Original Lesson

OPENING(Specify the skills/information that will be learned.)Standard 6 (note: these steps will be covered as needed for the different parts of the assignment) Review if necessary, then introduce assignment Students will access https://www.tes.com/lessons/wsduBWfrvYl6Hg/curated-toolkit-content-focused-resources-digital-design Students are able to access resources and watch video links over concepts of color theory and use the way back machine to see color themes of websites from the past. Go over the concept of the color wheel, explain why some colors work well together and some do not, talk about analogous (side-by-side) and complementary (opposite on the wheel)--how these colors work well together, bring in paint color sample swatches to share, magazine pictures or pictures taken to show how colors work well together (there are some online where you can click and change the colors and see which works well, like home depot) Introduce key terms via PowerPoint or other means Go over presentation skills (eye-to-eye contact, handshakes, posture, no rocking on the podium, chewing gum, use of non-words, target audience, etc.)

Students should have previously set up GoAnimate accounts and should be familiar with, if not, instructor must access and introduce to students. If students are not familiar with Wordle.net, instructor must go over steps to access and create a word cloud, proofreading, printing

Essential Questions:

What are the primary colors? Define Analogous. If items on a webpage are close in proximity, what does that say about them? What are complementary colors and do they work well together? Why or why not? How many fonts should be used on one page?

WORK SESSION(Describe the activity that will reinforce the lesson.) Students will use a Photoshop tutorial to learn new skills and instead of creating a Wordle of Vocab words students will use Typography skills to create their own intereptation of a work cloud. Students will use construction paper or poster paper to draw a color wheel, after going to colormatters.com and studying the colorwheel Students will access PowerPoints and take notes per instructions given- Read/Take good, legible notes from ppt slides (Principles of Good Design http://www.slideshare.net/JenniferJanviere/gooddesign2 ) and (Color Design http://www.slideshare.net/JenniferJanviere/understanding-color-1974960 ) and (Designing for the Client http://www.slideshare.net/Faceness/chapter-2-9981730 ) Students will take the global color survey and view results. Take a screenshot of the findings and paste in word document, print to black printer Look at some Websites and documents to see good design v bad design, look at alignment, proximity, whitespace, contrast--discuss Students will work with a partner and write a skit teaching others key terms assigned. Then they will choose animated characters/settings in goanimate.com, make sure the skit is five minutes in length, present to class, using presentation skills learnedNote: students must turn in all work and rubric prior to presenting

All learning styles may not be addressed every day, but all will be addressed during the unit.

Differentiation throughout Unit: For individual attention, student may need to come during Irish Time; that applies to any student who is struggling. DVD's/video clips for the auditory learner, articles to read for the linguistic learner, skits/role-play/keyboard/drawing for the Kinesthetic learner, Animation and art and DVD's for the visual learner, writing/speaking for the linguistic learner, group/pairs/for the interpersonal learner, individual work for the intrapersonal learner. Note: All learning styles will be addressed throughout the unit; however, all will not be addressed every day.

ASSESSMENT METHOD(List the steps to check for student understanding.) Formative-instructor monitors the students progress Formative-Announced quizzes & scavenger hunts & presentations Summative-Unit Test

CLOSING(Describe how students will summarize learning.) Hot seat questionsstudents will answer questions when called on or when questions are placed underneath their desks/seats. Q & A, students summarize or explain a key term Discussion Ticket out the door Student will summarize lesson learned Sharing work via Canvas software

Resources: tickets out the door, construction/poster paper, colored pencils, markers, printers (color and black/white), wordle.net, goanimate.com, (Principles of Good Design http://www.slideshare.net/JenniferJanviere/gooddesign2) and (Color Design http://www.slideshare.net/JenniferJanviere/understanding-color-1974960) and (Designing for the Client http://www.slideshare.net/Faceness/chapter-2-9981730), Non-Designers Design Book by Robin Williams
