Leonie Byrne, Principal

Full Time Face to Face Learning RecommencesAll schools are returning to full on-campus learning from Monday 25 May. At Tamworth South all school activities and operations will be in line with Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) and NSW Health guidelines as applicable.

School students do not need to follow physical distancing guidelines, but should follow good hygiene practices like:

z Regularly washing hands z Avoiding sharing drinks or food z Coughing or sneezing into your elbow, or a tissue

which should be discarded immediately. Our teachers will continue to ensure these hygiene practices are part of the daily routine.

School attendanceAll students should be at school unless:

z They have a medical certificate which states that they are unable to return to school due to an ongoing medical condition

z They are currently unwell.

Students who have a medical certificate to stay at home will be supported to learn from home in line with regularprocedures if they are able to. These regular procedures are different to what was offered during the learning from home period. If you require work to be provided to your child whilst they are at home due to an underlying health condition, you should contact the class teacher.

Please note, students who live with a family member in one of the categories identified as being at increased risk by the AHPPC, should attend school unless a medical practitioner advises otherwise in writing.

People identified at increased risk include the following categories:

z People aged 70 years and over z All people with compromised immune systems z People aged 65 years and over only with chronic

medical conditions z Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people over the

age of 50 with chronic medical conditions.

If your child is unwell, do not send them to school. If they are unwell at school you or your nominated emergency contact will need to collect them immediately. Please make sure your contact details are up to date.

If a student is absent without a medical reason for more than three days, this will be recorded as an unauthorised absence and followed up by the school.

School activities z Teachers will continue to follow the same school

curriculum with the exception of some activities that can’t go ahead for now.

What children can do: z Use the school library using alternate procedures

z Engage in non-contact sporting activities

What students can’t do: z School assemblies (unless for critical information)

z School incursions and excursions including camps

z Inter-school activities (debating, inter-school sport)

z Drink from a water bubbler – bring a water bottle instead.

School cleaning and hygiene suppliesOur school will continue to receive additional cleaning in line with the AHPPC guidelines and advice from NSW Health. Targeted areas include high-touch areas and oth-er hard surfaces, door handles, light switches, handrails, cleaning of toilets and topping up of supplies like soap and hand sanitiser throughout the day.

School groundsThere should be no visitors to school sites unless they are essential as determined by the principal. We will continue to release K-2 students at 3:00pm to reduce the number of parents waiting at the gates of an afternoon.

Parents are requested to continue to drop and kiss their children outside the gate and refrain from entering school grounds unless absolutely necessary. Social distancing for adults is still a must.

Responding to COVID-19 casesThe Department of Education has a clear plan in place for schools to respond to any suspected or confirmed cases of COVID-19 in our schools. The Department works closely with NSW Health and we will communicate promptly with parents if a situation was to arise.

Weekly Tip: Wellbeing

This week Fathering Project founder Dr Bruce Robinson talks about physical wellbeing. Watch the video now on The Fathering Channel.

Regular physical activity benefits both the body and mind. Exercise can also improve mental health and overall wellbeing. It has been shown to reduce the risk of depression and mild anxiety (including those that can be made worse by stressful situations like this global pandemic).Six tips for family physical activity:

1. Set up a regular routine to be active every day. Making a specific time to be active helps ensure you get your daily physical activity.

2. Keep screen time to a minimum. It will be easier said than done at the moment for the whole family, but where possible, try to create clear and consistent limits. Think about what your kids could be doing instead such as being active, having family time or playing creatively.

3. Exercise with your family. Plan time to be active with your children with games at home, walks in the park, or cycling can be a way the whole family can relax, be together, active and healthy whilst at home.

4. Play with your kids. Play is a great way to get fit and have fun. Playing chasey, a ball game, running races or a dance competition will get you puffing plus make you laugh which is also great for your health and wellbeing.

5. Set yourself and your family exercise goals. You could record your steps or time you have played. Record your progress on a weekly activity chart or map how far you have travelled. Reward yourselves with something you value.

6. Walk and talk. Take your phone and have walking meetings with colleagues or catch ups with friends and family to encourage them to walk too. Get the kids walking and talking to friends.
