The Diary of Anne Frank is an extraordinary account of a young
girl’s life spent in hiding. Anne and her family spent two year in an
attic in Amsterdam, hiding from Nazis. Anne’s family moving from
Germany to Amsterdam. In Amsterdam, the Jewish refugees are treated
well. When Hitler conquered Holland on 1940, the Jewish people lost
their freedom. The Frank family went to hiding to avoid being sent to a
German labour camp. Anne was only thirteen years where she went
into hiding. She began to record her thoughts and feeling in her diary.
In 1994, the Nazis were tipped off about their hidden place. They were
arresting and eventually all of the Frank family died in concentration
camps except for Mr Frank. One of his employees discovers a diary and
kept it safe. She later handed them to Mr Frank who decided to publish
it. The book remains in the bestseller list until today.

Read the following article. Then, answer the question (a) – (j).
Water pollution happens in the ocean, seas and rivers. Surprisingly, a large part of this
pollution may be traced to our own homes. Water pollution affects wildlife and their habitat.
Much of the pollution that may be traced to homes is because many people use the toilet
bowls and the wash basins as garbage dumps. They pour chemicals and medicines into these
places. There isn’t enough awareness about how hazardous this can be.
Unbelievably, shampoos, soaps, toothpaste and artificial fragrances have serious effects on
rivers, seas and oceans. The special chemicals that make these products more attractive to the
consumers end up returning to us in the form of polluted drinking water. Drinking water is made
bacteria free, but it is almost impossible to remove all the synthetic chemicals that have come
from man-made products.
Self-discipline and awareness creation are two ways that each of us can reduce our personal
contribution to pollution. This can be made effective only if we constantly remind ourselves to
use products that we absolutely need. We must never use products simply because they make us
look richer or more stylish.

Read the speech below.
Good morning students of SMK Sungai Seri Limau. Examinations are important and as
such, you have to be well-prepared to perform your best. As the examination period is
approaching, some of you may have butterflies in your stomach. But don’t worry. Today, I would
like to share some tips on how you can perform well in your examination.
Firstly, it is a bad habit to stay up late to catch up on your revision. Another one is to
revise at the eleventh hour. These bad habits should not be encouraged. Always revise
consistently, especially after the lesson is taught. Don’t be afraid to ask questions in class,
especially on topics or concepts that you have difficulty understanding. Talk to your teachers as
they can provide you the necessary guidance.
Besides, you can form a study group. Studying in a group enables you and your friends to
share ideas and opinions. This can be a valuable source of information, especially in areas you are
weak in.
During an examination, listen to the instructions given by the invigilator. He will tell you
the time allocated to answer the questions and ask you to check the printed pages of the paper.
Use the time given to you wisely. If you are unable to answer a difficult question, do not
waste time on it. You can come back to it later. Move on to do the easier ones first. Once you
have finished, do not leave the hall. Read what you have answered and check your work. There
may be some errors which can be corrected.
Don’t forget to bring along your identity card with you on the day of the examination. You
will need it to enter the examination hall. Finally, always arrive early at least half an hour before
the paper starts. Never arrive just on time or late for the examination.
These are some of the tips you can follow to prepare yourselves for an examination.
Remember our performance in an examination depends on our efforts to prepare for it. Thank you
