Tema-‐Ouagadougou Corridor Road Governance Report
Mars 2013
2
1. Introduction
Road Harassment on the Tema-‐Ouagadougou corridor has been documented by the UEMOA/USAID Trade Hub Road Governance initiative since October 1st 2006.
The corridor is 1057 km long of which 881 km is in Ghana and 176 in Burkina Faso
In 2012, a study by the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) found 757 km of the road in good condition, and 150 km in fair condition and 150 km in bad condition.
The same study registered traffic level of 250 trucks per day at the Paga-‐Dakola border of which 60% were heavy trucks.
All the following graphs are based on data collected from truck drivers through the Road Governance Initiative, also known as l’Observatoire des pratiques anormales, or OPA, for short
2. Truck utilization and travel time
Note: Total time, or turnaround, around time includes waiting time for loading at departure, travel time and waiting time a destination. “Travel time” is the time it takes a truck to drive from origin, say a port, to destination, say Ougainter, the inland terminal in Ouagadougou
