Purpose of StudyPurpose of Study

They were looking to find out the quantity of technology use and quality of technology use in schools today.

The study researched about how different technology uses can be more popular and if it would be able to stimulate a child’s learning ability.

Methodology Methodology

This study was performed on students and teachers at a middle school in the state of Ohio.

There was said to be 237 students and a 9:1 teacher-student ratio involved in this study.

These surveys and interviews lasted about one academic school year from 2003-2004, in which students spent 3 hours on computers daily.

Ten teachers at a time were interviewed to obtain different perspectives.

Also 231 post-test surveys were conducted to find out differences in popularity of technological uses.

Data AnalysisData Analysis

The T-test and ANOVA tests were conducted to find similarities among student’s GPA’s and technology uses.

After these tests, they were sorted according to the different types of questions.

They found that using Microsoft Word in note taking, had a negative affect to student GPA’s, but was the most popular.

Most of the technology uses were helpful in student improvement.

Though computers were helping students, they felt that spending too much time on the computer was taking away from learning.

Due to this, they were spending more time on non-related academic material.

The Quantity of technology can either have a positive or negative effect depending on how it is used.

The Quality, they feel is the time they spend on the computer or using technology for school purposes, though it should be limited.

My ReactionMy Reaction

I feel that technology is known to promote higher levels of learning, but it should be regulated.

If you tell a student to use the computer as a resource to find research, chances are they aren’t going to use it for that purpose unless they are given a certain amount of time for the assignment to be completed.

How will I use this information in the How will I use this information in the Classroom? Classroom?

This would be helpful in the classroom, when an assignment is given, in which students need to use different resources besides books.

Technology will help students become interested in the idea of learning if technology is incorporated because its more interactive rather than using a pen and paper.

The students that used the computer most there GPA’s went up by 0.5 percent.

Most of the studies came from computer use, but 84 percent of the students said they use the computer for a majority of there homework assignments.
