LAST WORK ET LE GAGAOhad Naharin explore une fascinante conception de l’art chorégraphique, mêlant le charme à répétition, une esthétique rigoureuse, une technique intransigeante, un humour décalé et la lumière de la spiritualité. Last Work exprime la continuelle recherche de Naharin et des danseurs de la Batsheva pour déployer la dimension humaniste inhérente au corps en mouvement. L’œuvre s’inspire clairement du Gaga, ce langage du mouvement, unique à Naharin, qui constitue la base de la pratique quotidienne de ses danseurs.

Le Gaga est une nouvelle façon d’acquérir la connaissance et la conscience de soi à travers le corps. Le Gaga fournit un cadre pour comprendre et renforcer le corps, en augmenter la souplesse, l’endurance et l’agilité, tout en éclairant les sens et l’imagination. Le Gaga accroît la conscience des faiblesses physiques, éveille les zones engourdies, met en lumière les automatismes physiques et fournit les moyens pour les éliminer. Ce travail enrichit les mouvements instinctifs, relie les mouvements conscients et inconscients, permettant ainsi une expérience de la liberté et du plaisir grâce à des moyens simples : un espace agréable, des vêtements confortables, de la musique – chaque personne présente à elle-même et aux autres.

LAST WORK AND GAGAOhad Naharin explores a compelling choreographic vision that combines recurrent magnetism, a rigorous aesthetic, uncompromising technique, offbeat humour, and spiritual enlightenment. Last Work is an expression of Naharin and Batsheva dancers’ continuing research of the humanistic aspect inherent in the body’s movement. It clearly draws on Gaga, the unique movement research developed by Naharin that forms the basis of his dancers’ daily practice.

Gaga is a new way of gaining knowledge and self-awareness through the body. Gaga provides a framework for discovering and strengthening the body and adding flexibility, stamina, and agility while lightening the senses and imagination. Gaga raises awareness of physical weaknesses, awakens numb areas, exposes physical fixations, and offers ways for their elimination. The work improves instinctive movement and connects conscious and unconscious movement, and it allows for an experience of freedom and pleasure in a simple way, in a pleasant space, in comfortable clothes, accompanied by music, each person with himself and others.

C’est avec un plaisir renouvelé que nous accueillons pour une troisième fois depuis 2004 la Batsheva Dance Company et son directeur artistique, Ohad Naharin, ce chorégraphe parmi les plus novateurs de notre époque, dont l’immense talent surprend le public à chacune de ses nouvelles créations.

On reconnait une compagnie d’exception à ce que son identité gestuelle ne se confonde avec aucune autre. De décennie en décennie, Ohad Naharin affirme et raffine son phrasé chorégraphique en fusionnant esthétique rigoureuse, exigence technique et élévation spirituelle. Avec Last Work, il pousse encore plus loin cet esprit de communion qui unit ses danseurs comme dans un rituel collectif.

OHAD NAHARIN ET LA BATSHEVA DANCE COMPANYNé en 1952 dans le kibboutz Mizra en Israël, Ohad Naharin commence sa formation en danse avec la Batsheva Dance Company à l’âge de 22 ans. Moins d’un a plus tard, il est remarqué par la chorégraphe new-yorkaise Martha Graham qui l’invite à joindre sa compagnie. À New York, Naharin étudie à la School of American Ballet et à la Juilliard School. Il poursuit sa carrière avec la Bat-Dor Dance Company d’Israël et avec le Ballet du XXe siècle de Maurice Béjart, à Bruxelles.

Naharin retourne à New York en 1980, où il fait ses débuts comme chorégraphe avec le studio Kazuko Hirabayashi. La même année, il fonde la Ohad Naharin Dance Company avec sa femme Mari Kajiwara (décédée en 2001). De 1980 à 1990, sa compagnie se produit à New York et dans le monde et jouit d’un grand succès critique. Son style incisif ainsi que son ouverture à tout ce qui touche à l’humain, à toutes les cultures et formes d’art (il est également musicien) et de mouvement, lui ont donné une réputation de rebelle et une aura particulière.

Son approche caractéristique est de « repousser les limites » de la danse. Chorégraphe parmi les plus recherchés de son époque, Ohad Naharin a créé des œuvres pour des compagnies de renom telles que la Batsheva Dance Company, la Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company et le Nederlands Dans Theater.

