Messages from Principal

Communication

Communication is a very important aspect to a relationship working effectively. To ensure that the rela-tionship between the school and the community functions well, we have several ways that parents can find out information. The most important ways are through our school website (which includes a calendar of events), the School APP and the weekly newsletter. Some teachers may also use Seesaw and Class Dojo to communicate information to parents. However, it is vitally important to have the School app so that you can receive notifications of important information related to the school, grade, class or extra curricula ac-tivity, including last minute postponements or cancellations. Before contacting the office directly, please check the school website, newsletter or School app, as the information you require will usually be commu-nicated through these platforms.

The school website contains general information which we try to maintain regularly.

Should you need to contact the school, please use the phone number above. The school does not have an

answering machine. Therefore, your personal call during office hours is considered our official means of

communication.

The school also receives your communication (and many others) by email on the above email address.

However, the school email is, as much as possible checked daily before 9:30 and throughout the day as

time allows. Any communication received later that day may not be acted upon until the next school day.

I am available to see parents most days and appointments can be made through the office. As the only

school executive without a teaching load, I hope you understand that my priority is teachers and students

before the start of the school day and I may not be able to see you.

Teaching staff are pleased to make appointments for face-to-face or telephone interviews any time a re-

quest is made. However, they are unable to have impromptu interviews on the classroom doorstep as chil-

dren are entering class for the day or during teaching time. Please do not be offended should any teacher

refuse to hold an interview with you at these times.

Official office hours are from 8.30am to 3.30 pm. Before or after these times the office phone may not be

answered as school staff may not be in the office area.

In support of effective communication, we remind you of the implementation of the School Community

Charter that provides guidelines for collaborative, respectful communication between home and the

school.

Parents and Citizens’ Association (P&C)

The first meeting of the P&C will be held in the staff room on Monday 17 February at 7.00pm.

The P&C welcomes the participation of all parents, so regardless of whether you are new to the school or

an ‘old hand’, please come along. The P&C team is second to none and raises funds for the benefit of each

and every student in the school. In addition, the P&C provides a quality uniform shop, a first class canteen

service, and Out of Hours School Care. A hard-working band committee and supports the school in a myri-

ad of other ways.

Anaphylaxis

As we have a number of children in the school with anaphylaxis and Epipens at school we do ask that par-

ents consider not sending nut products to school and speak to their children about not sharing food at re-

cess or lunch time. As well as nut allergies we also have mango and egg allergies. If your child has anaphy-

laxis please make sure we have their current Anaphylaxis Care plan and current Epipen. All staff have com-

pleted intensive anaphylaxis training. If your child has any allergy, medical condition or special needs please

let us know as soon as possible.

Volunteers

We love having parents and community members help out at school. Many of you have skills and talents

that could enhance what we can offer here at school and we look forward to your offer of time and assis-

tance. Volunteers require a current Working With Children Check ‘Declaration’ and to provide approved

identification annually before commencing in any volunteering role at Wideview Public school. Please see

the office for the current requirements.

Concerns

I extend a reminder to all that if at any time you find that you have a concern about anything to do with the

school, you are encouraged to come to the school and tell someone so that your concern can be resolved. It

is our aim to work with all of our school community to ensure that we do the very best we can to ensure a

productive, safe and enjoyable experience for our students. Office staff will direct your enquiry to the staff

member with responsibility for the area of your concern.

Our Leaders

Last Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, our captains and vice captains attended a leadership camp with

school leaders from most of the other schools in the Northern Sydney area. They had an amazing time lis-

tening to motivational speakers, attending workshops and socialising with other student leaders from our

local schools. Our leaders thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

School Swimming Carnival – 2020

On Thursday 30th January our students participated in our annual swimming carnival at the Hornsby Aquatic Centre. It was a great day for spectators and competitors. The house spirit and level of attendance and par-ticipation was outstanding with Macquarie proving too good, to take out the Swimming Championship Tro-phy!

It was great to have a large contingent of parents working as officials and supporting the children throughout the day! I would like to thank all of the parents and especially our teachers (for some their first swimming carnival!) for their assistance at the carnival. The Wideview Way was very evident throughout the day. The pool officials commented on the manners and behaviour of our students which is always wonderful to hear!

The Zone swimming carnival will be held on the 10th March this year at Homebush SOPAC. More details to come!

The Hornsby Zone Team will be announced very soon and the ribbons will be presented at an upcoming as-sembly (Details in the newsletter).

A big thank you to Julie Lowe for writing out the swimming ribbons.

Debating Club – Entries closing soon

A reminder to all debaters that your entry/permission note must be handed in to Mr Smith in the Library by

this Friday, 14 February.

Debating Club will be held every Monday morning from 8.15 to 9.00am in the Library. Take advantage of the

amazing opportunities available through debating such as public speaking skills, persuasive writing tech-

niques, collaborative skills and improved self-confidence.

Please collect a permission note from the Library and return it by Friday 14 February.

Book Club for 2020

Welcome back to Book Club for 2020. Catalogues for Issue 1 have now been distributed to all students.

Please ensure all orders are placed by the due date of 14 February 2020 so you can avoid paying a delivery

fee. All orders need to be placed online only (see the Option 1 instructions inside the back cover of the cata-

The Calendar is updated each week. Please check regularly for any additions or changes which will be

marked in red for your convenience.

Canteen Lunch Pack

Tomorrow Friday 14th children will be able to order a Sausage Sand-

wich and Can of drink for $4. The leftover Parent Teacher infor-

mation Night sausages and drinks will be available for order but as

there is a limited supply it will be only available whilst stock lasts.

Because of the limited numbers it is best to order through Munch

monitors as there will be no guarantee for over the counter orders.

Let your child know what the order is and when, so they can come to the canteen that day if anything is not quite right.
