Two religious leaders I have deeprespect for have come to basically thesame position when it comes to votingpro-life though they have divergent theo-logical backgrounds. John Piper, recent-ly retired Senior Pastor (for more than 30years) of Bethlehem Baptist Church inMinneapolis, and Fr. Frank Pavone,National Director of Priests for Life, bothdraw the same conclusion.

In a nutshell, it is that a candidatewho supports the killing of innocenthuman beings through abortion and othermeans is not qualified to hold electedoffice. It doesn’t matter how good thisperson may be on every other issue if heor she supports abortion. And it doesn’tmatter the rhetorical language used toshow that support. The candidate is dis-qualified by supporting the killing ofinnocent human beings.

As Pastor Piper has stated, weacknowledge this disqualification withother issues. Should a candidate favorthe idea of legalizing domestic violence, for that single issue we would disqualifythat candidate. Fr. Pavone bluntly askshow we can trust someone with so littleregard for the most defenseless among uson any other issue.

Voting cannot be an option for useither. And we must vote pro-life. Fartoo many things related to the defense ofhuman life are in the hands of our elect-ed officials. This isn’t limited to staterepresentatives, statewide officials orthose running for federal offices. It in-cludes our city officials and those seek-ing public office on almost any level.

A prime example is the recent move ofa Planned Parenthood (PP) clinic that tar-gets the Latino community into the cityof Richfield, Minn. Though city officialsmay not have been legally able to pro-hibit this move, they could have made itdifficult instead of welcoming PP, and

certainly, they could have let it be knownto the pro-life community very early on,aiding our effort to stop the move.Schools boards are another prime exam-ple, often allowing their abortion ideolo-gy to become curriculum within theschool system.

The only way we can vote pro-life isto take the time to find out where thecandidates stand on the life issues. This is a good exercise in civic duty. Youneed to find out who is running for whatoffices. Ask questions of the candidates,go to their websites, get voter guidesfrom trusted organizations (see end ofarticle), and ask your neighbors or fellowchurch goers. This is the only “hard” partin the voting process.

Often candidates mask their abor-tion positions in an attempt to “fool”voters into selecting them. This is doneespecially if the district the candidate isrunning in tends to be or is strongly pro-life. A good example is a candidate forthe Minnesota House who states on hiswebsite, “But I’m not comfortable with aparty that . . . wants a government thatlegislates our relationships, our bed-

From the Executive Director, Brian Gibson . . .

rooms and our reproductive decisionsbased on their religious beliefs.” Ofcourse, his real position is that he is com-fortable with a party that does legislateour relationships, our bedrooms and ourreproductive decisions based on ideologycontrary to life and faith. The coded lan-guage of this candidate may sound goodto the uninformed, but he is really forfunding Planned Parenthood in its evilapproach to human sexuality, protectingthe killing of the unborn and not protect-ing traditional marriage.

Election Day is November 4. Ofcourse early voting and absentee votingis much sooner. Do the research, knowwhere and for whom to vote. And makesure you vote pro-life!

A solemn prayer service in honor ofthe 13 aborted babies buried in Resur-rection Cemetery, Mendota Heights,Minn., was conducted by Pro-Life ActionMinistries on Saturday, September 13.This memorial service, attended by about70 people, was part of the second annualNational Day of Remembrance forAborted Children, co-sponsored byCitizens for a Pro-Life Society, Priestsfor Life and the Pro-Life Action League.

Thousands of pro-lifers gathered at132 locations throughout the UnitedStates. Among these sites were 41 graveswhere the remains of aborted children areburied, with the grave in ResurrectionCemetery being one of the oldest burialsites.

More than 28,000 aborted babies havebeen given a proper burial at these sites, but they represent only a fraction of themore than 56 million children abortedsince the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wadeand Doe v. Bolton Supreme Court deci-sions in 1973, according to John Jansenof the Pro-Life Action League.

Guest speakers at these solemn memo-rial services included pro-life activists

who had rescued abortion victims’ bod-ies from dumpsters and pathology labs, women and men who regret choosingabortion, and Christian clergy of variousdenominations, including 10 Catholicbishops.

The 13 babies buried in ResurrectionCemetery were found in the trash dump-ster behind the Robbinsdale abortioncenter in Robbinsdale, Minn. in January1987.  Pro-Life Action Ministries madethis discovery known through a press

conference, followed by a funeral andburial for these precious babies. “Bybeing here today, we remember that withevery abortion there is a tiny, brokenbody as these little children, made in theimage and likeness of God, are killed,”said Brian Gibson, Executive Director ofPro-Life Action Ministries. He addedthat we also remember the parents ofthese children who may still be hurting

The Ugly Truth on a Sign Saves a Baby Years Later!

by Michele Herzog

I had the wonderful opportunity yes-terday to attend a baby shower for ayoung girl whom we met at the EPOCabortion facility here in Central Florida. No, she had not come to this center for anabortion; she, along with her mother, happened to be driving down the streetone day back in the spring and noticed agroup of us out during one of our “JesusLoves the Little Children” Days.

