  • LOCATION AND ACCESS

The property lies at Lat 48 042' Long 87 0 47' at Spawn Lake in Irwin Township some 15 km north-east of Beardmore, Ontario (figs, l and 2). The gravelled Windigokan Road strikes north through the west end of the property at about 6 km. north from Hwy. li.

    PROPERTY

The property consists of one 15 unit claim No. TB1232272 situated in Irwin Township (Fig. 3). It is wholly 10007o owned by Ted Cox of Beardmore, Ontario

    Page 2

  • REGIONAL GEOLOGY AND SETTING

The property Lies in the Beardmore-Geraldton Metasedimentary -metavolcanic belt within the southern part of the Wabigoon sub province of the Canadian Shield. Numerous gold occurrences and some fifteen past gold producers lie within this belt, several in sediments and oxide facies iron formation, such as the Macleod Cockshutt Mine in Geraldton which produced 1,366,404 ounces of gold between 1938 and 1970. Mackasey's 1976 mapping shows a similar iron formation passing east-west through the present (1999) property (Fig. 4). This iron formation was also mapped on the property (Map l, D. A. Panagapko, July 1999) and a part was exposed by back hoe trenching, power washed and mapped in October 1999 (Plate l, Lassila 1999).

    Page 3

  • PROPERTY GEOLOGY

Mapping by Mackasey (1976) and further detailed mapping by Panagapko in 1999 show the property area to be underlain by east-west trending oxide iron formation and feldspathic wacke and silt stone in the north half of the property and mainly massive andesitic flows in the south half (Fig 4 and Map 1).

Backhoe trenching near the back hoe road exposed moderate to intense anchorite carbonatization of feldspathic wacke sandstone and silt stone at several locations (Map l and Plate 2).

The jasper-hematite banded iron formation is described by Mackasey (1976) as follows:

"This property has two main exposures of iron formation, one at the east end of Spawn Lake and the other at the west end of Still Lake. The iron formation consists of several iron-rich units about l foot to 10 feet (0.3-.3 m) thick that are composed of thin beds of argillite, fine-grained sandstone, hematite, and minor amounts of chert and jasper. Little or no magnetite is present. The iron-rich units are interstratified with grey weathered argillite and fine grained sandstone. Both exposures are bounded by swampy ground and water to the north, and by swamp and outcrops of massive, medium-grained sandstone to the south.

A 30 to 40 foot (9-12 m) wide strip of the Spawn Lake exposure has been bulldozed off for a distance of approximately 700 feet (200 m) along strike. Here bedding strikes N80W and dips 75 degrees north and is cut by vertical-dipping slaty cleavage striking N80E. Delicate laminations are well preserved in the iron-rich beds. Results of analyses by the Mineral Research Branch, Ontario Division of Mines, of a selected grab sample collected from a test pit and a chip sample taken over a 10 food (3 m) width, both collected by the field party, are given in Table 4.

The Still Lake exposure indicated that here the iron formation has a strike length of 3000 feet (900 m). Here the rocks strike due east and dip 75 degrees north."

    Page 4

  • The iron formation was backhoe trenched just west of Still Lake in October 1999 at the locations (Map l and Plate 1). Here the indicated width of the formation is at least 100m.

This excellent exposure clearly exhibits a folded, generally easterly plunging synclinal complexly folded structure. The north two thirds of the exposure contains exquisitely beautifully coloured light brownish to bright red thin hematite and jasper as linear inter bands and complexly folded contortions. On the south part lies a part rusty pyritic siliceous zone with hematite-jasper and cherty chalcedony like admixtures. Enclosed are several massive synclinally folded easterly plunging massive pyrite bands dip to 40 cm thick as well as irregularly patched massive pyritic clots. At one location northerly striking tension fractures up to 10 cm thick are filled with white quartz and clots of coarse grained specular hematite.

Several blast pits containing massive pyrite were sampled for gold but returned insignificant gold values.

  • ASSAYS

At Trench #7 a rusty float containing a 2 cm seam of pyrite and pyrite blebs in a completely altered serecite breccia returned 34 ppb au, 38 ppb Ag, 240 ppm Cu, 19 ppm Pb and 143 ppm Zinc (Samples 24012, 24011, 24010: Cert. #9W2863 RGI).

Six samples of massive pyrite from trench 8 returned the best assay of 19 ppb in gold (Samples 24013 through 24018: Cert. 9W-2916-RGI).

Nine other samples from various locations on the property, sampled, returned values ranging from 0.01 g/t to 0.08 g/t in gold (Samples 24001 through 24009: Cert. 9W-1928-RAI 8t 9w-2096-RAl).

All 18 samples were assayed by Swastika Laboratories of Swastika, Ontario.

  • PREVIOUS WORK

The earliest recorded work on the Property, Claim TB1232272 was recorded by Mackasey (1976 Geological Report 122, pages 41,42 and 43). Following is his full transcript of his report on this 1966 work by Algoma Steel Corporation Limited.

THE ALGOMA STEEL CORPORATION LIMITED (15, IS)

The Algoma Steel Corporation Limited maintained two properties in Irwin Township in 1967. Patented claim HF11 was held in good standing during the 1967 field seaton. This claim is in the southwestern corner of Irwin Township, near Schnob Lake, and a reported to contain a small occurrence of jasper and magnetite (Harris 9t ut. 1924, p. 185).

