Oorala Leadership CampThe Oorala Youth Leadership camps are designed to provide an opportunity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander male students to develop important values and skills such as communication, leadership, mindfulness and respect. Principal's Report

Principal's Notice

It gives me great pleasure to open this edition of ‘The Buzz’ with news on the appointment of our newest Head Teachers. Firstly, we recently welcomed Anthony Walmsley as new Head Teacher Wellbeing from Peel HS. Anthony bring with him significant experience and capabilities across a broad range of areas which will be a great benefit for our school. Secondly, we recently conducted the selection process for the Head Teacher English position and it gives me great pleasure to announce that Gina Ostle was the successful candidate and as such has transitioned into the role with immediate effect. My congratulations to both Gina and Anthony - I know they will be great additions to the THS team! Over recent times, we have had several major sporting events where the impact of our Sports Development program is starting to show. The U/15s Rugby League competed at the Country Cup Gala Day on Wednesday this week against various schools in the region. Our First game we went down to Farrer Memorial Agricultural High School 36-4, we displayed strong resilience and desire to keep placing our best foot forward during this match, well done to Bailey Wolrige on an individual try to get us on the board. Our second game we carried the same standard of play to beat Oxley high School 22-20 with some great tries from David Lowrie, Jayden McGrath, Kaidan Winsor and Joash Boney scoring a double. Our last game we fell short against Peel High School 24-14, all tries coming from the brilliance of Kaidan Winsor, Joash Boney and Bailey Wolrige. Joash Boney and Damali Trindall-Weribone both kicking a goal each on the day. Outstanding attitude and representation of Tamworth High School was displayed by the students. It was an awesome effort by all involved. The Northwest Cross Country was a great day, with a very challenging course set out at Mullaley. Sixteen THS students competed on the day with the most notable results below.

o Annabelle Wilson 7tho Jonathan Tongue 10tho Jye Lowder 15tho Caine Ford 17tho Georgia Lock 13tho Lachlan Flemming 19th The highlight of the day occurred in the last race which was the 17+ boys - Zaylin Jones hurt his knee with 1km to go and the entire THS crew asked if they could go and run the last part of the race with him. They brought Zaylin home and it demonstrated exactly what sport and the Tamworth High culture is about and the amazing camaraderie amongst our students. We had a number of teams participating in the Oztag Gala day last Friday. Ms Halpin informs me that this was another huge success, with 3 out of 6 THS teams winning the tournament and progressing to the next round which will be held in Sydney next term. The behaviour and sportsmanship of our students was absolutely outstanding. In addition to Ms Halpin, we need to recognise the efforts of Mr Lasscock and Mr Hartmann, who both did an excellent job managing/coaching the teams! The school spirit was particularly high with students cheering each other on. Last Friday’s PTSD Walk was a successful afternoon event and I need to thank the team of students and staff responsible for the organisation and execution. As Michael Van Doesburg noted in his message to staff, the total distance covered was 880 kms and we will have a total for the fundraising aspect later this week.

Mr Daniel Wilson Principal

The final two Staff Development Days of the year (19 - 20 December 2019) are normally pupil free days. However, for 2019, we have made a decision to conduct the professional learning for all staff at earlier points in the school calendar, thus enabling the skills developed during these sessions to be utilised earlier and more effectively by staff. As a result, I need to inform parents and the wider community, that Tamworth High School will be completely closed from close of business Wednesday 18 December 2019. We do not envisage this causing significant inconvenience given the proximity to the summer holiday break.

Senior Winter Uniform

Uniform is an important part of the development of the school as it presents the first (and often lasting) impression people form about the school and more importantly, its students. At Tamworth High School, we want our students to be viewed in a positive way.If you have any questions about the THS uniform, you can contact the office on 6765 7888. The Cowra Dorset State Championships took place during week 7 where we took four ewes and 2 lambs away. The competition was very strong, with Tamworth High winning the Pair of Ewes class in the schools section. The students represented the school excellently and helped other stud breeders with preparing and handling their sheep.

Silent AuctionDuring Term One, our year 11 Agriculture students did a growth trial where broiler chickens were grown using two different types of feed. After the trial ended, a silent auction was held to raise money with the funds returning to the Agriculture plot. Congratulation to Ms Warden for placing the winning bid, the prize bird weighing in at a whopping 3.5kgs

Dance News

Last Thursday our senior dance students had the opportunity to join with other students from the region to partake in a New England Senior HSC Dance Day.

We were lucky to receive a grant from the Arts Council to further senior students in the area of Dance. We were even luckier to be able to have the Head Teacher of Dance from Newtown High School of the PerformIng Arts Miss Leisa Munns, tutor for the day. Miss Munns has been a senior HSC marker and was extremely valuable to have for the day. Thank you to all students that supported the day. Chookas to our upcoming HSC cohort who sit their Dance HSC in August! Miss Breanna McFadyen CAPA Teacher