When they approached, we thoughtmaybe they could be coming for an abor-tion, but it turned out they wanted tothank us for being there! The momshared how years ago when they hadlived in that neighborhood, they woulddrive by and see people standing out infront of this abortion mill with signs, including pictures of the babies who had

died from abortion. She told us that theyaffected her children to the point of tearsat times.

Fast forward to the present as she thenshared with us that her 15-year-olddaughter came home one day and an-nounced the news that she was pregnant.Of course the mother was shocked, butbeing pro-life, she unwaveringly statedthat she would stand with and help herthrough this time. Others, though, wereencouraging and pressuring the girl tohave an abortion, to the point that sheeven made an appointment!

But, as the days went on, this younglady was haunted by the pictures on thesigns she had seen on a continual basiswhen she was younger. She kept think-ing about them and finally realized that

National Sidewalk Counseling Symposium Recap:“You never fail when you go out to the abortion clinic.”

by Sarah Howell CEC for Life

Pro-Life Action Ministries held its 4thAnnual National Sidewalk CounselingSymposium here in Birmingham, Ala.August 8-9. CEC For Life was blessed toact as local host.

The Symposium featured an all-starline-up of speakers including Joe andAnn Scheidler, Fr. Frank Pavone, EricScheidler, Rev. Walter Hoye, Fr. TerryGensemer, John Jakubczyk and BrianGibson, along with many other expertsidewalk counselors and advocates —Edmund Miller, Alicia Wong, MicheleHerzog, Rev. Brian Walker and DebraBraun.

With each session and workshop, attendees were given the tools andknowledge needed to stand on the side-walk with confidence and integrity, andto represent the mercy and love of Christto mothers, fathers, and abortion clinicworkers. As Eric Scheidler put it, “Younever fail when you go out to the abor-tion clinic. Failure is impossible if you’rethere with Christ.”

Beyond offering solid how-to training, the Symposium also addressed what Fr.Frank Pavone called “the spirituality ofthe pro-life activist.” This focus present-ed sidewalk counseling not just as a pro-life ministry, but also as an earnestanswer to every Christian’s call to sharethe Gospel.

In the Symposium’s opening serviceon Friday night, Fr. Pavone explained,“In the culture of death you say, ‘I have aresponsibility to those whom I choose tohave a responsibility,’ but in the cultureof life we have a responsibility withoutchoosing, before we ever have a chanceto choose . . . . Pro-life activist spirituali-ty is marked by a deep compassion.”

Saturday’s first session—Purpose,Focus and Essence of Sidewalk Counsel-ing—reinforced this concept with sea-soned counselor Edmund Miller sharing,“If you are serious about being the pres-ence of Christ, you will end up at theabortion mill.”

CEC For Life and the local Birming-ham pro-life community could not agreemore, and we would like to extend ourmost sincere thanks to Brian Gibson for

bringing the Symposium to our city. What an encouragement as we continueour local work of shutting down PP andpreparing for 40 Days for Life.

“The 2014 Symposium was truly inspir-ing. The witness of famous national pro-life leaders in their sacrifice of time, treasure and experience was both infor-mative and energizing.” —Ed Carrick,Birmingham 40 Days for Life

“I appreciated learning about all of thelegal battles and where we are on them.It helps us stand up to the negative forcesand combat misinformation. The sympo-sium also helped show the bigger pic-ture—all of the forces that are united forlife, and what those different parties do,which gives an overall feeling ofstrength.” —Gwyn Moore, BirminghamSidewalk Counselor

“What a tremendous blessing to meetand hear the wisdom of the top pro-lifeleaders in the country! It was also a greatopportunity to meet sidewalk counselorsfrom several other states!” —Mary AnnVann, Birmingham Sidewalk Counselor

* In early September, a young womanarriving by cab at the St. Paul PlannedParenthood was dropped off at the frontdoor, so the sidewalk counselor had agreat opportunity to talk with her. Theyoung woman had considered adoption, but said she didn’t see how she could“carry the baby for nine months and thengive it away.” The sidewalk counselorencouraged her to stay outside PP whileshe called for additional help. Shereached a staff member at our office whospoke with the young woman for about10 minutes and then offered to take herand the sidewalk counselor to a pregnan-cy help center (the sidewalk counselordoesn’t have a car). The young womanmet with a counselor at the pregnancyhelp center, received some material itemsand made an appointment for an ultra-sound. She lives near the center and rightdown the street from a pro-life churchthat the staff member is familiar with andwhich she said she’s been interested inattending. Praise God for this life saved!

* In May, we started intense and delib-erate worship warfare, and three babieshave been confirmed saved from thekillers’ knife in abortion.

In the most recent case, Allison, Julieand Jim worshiped the Lord and prayedpowerfully unto Jesus on one side whileon the other side I prayed with worship inthanksgiving. A couple pulled up but left;we noticed the girl crying. After awhilethey parked a little down the street. Godgave the sidewalk counselors just theright words of help to the parents forfinancial needs and encouragement of theprecious life they carry. The father agreedand said he was torn up inside but saidthey would be kicked out of the house ifhis fiancée got pregnant again, since theyalready have a 4-month-old.

