Curriculum In Grade 5 we have been super busy this term

learning lots of new and interesting things.

Our Science topic for the term is ‘Our place in

Space’ and students have been exploring how the

Solar System works and making models of how

they think it functions. In Writing, students have

been researching Space, learning how to

construct open ended questions to then research

particular topics on Space. Students have been

working really hard during Maths lessons,

particularly in our Multiplication unit and

currently our Subtraction unit. Our RRRR

sessions have focused on trust. We have been

talking about what trust is and what are the

signs of being able to trust someone. What

trustworthy people say and what they do, and

identifying people in our lives that we trust.

Swimming

A reminder that swimming is coming up in

week 10. 16th of September until the 20th

of Sept. If your child has an outstanding

note could those please be handed to the

classroom teacher.

Dogs connect It has been a great experience so far to have

our school dog Bonnie spending more time

in our grade 5 classroom, working with

students and our staff. Selected students

within grade 5 have spent weekly sessions

with Grant from Dogs Connect, learning

how to interact with Bonnie and how to

model appropriate behaviours for their

peers.

Sound Waves

Sound Waves is a synthetic phonics

and word study program. Students

work daily on segmenting skills,

identifying sounds and different

spelling choices based on the

weekly focus sound.