The option agreement between the Algoma Steel Corporation Limited and Mrs. Emma Rentz, E B. Rent*, and G. P. BoWue covered claims TB116734 to TB116759, TB120243 and TB120244, and TB123214 to TB123217. This property has two main exposures of iron formation, one at the east end of Spawn Lake and the other at the

The Still Lake exposure indicates that here die iron formation has a strike length of 3,000 feet (900 m). Here the rocks strike due east and dip 73 degrees north. Photo 22 chows one of the higher grade sections.

Three diamond drill holes with a total footage of 1,045 feet (320 m) were com pleted by die Algoma Steel Corporation Limited in 1966 (ODM files, Toronto). One hole was drilled to the south at a location just northeast of the Spawn Lake exposure and intersected over 200 feet (60 m) of iron formation along with thin byers of inter bedded argillaceous sedimentary rocks. The remaining two holes were drilled on the Still Lake exposure in a northerly direction. Analytical results for the drilling program were not reported to the Division.

    43

Prago Resources and Energy Inc. held the ground in 1984 and 1985. They drilled seven diamond drill holes. These holes are widely spaced and are just north of the contact along the iron formation. Hole #1 and #2 cut anomalous gold values. These holes are west and roughly on strike of the gold occurrence documented on Map No. 45a by Bruce and laird (1936).

  • EXPLORATION PROGRAM

During June 1999 prospecting was conducted and a baseline was chain sawed and picketed from which compassed, hip chained and flagged north-south lines were established. In late June - early July 1999 D. A. Panagapko conducted 117 km of detailed mapping over these lines (Map D.

Eight assay samples were also taken at this time from mineralized locations (Map 1).

During late September to early October 1999, backhoe trenching was completed in 12 trenches. Nine trenches were dug along strike of a heavily anchorite carbonatized zone in an attempt to locate gold-bearing quartz along this zone (Plate 2). Three trenches were completed to investigate the jasper - hematite iron formation just east of Still Lake (Plate 2). Three trenches (Trenches #5, 6 and 8) were power washed. Locations of heavy pyrite mineralization were plugger drilled, blasted and sampled for assay (6 samples) on Trench #8 (Plate 1).

All the trenches were mapped on October l, 3 and 5,1999 by Penti Lassila.

  • PROSPECTING SUMMARY

Prospecting began on the Spawn Lake project in June in the southern portion of the claim in the area of the Prago #1 and #2 diamond drill holes. South of DD#2 there is a sheared mafic volcanic, very sparsely mineralized (DL sheet 1). Further east along strike there is a feldspar porphyry dyke. No samples were taken.

Further prospecting in the south-central portion located three old trenches (DL sheet 2). Repeated traverses on strike in both directions could not find anything to justify the trenches. No quartz or mineralization was evident, even in the trenches. The trenches were thought to be on strike of something; however, long range traverses did not result in discoveries of any kind. An access was ribboned to this area for future investigation by backhoe.(DL sheet 3).

A baseline location was established and turned off (DL sheet 3). A bad swamp area was encountered in the central part of the claim. A route to the south-east area could not be located. Access was flagged just south of the east end of Spawn Lake. (DL sheet 3)

Prospecting located a well mineralized float just west of a creek south of Spawn Lake at the east end, visible Zn, Cu, Pb, pyrite. I prospected up-ice with no luck finding the source. Prospecting located many hematite, jasper floats south of Spawn Lake (DL sheet 3).

Prospecting was done along the base and ribbon lines and a total of 9 samples were taken and sent to Swastika Laboratories for assaying. (Refer to geological map for grid traverses and sample information).

  • TRENCHING SUMMARY

Trenching was done in September 8( October by Thorcox Excavating Ltd. of Beardmore.

Repeated attempts were made from the north to access the old trenches with the excavator. AU attempts failed as the swamps were too wet and would not support the machine. An attempt was made approaching from the west. This also failed as the swamp just west of Prago #3 DDH could not be crossed.

Efforts were then directed to locating the source of the Pb, Cu, Zn float found just north of the Baseline at approximately 12W, also to check the gold possibilities in the iron formation just south of Still Lake.

Cross trenches were put in up-ice of the floats as far as the iron formation.

The iron formation was stripped off, washed, drilled and blasted and sampled. This deposit has quarry possibilities for decorative stone. Specimens were brought to MN DM and were sawed and polished for display.

A total of 9 samples were sent to Swastika for assay.

  • RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS

The assay results from the various locations proved to be disappointing; however, just west of Still Lake, backhoe trenching exposed a complexly folded and knurled spectacularly multicoloured, aesthetically attractive hematite-jasper iron formation under shallow overburden. Trenching results indicate that this iron formation is at least 100m wide (Plate 1) Many large samples were carried out in the bucket of the back hoe and then trucked to Beardmore for display purposes. No marketing attempt has yet been made but several inquiries have already been made concerning the purchase of this stone for decorative purposes such as garden-stone in parks or corporate lawns etc.

    Page 13

  • RECOMMENDATIONS

The possibility of commercially marketing the ironstone as a decorative stone should be pursued. A good driveable gravel road along the backhoe road could easily be established from the Windigokan Road to the showing for probably as little as S5000. Due to the shallow overburden and high ground, a quarry could also be established at a relatively low cost. Due to large width of the jasper-hematite zone, a large operation could eventually be implemented.
