TemperatureFeeling hot, hot, hot….
TemperatureTemperature – a measurement of how much
kinetic energy the particles contain
Three scales used to measure Temperature:
Fahrenheit Scale•The Fahrenheit Scale was the first invented but is no longer used in science because it goes against the metric system
Celsius ScaleOn the Celsius scale:
•Freezing point of pure water is 0oC
•Boiling point of pure water is 100oC
Kelvin Scale•This is the SI scale used to measure temperature
•“O” is not used with Kelvins
•This scale’s lowest temperature is ZERO.
Converting from Celsius to Kelvin…
K = oC + 273
Absolute Zero•Absolute zero is the lowest possible temperature. It is the temperature at which all motion of particles stop.
• Absolute Temp Video
• Will it ever be possible to STOP all motion of a particle?
