Tee Talk – November 2014
Page 1
From the President
I am pleased to report
that due to the hard
work of Charley Temple
and George Stevenson
not only does the golf
course look great, but
there is no odor from
the pond. Great job,
guys!
The course is filling up
with Snowbirds starting
to return. I know George
& Charley are working on
some ways to keep the
pace of play reasonable
and offer as much
opportunity to golf as
possible.
Our AGM is set for
Saturday, January 24th.
Our golfing community
relies on volunteers to
pitch in. Debbie
Thompson is heading up
the committee to find
candidates to run for
the board. You could
always throw your hat in
the ring by e-mailing
Debbie at:
deborahthompson104@y
mail.com Be sure to
include a biographic
paragraph.
The Budget Committee
has met once to start
the process for what will
become the budget we
will present at the AGM.
Randy Cooper does an
enormously good job. He
will be sorely missed as
he comes off the board
in January and moves
back north of the
border.
You might wonder
exactly what the
president does on a daily
basis. I meet with Ester
Solanoz, our Club’s legal
representative. She
gives me advice,
background and
information. If the issue
is simple, I make the
decisions. If it is a bit
more complex, then I
refer it to the executive
committee. I am blessed
to have two past CCC
presidents in my
executive committee.
They have had a wealth
of information that has
been very helpful.
I am going to close with
some personal
information. Peggy and I
took an odd path to golf.
Our background is in
hiking and back packing.
The big ethic of hikers
is, “Take nothing but
photos and leave nothing
but footprints”.
My number one pet
peeve? Litter on the
golf course. If I were to
focus in on a type of
litter it would be
cigarette butts around
the greens and in the
sand traps. From my
Tee Talk
point of view, if you
brought onto the course
then you can dispose of
it properly. You will see
me picking up litter as I
golf, but I draw the line
at cigarette butts. Part
of what I think when I
pick up a candy wrapper
is,” Whose job is it to
pick up litter”? If you
like the golf course, I
end up thinking, it is
everyone’s job.
Rodney Brooks
President, Chapala
Country Club Board of
Directors

- A golf gift given to
you at Christmas by a
non-golfer is always
unsuitable.
- Always concede the
fourth putt.
- Delicate chip shots
over bunkers always
catch the top of the
bank and fall back.
- Golf is the only game
in which you fail to win
99 per cent of the
time.
- If a good course is
one where you play to
your handicap or
better and a bad
course is one where
you struggle to break
100, why are there so
many bad courses?
- If there is one solitary
tree located on a hole,
your ball will find it
with unerring
accuracy.
- The fact that trees
are ninety per cent air
does not mean your
ball avoid the
remaining ten per cent
of timber.
- The sand in the
bunkers is never the
right texture for your

AGM Nominations Notice
The Annual General Meeting of the CCC Golf Club is January 24, 2015. As a member of the Nominating Team for next year’s Board of Directors at the Club, I would like to offer you this opportunity to stand for next year’s Board.
There is a need to inject new people into the Board bringing their skill sets from a previous life, i.e. accounting, administration, social, golf, etc.
Being a Board member requires you to attend the monthly Board of Directors meeting held at the Club. At this meeting policy and procedures are voted on and approved.
The most important thing is that, should you be elected, you will be in a position to make a significant contribution to the running of the Club…your Club.
Please give this request some considerable thought before making your decision.
It would be my pleasure to add your name to the list of nominees. The deadline to submit your name is December 1, 2014.
If you have any questions, please call me or a committee member.
Regards,
Deborah J. Thompson, Chair 766-5728
Rob Edwards 763-5037

Putting Contest
THANK YOU TO ALL THE MEMBERS AND STAFF OF THE COUNT RY CLUB DE CHAPALA
The 11th Cruz Roja Golf Classic was an enormous success due to your generosity and hard work. All it takes for a successful tournament are sportsman-like players, a terrific golf course, great food, lots of volunteers and maybe just a few prizes (some imbibable). WE HAD IT ALL!
Special thanks to the Board members and managers, Ramiro Barajas, Mauricio Aguirre and Javier Flores who all gave 110% to ensure everything worked just right. A special culinary treat, homemade European style sausages were supplied by Bruce Sondergaard and put an excellent Bar-B-Q over the top. Thank you, Bruce!
In short, Cruz Roja Chapala and the entire Lakeside community will be benefitting from this event, Hope you had a good time and we”ll see you next year!

KIDS AND THEIR FUTURE
Forty-one students are hard at work in their respective levels of education, enjoying the support of generous members of the Country Club de Chapala. This academic year, the KIDS AND THEIR FUTURE Fund is helping defray the educational costs for students beginning with kinder through university level work. In June, Luis Antonio Aceves Rosales, son of accountant Antonio Aceves, graduates from the University of Guadalajara with a degree in Tourism. The fund continues to support a chef in training, son of Eduardo Navarro, and has provided support for Benito Vasquez Barajas’ daughter as she prepares for a career in the airline industry. The education committee is proud of the young people it sponsors.
We continue our appeal for greater help from the membership at large. We have lost three of our most generous donors through moves back to the U S or Canada. Our major fund raiser THE AMIGO CUP is on the calendar for late March. More details will be forthcoming as the date draws nearer.
The Employees Christmas Party will be on December 13. Why not stop in and meet some of the students that your contributions support? Also, please keep our fund in mind as an appropriate and meaningful way to memorialize a friend or family member who has died. We note in sadness the recent death of retired educator Jeannie McCallum, a strong supporter of our endeavors to make it possible for kids to start and stay in school.
Address any questions or concerns to education committee members, Read Vawter, Mike Garvey, Brooke and Fran Reidelberger, Bob and Margaret Skinner, and our newest member, Marilyn Edwards.
