Term 1 Week 8, 19 March, 2020

Principal’s Report - Richard Ford

Currently it is an uneasy time for many people with the uncertainty of what is going on throughout the

world. The school will always follow the advice of the department of education who are being advised

by the health experts on what needs to be done at the moment.

The department has advised of some social distancing measures that schools need to implement as a

precaution. These include school assemblies, cross school sport (PSSA), community days and all excursions

being cancelled until further notice.

Although students and parents alike will be upset that they can’t share moments of things such as

receiving awards, we will still be issuing awards in class time for the students doing a great job.

We have put in place monitoring situations of the hand soap in the bathrooms and the school has spent a

significant amount of money in purchasing hand sanitisers and dispensers for each classroom.

We understand the fear that some people have but students need to come to school if they are not

presenting with any flu like symptoms. Students who are away and are not sick will be recorded as

unjustified but explained leave.

Teachers have been constantly discussing with students good hygiene practices and the importance of

thorough hand washing.

The department have suggested three main things in reducing any possible spread of a virus.

Wash hands thoroughly and frequently

If you need to cough or sneeze, do it into your elbow.

If any students, staff or parents present with flu-like symptoms they should stay away from the school

until they are better.

The department has stated any student that presents with flu-like symptoms should be sent home as a

precautionary measure. Crawford will be following this advice.

Regular updates will be posted to the school’s Facebook page from the department and parents can

access education.nsw.gov.au for the latest information.

Parents have been wondering what will happen if schools close. The department has created a resource

for teachers to develop online lessons for students if that was to arise. The teachers have been offered

some training that they can do to use these tools for the continuity of learning. Be assured there will be

plenty of communication if this is to happen.

Our Harmony day will still go ahead but will have no community involvement and will just happen in

classes, the Autism awareness mufti day will also go ahead and photo day will still happen at the end of

the term.

It is a shame that the situation has taken up so much of this message when it is great to see students

getting on with learning. I have been around to a number of classes and the amount of students wanting

to contribute to lessons is amazing. When students feel safe in an environment they tend to take more risks

with their learning and be able to progress further.

New green contact cards will be sent home with students this week to be completed by parents/carers so

we have updated contact numbers for when the school office needs to make contact with you.

Step into Stage One!!

Students in Stage One have been impressing their teachers with the

improvements in their reading. Every day students participate in Guided

Reading Group activities. Here students have the opportunities to work on

reading skills, writing skills, responding to stories and even learning how

words work e.g. making pet say vet and then making vet say net.

In maths our wonderful students are learning to collate data information

and display it on a graph. They are also building upon their knowledge of

fractions. Ask your children which is bigger; halves or quarters?

Our students love to share their learning with their parents and caregivers

via the app SeeSaw. Last week notes were sent home to explain SeeSaw

and how you can join onto your child's learning journal. If you can we

highly recommend that you join and share in the educational journey

alongside your children.

If you have any questions or concerns, please see your child's teacher or

book an appointment with Miss Allen.

Keep smiling and Dream Believe Achieve!

PaTCH!!

Last week I was fortunate enough to start training our new PaTCH

Parents (Parents as Teacher Classroom Helpers).

They had a great time learning about the importance of talking, listening

and vocabulary and we even were able to play a few literacy games. All

the parents have mentioned how excited they are to be working in our

classrooms supporting the children of CPS. Some have already been into

the classrooms and are proving to be a wonderful asset.

If you would like to join our PaTCH program please contact Miss Allen or

come to the Instructional Leader office (Next to 5/6G classroom) on Friday

at 2pm.

We're collecting eligible drink containers to redeem for a 10c refund each

involved in recycling, help reduce litter and raise money for our school.

You can do your bit to help at school by putting eligible containers in our

orange recycling bins (located in the office and stage 3) or by donating

them at one of the two the reverse vending machine locations below,

between the 24th of February and the 24th of May. Simply scan your eligible

containers and choose to donate your refund to Crawford Public School.

You can donate your refunds at the following reverse vending machines:

Plumpton Hotel Glendenning 556 Richmond Rd, Glendenning, 2761 or