Revenant aux sources, Naharin devient directeur artistique de la Batsheva Dance Company en 1990. Au cours de son mandat, il a chorégraphié plus de 30 œuvres pour la Batsheva et sa division junior, le Jeune Ensemble Batsheva. Parallèlement à son travail pour la scène, Naharin a élaboré une méthode originale, Gaga, une forme de pratique corporelle innovatrice qui explore la sensation et la disponibilité dans le mouvement. Les danseurs de la Batsheva Dance Company s’entrainent sur une base quotidienne avec le Gaga, qui est également enseigné au grand public.

OHAD NAHARIN AND BATSHEVA DANCE COMPANYBorn in 1952 on Kibbutz Mizra, Israel, Ohad Naharin began his dance training at age 22 with Batsheva Dance Company. During his first year with the company, guest choreographer Martha Graham invited him to join her own company in New York. While there, Naharin studied at the School of American Ballet and The Juilliard School, and went on to perform with Israel’s Bat-Dor Dance Company and Maurice Béjart’s Ballet du XXe siècle in Brussels.

Naharin returned to New York in 1980 and made his choreographic debut at the Kazuko Hirabayashi studio. That same year, together with his first wife, Mari Kajiwara (who died in 2001), he founded the Ohad Naharin Dance Company. For the next decade the company performed to great acclaim in New York and internationally. Naharin’s incisive style and his openness to everything that is human, to all cultures and art forms (he is also a musician), and to all manner of movement have earned him a reputation as a rebel and given him a special aura. His characteristic approach is to “push the limits” of dance. Much sought after, he has created works for such prestigious companies as Batsheva, the Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company and Nederlands Dans Theater.

Returning to his roots, Naharin was appointed artistic director of Batsheva Dance Company in 1990. During his tenure he has choreographed over 30 works for Batsheva and its junior division, Batsheva – the Young Ensemble. Alongside his work as a choreographer, he developed Gaga, an innovative movement research that explores sensation and availability in movement. The dancers of Batsheva Dance Company train with Gaga on a daily basis, and it is also taught to the public.

YAEL BEN EZER est née en 1995 à Tel-Aviv. Elle a étudié à l’École des Arts de Tel-Aviv et est diplômé du département de danse d’Alon High School. Matan serves in the IDF as a privileged outstanding dancer. Matan joined Batsheva – The Young Ensemble in 2013 and Batsheva Dance Company in 2016.

OMRI DRUMLEVICH est né au kibboutz Ramat Rachel en 1992. Il a dansé avec Mehola Jérusalem et a étudié à l’Académie de musique et de danse de Jérusalem. HSIN-Yi HSIANG est née à Taiwan en 1983. Elle a obtenu son baccalauréat ès arts en danse de l’Université de l’Illinois où elle a obtenu des bourses d’études pendant quatre ans. Hsin-Yi a déménagé à New York et a joint LeeSaar, The Company de 2007 à 2014. Elle intégré le Jeune Ensemble Batsheva puis la Batsheva Dance Company en 2014.

HSIN-Yi HSIANG was born in Taiwan in 1983. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where she was awarded scholarships for four years. Hsin-Yi relocated to New York City and joined LeeSaar, The Company from 2007-2014. She joined Batsheva – The Young Ensemble and later Batsheva Dance Company in 2014.

RANI LEBZELTER est née en Israël en 1989. Elle a étudié à l’École Bustan des Arts du spectacle à Netanya. En 2009-2010, Rani a été formée à l’atelier du danseur au Kibbutz Ga’aton. Elle a rejoint le Jeune Ensemble Batsheva en 2001 et la Batsheva Dance Company en 2003. Rachael Osborne a dansé dans la compagnie L-E-V de Sharon Eyal de 2012 à 2014 et a mis en scène les œuvres d’Ohad Naharin dans des compagnies du monde entier.

RACHAEL OSBORNE was born in Australia in 1980. She is a graduate of Queensland University of Technology (1999) in Brisbane, Australia and was a member of The World Dance Company (2000) in Brisbane. She joined Batsheva – The Young Ensemble in 2001 and Batsheva Dance Company in 2003. Rachael Osborne danced in Sharon Eyal’s company L-E-V from 2012 to 2014 and has staged Ohad Naharin’s works in companies around the world.

NITZAN RESSLER est née à Jérusalem en 1992. Enfant, elle dansait avec Hora Jerusalem et étudiait à l’école secondaire Jerusalem Academy for Music and Dance. Elle est récipiendaire de la bourse d’éducation 2008-2010 de la Fondation culturelle israélo-américaine. Elle a rejoint le Jeune Ensemble Batsheva en 2010 et la Batsheva Dance Company en 2012.

