Welcome

We are pleased to announce that here at the Tendring Business Community Magazine we are celebrating our second anniversary with this, our ninth edition. I never cease to be amazed by all the interesting and innovative businesses that we have interacted with across the Tendring peninsula over the past two years.

As always I would like to thank the TBCM team for their dedication that has gone into producing another issue and I would also like to thank and show appreciation to all the advertisers, and sponsors of the magazine whose continuing support is essential to this publication.

Thanks also to all the members of staff at Charnallies, Clacton-on-Sea, where the our last networking event was held in July. My special thanks to Toby who I really did put on the spot, but I wanted the group to know about Charnallies all you can eat buffet breakfast every Sunday from 10:30am until 12:30pm for only £5.00 per person.

Our next networking event celebrating our second anniversary will be held at The Waterfront in Harwich on 7th November from 2:00pm until 5:00pm. Further details can be found on the back cover.

In this issue our ‘Focus On’ differs slightly by featuring a few places of interest that can be found ‘on your doorstep’. The Tendring area has a great deal to offer for days out and this issue highlights a small selection.

Remember, if you have a good news story or blog that you would like to submit for a future edition for us to consider, please feel free to contact the team or myself.

Mobile communication with Conntec.co.uk

We Buy & Sell Static Caravans and Mobile Homes Nationwide!

Local firm offers new approach to Mobile communications delivering savings of up to 60%.

Conntec.co.uk is a leading provider of Technology hardware and Telecommunications services to business customers. We are a business that started its life in Clacton 15 years ago as an independent reseller of brand name computer technology and consumer electronics products online. However, over the last five years we have widened what we offer to customers as new technology and services have become available. In particular, we have focused on Mobility and Connectivity or in other words; we help businesses to save money on their mobile phone bills and get them connected via new technologies such as 4G mobile broadband.

Sales Manager – Scott Appleton says, “We appreciate that there are now a plethora of different mobile communication products and services and companies just don’t have the time to research all the options. Our role is to understand what our customers need and then take on the job of finding the right solution at the right price”.

As an independent provider we can offer:

All major hardware manufacturers such as Samsung, Apple, Sony etc.

Sunrise Holiday Homes are a family run static caravan dealership based in Weeley, Essex. We sell quality used and new

homes for a variety of uses. Whilst we supply our caravans nationally and Europe wide, our real speciality is off site sales for clients doing self build projects, home renovations, or for annex accommodation. As they are now being used more and more - the grey line between a ‘caravan’ and a ‘home’ is becoming lighter! We supply to the trade & public (from £500 to £150,000) and for any use; luxury homes, chicken coops, holiday letting lodges. We’ve sent them onto old barge boats and even across the planet to New Zealand! We also have one at our showground which we’ve converted into a music studio… sort of! The uses are endless and with this ‘green revolution’, more people are realising these could be the future to sustainable homes…

All the major mobile phone networks. such as O2, Vodafone and EE. The ability to tailor our tariffs

and packages to meet your exact requirements. Innovative way to reduce capital

expenditure on technology purchases such as laptops and tablet computers. Price match guarantee on all hardware sales.

Our experience has shown that by talking to us businesses can benefit from cost savings, reduced capital expenditure as well as deploying new services such as Mobile Broadband that increase efficiencies and productivity.

RECEIVE A QUOTATION FROM CONNTEC AND GET A FREE TABLET COMPUTER*. For a limited time we are offering customers a FREE Tablet computer if they allow us to make a quote for their mobile telecommunication requirements. Terms and conditions apply – minimum five mobile handsets.

To get your free tablet simple call us on 01255 222244.

We deliver all over the UK, as well as exporting to Holland, France, Spain, Czech Republic, Lithuania and

many more places. Locally, we include free delivery within 100 miles on all of our stock, covering our good county and beyond. All of our caravans are gas & electric checked, serviced and valeted (inside and out), but our secret weapon is Nigel & his band of merry men… The ‘we’ll get it in’ team at Newfhouse Transport! Many customers want them sited in their gardens or on farm land with difficult access - the team specialise in finding the best way to get it in without damage and sited. Nigel will be more than happy to share his catalogue of stories with you, just don’t forget to make him a cuppa!

We are a family business, and our primary goal is to supply good quality homes, at good prices and with great customer care. Our no pressure service is something hard to find these days, we’re here to help first, sell second! We like to think everyone leaves here with a smile and a belly full of tea!

Our Voluntary Community

Inclusion Ventures was established in 2004 in response to

concerns about vulnerable young people in the West Clacton

area.

We offer young people a specialised staff team that understand

the underlying issues that lead to young people to challenge.

With respect and trust, we gradually encourage them to

understand the responsibility that goes hand in hand with their

rights. At our drop-ins we give young people something to take

ownership of and gain a sense of belonging.

We include young people in decision making and have a

commitment to community based solutions. Young people

are provided with a safe environment and interesting

activities that they can take pride in. We offer opportunities

for our young people to become responsible members of

their community. We support education, develop health and

wellbeing and increase aspiration. Our relationships with other

local organisations enable us to liaise and provide a broad

range of support.

We are based at Coppins Hall Community Centre in Maldon

Way, Clacton but also run sessions at Jaywick Resources

Centre, Brooklands, Jaywick Base at 12 Brooklands Gardens

and Jaywick Methodist Centre at Crossways. We run various

Cleaning…It can be a nuisance at times but it doesn’t have to be.

When arriving at work, all we require is a clean and tidy office. A presentable environment that our work-force can work in and our

visitors / guests appreciate. The image of your business should reflect well to your potential client. If your premise is clean, tidy and organised – surely your operation is?

For some of our clients, this wasn’t the case before we attended their site, before we were awarded a contract, before we improved the standard.

