A new duty roster for term 4 will be put up on the window above the sign-in book. Please put your name
down for a session and to help with washing if you haven’t had a turn. The children love showing you their
play space and the staff appreciate the extra help. Thanks to all those parents who have given their time and
made our sessions run smoothly.
Thank you to all parents who were able to come in for parent/ teacher chats. It was a great way to share
information and set goals for the coming months.
Coming on kinder duty is a good way of watching your child interact with others and the environment and
have time with the staff to chat about any issues.
Highlights for the children….
The Teddy Bears Picnic was a fun, social experience with lots of opportunity for language development and
shared play experiences.
And our Multicultural Day was so much fun. The children, tasted new foods, talked about countries, showed
their costumes and learnt some of the words to twinkle twinkle helped by Miranda’s grandma and Jason’s
mum Julia. Thanks for sharing this experience with the children.
P.S remember hats for term four.
Thanks to Jenny and Cathy for their wonderful contribution to our kinder.
Thank You
Fiona, Jenny and Cathy

4 YEAR OLD REPORT
Dear Parents,
We have had a busy and productive term 3. The children are becoming more independent and confident in
their abilities. We have been encouraging co-operative and collaborative play and guiding the children to
interact appropriately with each other. The educators at kinder have been modelling appropriate language
and supporting the children to resolve conflict verbally.
We really enjoyed the visit from the Wiggerly Worm dance lady. We danced and dressed as firefighters,
butterflies and we all joined together to act out the story of the Chinese Dragon. Everyone participated and
we all had fun, the Wiggerly Worm dance lady, Diane, even convinced the boys that the glittery butterfly
wings were actually super hero capes. The boys couldn’t wait to role play being super heroes!
The multicultural morning teas were also a lot of fun as parents could join us in sharing the different
traditions and cultures at our kinder. It was great to see the children in their traditional dress and we shared
many foods from different countries. As part of the National Quality Standards we encourage collaborative
partnerships with families and communities.
The Oakleigh fire station was also well attended by all our families. We enjoyed using the massive hoses and
climbing on and off the fire trucks. We watched in awe as the ladder went up so high and we were shown not
to be scared of the firefighter with his mask, oxygen tank and fire safe uniform.
We are now looking forward to our two sessions of Kelly Sports where we will be involved in soccer, ball
games and football. During our last week of term we will have two more sessions with Yoga Bugs.
Amy our intern from Deakin has decided to volunteer every Thursday and the children were very excited to
see her return to Highmount. We are so lucky that we have such fantastic staff and volunteers at our kinder,
this can only enhance and further the children’s education. Thank-you therefore also goes to Sue McIntyre’s
tireless efforts. Thank-you also to our additional assistant Surila Chandra who also works enthusiastically
with the children in the four year old group. Thank-you to Marg Hunt for doing the lunchtime shift.
Thank-you also to Cathy, Jenny and Fiona who create a fantastic environment for the children to continually
learn and flourish at kinder.
Also we would like to thank Anastasia who has been involved in all the paperwork and administrative tasks
at the kinder. There is a huge amount of paperwork that has to be completed regularly at the kinder
The last day of term two is Friday 18th, so wishing everyone a fun filled holiday break.
Best Wishes,
Rachel, Cathy, Jenny and Fiona.