NITZAN RESSLER was born in Jerusalem in 1992. As a child she danced with Hora Jerusalem and studied at the Jerusalem Academy for Music and Dance High School. Nitzan is the recipient of the 2008-2010 Israel-America Cultural Foundation education scholarship. She joined Batsheva – The Young Ensemble in 2010 and Batsheva Dance Company in 2012.

IAN ROBINSON est né aux États-Unis en 1985. Il est diplômé de l’Université de New York et a dansé avec Hell’s Kitchen Dance de Mikhaïl Baryshnikov, Complexions Contemporary Ballet, BJM - Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal, Sydney Dance Company et Aszure Barton & Artists. IAN ROBINSON was born in the U.S. in 1985. Ian joined Batsheva Dance Company in 2009.

MAAYAN SHEINFELD was born in 1992. She graduated from the Thelma Yellin High School for the Arts. Maayan is the recipient of the 2007-2010 Sharet Fund scholarship. She participated in a summer dance courses in Prague, Salzburg and New York’s Juilliard School and joined Batsheva – The Young Ensemble in 2010 and Batsheva Dance Company in 2012

YONI (YONATAN) SIMON est né en 1995 et est diplômé du département de danse à l’école secondaire Ironi Alef à Tel-Aviv. Il a participé au Programme d’excellence de Batsheva en 2011-2014 ainsi qu’au Programme d’excellence de la Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company en 2011-2012 et a été récipiendaire d’une bourse de cours d’été à l’American Academy of Ballet en 2013. Il sert dans les ADI. Il a intégré le Jeune Ensemble Batsheva comme apprenti en 2014 et comme danseur en 2015 et a rejoint la Batsheva Dance Company en 2016.

YONI (YONATAN) SIMON was born in 1995 and is a graduate of the dance department at the Ironi Alef High School in Tel Aviv. During his studies, he participated in a student exchange program with the de Kunsthumaniora school in Belgium. Yoni participated in the Batsheva Excellence Program in 2011-2014 as well as in the Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company Excellence Program in 2011-2012. He was the recipient of a full scholarship to the American Academy of Ballet Summer Course in 2013. Yoni serves in the IDF as a privileged outstanding dancer. Yoni joined Batsheva – The Young Ensemble as an apprentice in 2014 and as a dancer in 2015. He joined Batsheva Dance Company in 2016.

ZINA (NATALYA) ZINCHENKO est née à Moscou en 1987. Elle a commencé à danser à l’école de danse contemporaine de Nikolay Ogryzkov (1999-2004) et est diplômée de l’Académie de Danse de Rotterdam (Codarts) en 2007. Elle a dansé avec Galili Dance (2006-2009), Noord Nederlandse Dans (2009-2011). Elle a intégré le Jeune Ensemble Batsheva en 2011 et la Batsheva Dance Company en 2012.

ZINA (NATALYA) ZINCHENKO was born in Moscow in 1987. She started dancing at the contemporary dance school of Nikolay Ogryzkov (1999-2004). Zina graduated from Rotterdam Dance Academy (Codarts) in 2007. She danced with Galili Dance (2006-2009), Noord Nederlandse Dans (2009-2011). She joined Batsheva – The Young Ensemble in 2011 and Batsheva Dance Company in 2012.

ADI ZLATIN est née en Israël en 1983. Elle a étudié à l’Académie de Musique et Danse de Jérusalem de 1996 à 2001. Adi a rejoint le Jeune Ensemble Batsheva en 2001 et la Batsheva Dance Company en 2004.

Danse Danse poursuit son alliance avec le complexe l’Arsenal, haut lieu de l’art contemporain, afin d’offrir des résidences de création par l’entremise du programme Créateur en mouvement.

Tout le mois de janvier, Anne Le Beau et Dave St-Pierre investissent les lieux avec Bernard Martin, Hubert Proulx, Stéfan Boucher, Marc Parent, Hubert Leduc et Alex Huot.

Cette résidence leur offrira un espace de création afin de poursuivre leur travail pour le spectacle suie qui sera présenté à Danse Danse en février prochain. Une occasion de découvrir les étapes du travail et d’échanger avec les artistes.

DANSE DANSE AT ARSENAL IN JANUARY

Danse Danse continues its partnership with Arsenal, a dynamic center for contemporary art, in offering creative residencies to artists with the program Créateur en mouvement.

Throughout the month of January, Anne Le Beau and Dave St-Pierre are occupying the space with Bernard Martin, Hubert Proulx, Stéfan Boucher, Marc Parent, Hubert Leduc and Alex Huot.

This residency will provide a creative space where they can continue to work on the production suie, which Danse Danse will present next February. An opportunity to meet the artists and discover a work in progress.
