Our Vision

We are called to provide an exemplary Catholic Education.

Discipleship: With Christ as our light we aspire to nurture the whole person in a community centered on gospel

values.

Learning: We are committed to providing an education that empowers all to become life-long learners.

Dear Parents

Lent

Students celebrated Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday this week, to mark the start of the Lenten period of

preparation leading up to Easter. Lent is a time of prayer, fasting and almsgiving. There’s nothing tricky about

Lent, it’s simply tuning in to God’s presence and deepening our relationship with God and each other. There are

many ways we can do this at home with our children.

Scheduling time together as family

Saying nice things to each other

Reducing our compulsive purchases

Mission Award

Well done to 1L who were the worthy recipients of February’s Mission

Award, which goes to the class who has raised the most money for the Mis-

sions . The class spoke about what they were grateful for each day .

Eagle’s Visit

Last week the West Coast Eagles visited St Francis Xavier School. The players spoke to the whole school about

healthy diet, training and keeping healthy. Students then asked questions to each player. I learnt that to be

healthy I should eat fruit, vegetables

and drink lots of water.

God Bless

Ben Doyle

Lord God,

You come to rule the

earth, to rule with jus-

tice and reward those

who have been faithful

to you.

Amen

Label that Lunch Box

Already excessive amounts of unlabeled lunch containers, hats and other items are filling the lost property boxes.

Teachers can only assist in returning property if they are clearly labelled. Take the time, save some money and label

all items clearly with your child’s name.

Parking Issues

Thank you to all parents who have assisted by following correct parking procedures. The start of the year is always

busy with children requiring additional support before transitioning to the kiss and drop zones. Additionally, a change

in the finish time for a neighboring school has added to the volume of cars being present in this period. Please be pa-

tient and respectful to each other and ensure student safety is a priority during afternoon pick up.

Swim Carnival

This year’s swimming carnival for year 4 –6 will be held next Thursday 9th March at the Aquarena. The carnival will

start at 11.30am and conclude at 2.30pm. Students are to come to school as normal, they will get changed at school

and will travel to the Aquarena by bus. At the conclusion of the carnival parents need to collect their students

from class teachers and have names ticked off. Any students who cannot be collected from the carnival need to let

their class teacher know, these students will travel by bus back to school to be dismissed at 3pm. On Thursday students

are to wear their school sports uniform with their faction coloured shirt, with their bathers underneath.

Uniforms

Total Uniforms have advised they now have the School Sports Jacket back in stock.

Student Address Collection Please see the attached note from the Department of Education and Training regarding the 2017 Student Residential Address Col-lection.

RELIGION

Value of the Week—HONESTY For the next fortnight as a school we are focusing on the value of Honesty. Honesty refers to a facet of moral character and connotes positive and virtuous attributes such as integrity, truthfulness, straight-forwardness, along with the absence of lying, cheating, theft, etc. Furthermore, honesty means being trustworthy, loyal, fair, and sincere. We show Honesty to ourselves, others and the community by: • Taking responsibility for our own actions. • Speaking up for what is right. • Considering our carbon footprint. In the Gospels of Jesus we read numerous stories about Jesus helping those who are honest and sincere about their faith and trust in God. One example is the story of the woman who was suffering of severe bleeding. Within a large crowd she managed to touch Jesus’ cloak and was instantly cured. Jesus could sense the power go from him and asked, “Who touched me?’. Trembling and worried that she had done wrong the woman was honest and admitted to Jesus that it was her. Jesus said to her, “My daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your trouble. Good things happen to those who are honest. Project Compassion Our social justice focus for the season of Lent is supporting the work of Caritas through their Project Compassion fundraising program. Families have been sent home a money box. Please fill generously with your spare change and return a the end of term.

FAMILIES ASKING FOR BAPTISM OF THEIR SCHOOL AGE CHILDREN

Families of Children who are not Catholic who have begun their schooling at school this year and asking to be baptised in order to make their First Reconciliation, First Communion and Confirmation in the Catholic Community are invited to contact Carol Quill, Coordinator of the Parish Sacraments Formation Team by the 27th of February on 9964 2716 or email [email protected].

Another option is to call into the Parish Office at the Catholic Centre, ph: 9964 1608 and complete an Enrolment Form which will be given to Carol.

If you have not already met with one of the Priests, Carol will arrange a meeting for you to build up the relationship between the Parish and your family.

All the sacraments will be celebrated in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th terms of the school year. An important way of helping your children prepare for Baptism or Reception (if already baptised in another Church) and participate the Sacraments, there will be a brief 4 weeks preparation time on Baptism for the children immediately after School beginning in March. You, as parents are very wel-come to join in the classes.

I do hope this year of 2017 will be a time of blessing for you and your children as the new school year begins.

Fr Michael Morrissey
