A big thanks to Jo Dykes and her helpers for their very low fuss organisation. Over the past few weeks we have had many students trialing in various sports, at both Deanery and Diocesan level which is a huge effort. Special mention goes to Lani and Sam who have earned themselves positions in the MacKillop Basketball teams. Our ‘Kinder 2018 Information Morning’ will be held on Wednesday 29 th March. It will be held in the Sacred Heart Hall and Church. If you would like further information please contact Gordon at: [email protected] Sunday’s Gospel for the First Sunday of Lent (Matthew 4:1- 11) was the Temptation of Jesus in the wilderness. Jesus was tempted again and again but never failed. He grew stronger. This reminds us to turn to God for help and strength in overcoming our own temptations and weaknesses. Let us take an honest look at where our lives are heading and how we can make changes and turn back to God. “Changes are important to and expected in a life of progress and growth. Whether changes enrich our lives or hinder us will depend on our perspective of change itself, on our ability to go through change and on our awareness of God’s presence and power in our lives.” May our Lenten journey be blessed as we grow together in Christ, Kind regards, Liz Johnston. LENT

Project Compassion boxes were sent home to each family last week. Here is a story about how some of the money raised by

Caritas is used.

Lent Week 1: In Sunday’s Gospel reading from Matthew we heard of how Jesus was led by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness. He fasted for forty days and nights. Then the Devil tempted him, promising him riches, power and glory if Jesus would worship him. But Jesus turned Satan away. PRAYER: Lord Jesus, you are the perfect example of how we are to live. Help us this Lent to grow closer to you and your Father. Amen. LENT originated as a set time for prayer and fasting for those preparing for Baptism at Easter, in imitation of Jesus’ time in the desert. The practice grew and became formally extended to all Christians for the six weeks before Holy Week. It is a time to take stock of our spiritual life, change our lifestyle habits to grow closer to God and to our families and communities.

Week one of Lent: Dinia, Philippine

Dinia, widowed and shy, struggled on her own to make ends meet until her community encouraged her to participate in the Socio Pastoral Action Center Foundation Inc. (SPACFI) program, supported by Caritas Australia. SPACFI’s Integrated Community Development Program helped her develop diverse ways to gain a sustainable livelihood, con-tinue to send her children to school and contribute to her community. Now she inspires her neighbours through her commitment to the common good.

Please donate to Project Compassion 2017 and help our most vulnerable neighbours in the Philippines to build a stronger future for their families and their communities.
