PRINCIPAL’S REPORT Many thanks to everyone who was able to attend our Meet the Teacher evening. I hope you found the sessions to be helpful and informative. We look forward to our continued partnership. Later this term on Tuesday, 10th April, we will have Term 1 parent/teacher interviews. Please note this in your diaries. Notes will be sent home later this term. For those who attended ‘Meet the Teacher, our new Home School Liaison Officer Mrs Safa Libdy, provided parents with attendance information, highlighting the importance of regular attendance and referring to the Department Of Education’s Attendance Policy and requirements. Students who are frequently absent or late to class miss out on enormous chunks of vital learning. Let’s work together and give our students every opportunity to succeed as we

‘Strive for 95! Our swimmers were magnificent on Thursday as they combined with Parramatta East Public School to compete in the 2018 Swimming Carnival – such wonderful school representatives displaying sportsmanship as well as endurance. Thank you to Mr Wheatley, the accompanying teachers and the family supporters who supervised and encouraged our students throughout the day.

PNPS Family Fun Sports Afternoon was once again a huge success, so well supported by our school community. What a pleasant way to commence 2018. A special thank you to the teachers for their enthusiasm and support.

Staff News – Farewell Mrs Pizzuti! Thank you and farewell to Mrs Rosemary Pizzuti who announced her retirement from teaching. This has brought a dedicated career of outstanding service to public education to an end. Mrs Pizzuti has touched the lives of hundreds of families in our community. In her role as an EAL/D teacher, she demonstrated enormous expertise in teaching English to newly arrived students to Australia. Moreover, she continued to liaise with families to ensure they were able to access support and services as they faced the challenges of moving to a new country and learning a new language. Our PNPS community wishes Mrs Pizzuti a fabulous and well-earned retirement. As she possesses a multitude of talents and interest, we know this is the beginning of another journey. Thank you Mrs Pizzuti – you have made a difference!! A special K-6 assembly will be held on Thursday, March 8, commencing at 2.30pm to farewell Mrs Pizzuti.

    Parramatta Eels players visit PNPS

Eels Assembly I was so excited seeing the Eels walk into our hall, smiling and waving at us. Two Eels players were standing on the stage. Firstly they introduced themselves - Will Smith and Josh. They told us about themselves, their favourite shows and their ages. Next they played a video for us and then they had a quiz for us. It was fun answering their questions. We then watched a video about a little boy from Sydney who plays for the magpies. The Eels were amazing. Amia, 6/5YA Book Sale Thank you to everyone who purchased books at our recent Book Sale. Learning and playing chess helps children develop their logical thinking and problem solving skills, improves their concentration and focus, while also being a great source of enjoyment. Activities include group lessons on a demonstration chess board or interactive whiteboard, puzzle solving and fun practice games. Students earn merit awards by making checkmates, or by displaying skills and positive qualities, which all good chess players strive to develop. If your child is interested in taking part, you can collect an enrolment form from the school office, or email [email protected] for a copy. For all enquiries, please contact Sydney Academy of Chess on 9745 1170.

Our school is now participating in the Coles Sports for School 2018 program. For every $10 spent at Coles, customers will receive one Sport for Schools voucher. Families can bring the

vouchers to school and place them in the collection bin at Miss Young’s classroom. Every voucher received will go towards our tally to order sports equipment for our students.

This program has started now and will run until the final day for community to return vouchers on 11 May. Thank you for supporting our school.
