Teamworkskillsandwhatittakestogetthebestoutofyourself.Theyrelatedourschoolmantraof“BeSafe,BeHappy,BeCaringandBeReadytoLearn’,totheirteamcaptain,EastonWood,sayingwhatagreatleaderhewasbecausehe
displayedthesequalitiestoothersallthetimeandhowmuchtheyadmiredhim.TheyspokeofSELskillslikemindfulness,resilience,positivemindsetsandgritandhowimportantitistodisplaytheseskillsonthefootyfieldbutmoreimportantly,inlife.Theyusedtheexampleofhavingapositivemindsetwhenanumpire’sdecisiongoesagainstthemandhowimportantitistopushthroughthedisappointmentandnotgiveup.Respectandkindnesswerealsowordsthatareimportanttothem.
WewereveryimpressedbytheseyoungmenandthepowerfulmessagestheyhadforthestudentsandwouldliketothanktheWesternBulldogsFootballClubfor

Thefirst2weeksofCASEAfocusongettingtoknowothers,helpingthechildren
understandtheirstrengthsandweaknessesandidentifyingandexpressingtheirfeelings.Wetalkabouthowtorecognizehowothersarefeelingandrecogniziefeelingsbylookingatfacialexpressions,bodylanguageand
listeningtoaperson’stoneofvoice.Wealsolookatstrongemotionsanddiscusshowsomeemotionsaremoreintensethan
others.Thechildrenlearnhowtorecognizetheirbody’s‘warningskills’sothattheycanidentifywhentheyarebecomingangry.
