From the Principal We are already more than half way through term one and

our school continues to be a school that sets high standards

in all facets of every child’s education. Last Friday saw us hold the Induction

Assembly for our 2018 Student Leaders. The Student Leadership Council

members were presented with their blazers and they are now wearing

them with pride around the school.

Their first fundraising event was held today with the World’s Greatest

Shave and we will announce how much money was raised in the next

newsletter. I am very excited at the potential of this group of outstanding

students and look forward to seeing them continue to develop their

leadership skills and make positive changes within our school as they

actively represent the peers who elected them.

INTRODUCING OUR

PATHWAY PLANNER I am a Youth Mentor at National

Joblink where I provide intensive, pre-employment support to

improve the work readiness of

young people aged 15-21 years and help them

into work or education. I have worked in the

Employment Services sector for over 10 years

and I have extensive experience in assisting

people with resume and cover letter writing, job

applications, pathway planning and upskilling

through further education to improve

employment prospects.

I am attending Exeter High weekly to meet with

year 10 students to offer support and guidance

with their pathway planning. I will be supporting

the students throughout the year as they plan

their college education and career choices. I will

be assisting with but not limited to resume and

cover letter writing, career and current labour

market advice and conducting L1 learners tests at

the school. I am happy to help with any requests

that the students may have and I look forward to

working with them throughout the year.

Suzanne Johnston

This year, we also have Student Advisors and they are

already displaying outstanding leadership qualities

working with our Grade 7 students as they settle into

their first term at Exeter High. These students will

also attend the Grade 7 camp in the first week of

term two to assist our teachers with the activities

that students participate in during the camp.

Attendance is such an important aspect of every

student’s learning and we will be introducing a new

initiative where we contact parents through a school

postcard when a student has been absent for an

extended period of time. The purpose of this is to

offer any assistance possible to try to increase the

attendance of any student who has missed a large

percentage of days.

We held our annual swimming and diving carnival last

week at the Launceston Aquatic Centre and an

incredible 17 swimming records were broken during

the day. Once again, the feedback in relation to our

students’ behaviour that we received from teachers,

pool staff and members of the public was

overwhelmingly positive. We are certainly a school

that represents itself to such high standards whenever

we are out in the community and this is another

aspect that we should all be immensely proud of.