We told him, "Satan is a killer, but Godis a God of Life and mercy. You can trustHim to take care of your needs and youwon't have to live with the pain and guiltof killing your own baby. Would you killyour 4-month-old? There is no differencein abortion, this baby is a person too." Heagreed.

Please pray for abortionist RandallWhitney, now in his 80s, as he continueson his path of the destruction of inno-cent life. He has been in the business ofkilling little baby boys and girls formany, many years now, with people con-tinually praying and reaching out to himwith the gospel of Christ during thistime. The Lord only knows how manybabies have died at his hands. Pleasejoin us here in Central Florida prayingthat Mr. Whitney will repent of the shed-ding of innocent blood and turn his heartto Christ, the only true Savior.

Listing AbortionistsA hallmark of our ministry has been

confronting the evil of abortion with thelove of Christ. This approach has in-cluded publicly identifying who theabortionists (and pro-abortion leaders)are. The practice of placing the namesof abortionists in this newsletter has atwofold purpose: to ask for your heart-felt prayers for the conversion of thoselisted and to inform you so that you arenot patients of those committing abor-tions.

The criteria for placing someone onthis list is that the individual is directlyinvolved in committing abortions andthat this can be reasonably verified. We

Is Your Doctor Involved in Abortions?Does Your Doctor PrescribeAbortifacient Birth Control?

Ask your own doctor if he/she doesabortions or refers for them, or pre-scribes abortifacients such as the Pill,Ortho Evra (the “patch”), Depo-Provera(the “shot”), Nuva-Ring, the “morning-after pill,” implants, or the IUD. Allthese methods (and others) can causevery early abortions by thinning the lin-ing of the uterus so that if breakthroughovulation occurs (which it sometimesdoes) and a new life is conceived, theyoung human being may not be able toattach to the uterine lining and thereforehe or she dies. These methods can alsobe very dangerous, even deadly, to thewoman. If you would like to go to acompletely pro-life physician, we have arecently updated list of such doctors.Call (651) 771-1500.

Medical Students for Human Life (MSHL)has existed at the University of Minnesota (UMN)for several years. Begun by Jonathon Scrafford,MD, who is now an OB/GYN resident at theUniversity, its purpose is to advocate in a generalsense for the high value of life at all stages. “Weare not solely concerned with abortion, althoughthat is the issue that garners most of our atten-tion,” said Caleb Murphy, current President ofMSHL. “Being at a medical school, the strategieswe use to advance our mission often involve sci-entific or medical principles.”

The primary activity of MSHL is planninglunch lectures for the medical school student

least approved, the list would go: embry-onic stem cell (ESC) research, abortion, euthanasia, then infanticide. A vast ma-jority of medical students support fewerlegal restrictions on both ESC researchand abortion. Also, through the next de-cade or two, there will probably be in-creasing support from the medical com-munity for legalized euthanasia in certainsituations. Students and residents are notrequired to assist with abortions, althoughsuch a stance can, and does, impact thechances a student will be accepted into anOB/GYN residency program.”

As for opposition to his pro-life groupfrom other medical students, Caleb said,“Thankfully, there isn’t very much emo-tional, angry, insulting opposition. Mostof us medical students are quite friendlywith each other. We are an ideologicallydiverse bunch. There are appropriatetimes for us to debate and be passionate, but those times usually come outside theconfines of the school day. What MSHLdoes experience a good deal of is subtledisapproval. I get some weird looks frompeople when they find out I’m pro-life.”

Caleb encourages pro-lifers to devel-op their medical knowledge as much aspossible. “For much of the general popu-lace, support of a particular issue dependsheavily, if not wholly, on the presence oflogical, scientific reasons behind theissue,” he said. “It might be scary to try tolearn medical terms and concepts, espe-cially if your education and life experi-ences are in an arena entirely separatefrom the natural sciences. But if you cantalk with some degree of medical compe-tence, you might be able to sway someonewho would have otherwise been unreach-able.”

Signs Save a Baby Years Later (from page 3)

she could not do that to her baby! Thepictures on those signs of the innocentlittle ones who had died the painful andbrutal death of abortion saved this baby’slife!

They joined us another time at one ofour “Jesus Loves the Little Children”Days and then yesterday was the babyshower and what a glorious celebrationof life it was with this young lady sur-rounded by family and her "Life" friendsas her mother calls us!

I want to thank those who stoodunashamedly in front of the EPOC abor-

tion facility many years ago holding signsshowing the ugly truth of what abortionreally is—the destruction of those inno-cent little victims. Yes, these picturesaren't pretty, but they are the truth, andthe truth is what sets us free!

There is a lot of controversy, even inthe pro-life community, on the use ofthese pictures, but for me, throughout theyears, I have seen so many babies savedand alive today because of these pictures.Let us never, ever, be afraid of sharing thetruth!