Cleaning and Facility services is what we do best but the correct management is essential. Staff have to be trained and understand how to perform the task. Communication

is key between both parties. Trust is a huge factor, we are provided with the key and alarm details. Knowing who is in your building and when. If you are not receiving this standard of service, then perhaps it is time for a change. Can we help? We know we can.

If you would like a review and estimate for your premise, call us on

Jaywick Martello Tower supports creative collaborations relating to the themes of Community, Heritage and Environment that affect our lives today.

Community - JMT taps into and supports Jaywick’s strong sense of community. With many local residents interested in volunteering and contributing to their local community, JMT acts as a central hub. JMT’s community is not limited to the local people of Jaywick, but also incorporates regional and global communities, not only in a physical but also in a virtual sense.

Heritage - The history of JMT as a military fortification provides an exciting opportunity to work and communicate with the community. This alongside the wider history of Jaywick offers a rich mix for developing innovative heritage programmes within the spirit of community engagement, a spirit that has always existed here.

Environment - The coastal location of JMT makes it an ideal site for creative exploration of our environment. JMT

Urgent warning to taxpayers in Tendring

Businesses can bank on Brouard

An urgent warning is being put out to ratepayers in Tendring in a bid to stop them paying out unnecessary cash.

Companies are contacting people about their Business Rates and offering to get them reductions for a fee.

But no one needs to pay a firm to make any arrangements – they just need to contact Tendring District Council (TDC) if they want to discuss their bill.

The Council has recently received a number of calls from ratepayers who have been contacted by a company.

It led to some ending up with a bill of £399 plus VAT, which was total unnecessary.

Paul Honeywood, TDC’s Cabinet Member for Housing, Benefits and Revenues, said everyone needs to be aware – and not be caught out.

“If anyone is contacted by one of these companies and offered this service for a fee I suggest they contact us first before doing anything else,” he said.

Businesses in Tendring are set to benefit from the appointment of a new specialist advisor.

The role is aimed at understanding company’s needs and providing information and advice - as well as facilitating growth and fostering resilience in the District’s economy.Andy Brouard is Tendring District Council’s (TDC) Business Advisor, a newly-created role within the Regeneration Team.

He will be looking to establish better communication with companies and to help local firms develop a clear understanding of the support that is now available from the Council.

Mr Brouard, 47, will also seek to understand the requirements of businesses in the District and will develop tailored support programmes that respond to their needs.“I am here to listen to our business community so that the Council can deliver tangible support which meets the specific needs of firms in Tendring,” he said.Mr Brouard comes to the Council from the banking sector where he worked for 25 years, mostly dealing with both large and small firms.

He moved from the Channel Islands to the Tendring District last year.

“No ratepayer needs to make any arrangement with any firm. If they are unsure about the business rates they pay they should speak directly to the Council.”

One company has told people that they will be getting a bill from TDC in October and if they sign up with the firm they will get them out of paying.

The next bills are not due to be issued until March 2015 (unless there is a change in circumstances for a ratepayer).

Anyone wanting to call the TDC about their Business Rates should do so on 01255 686266.

NEWSDESKSFor further information on this press release contact Nigel Brown, Tendring District Council’s Communications Manager on 01255 686338.

Mick Page, Leader of TDC and Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Inward Investment and Asset Management, said that this is the first of three new posts he promised to create after becoming Leader of the Council.

“I would like to welcome Andy to the Council and the Regeneration Team. His role is further evidence of our commitment to supporting local businesses and to enabling the sustainable growth of our economy.” he said.“We are looking to follow this up with the appointment of a Harwich and Dovercourt Officer and a Funding Officer in the very near future.“Firms in Tendring can be assured that we are open for business – and that we mean business.”

Any company wanting to make contact with Mr Brouard can call him on 01255 686352 or by emailing [email protected]

Hidden GemBluebird Tearooms

15Issue 9 Autumn 2014

T he ladies have added a modern twist to make them stand out above the rest - the diners can enjoy homemade food from eggs

benedict or crumpets, to freshly baked cakes or luxury afternoon tea, and if they like the vintage shabby chic furniture they can buy that too!

Apart from a delicious range of cakes and lunches, they also offer a range of wheat, gluten & dairy free cakes & lunches.

The ladies explain that as they were restoring the furniture, “we thought that others may love to do this too, so we run classes teaching others how to restore their own furniture. As we sell the furniture and pictures, it keeps the surroundings fresh, and there is always something new for customers to look at.”

Laura & Sarah named the Bluebird Tearooms after the fond memories of their Mum & Nan telling all the family stories about a bluebird who was always the hero of the tales. And the name is bringing good fortune as Bluebird Tearooms have already taken lots of group bookings for luxury afternoon tea parties for occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries, baby showers, hen days & other special events. They are also developing a retail section and welcome interest from local traders who may make items suitable for selling in the Tearooms.

Secure Gorse Lane

An appeal has been launched to continue the upgrade of the ageing CCTV cameras and recording equipment on the Gorse Lane

Industrial Estate.

GCS Fire & Security who installed the original system on the estate back in 1998 have already begun by upgrading two strategic cameras and two of the recorders to a Digital Hi Definition System and have replaced all of the Security Signage around the Estate.

Managing Director Paul Dewing said “At least five more of these cameras could use the upgrade to make Gorse Lane more secure. We would like to appeal to the other businesses on the estate to help with the funding of these upgrades. We are happy to install and monitor the cameras and it would be really good if we got enough funding to upgrade all twelve which would provide even better security.”

He stated “We need £4,000 to £5,000 to purchase the equipment but would like to organise a night guard to monitor the cameras and patrol Gorse

Lane between 8.00pm - 6.00am from our offices in Stephenson Road. Working with our associate Company Oakpark Security, this level of security would be available from as little as £1.20* a day.”
