Technology in Education
• According to the US Department of Education and the National Center for Education Statistics, back in 2009,– 97% of teachers had computers in classrooms– 40% of teachers said they use it often, or
sometimes (29%)– Technology stated as needed every day: LCD or
DLP projectors (72%), interactive whiteboards (57%), digital cameras (49%).
Now in 2013…
• We are brining iPads, iPhones, Android, etc into classrooms, and using various apps and websites to promote both technology, creativity and differentiation in student learning.
The Other Side
• Princeton University and George Washington University banned the use of iPads on campus due to bandwidth overload, claiming a malfunction of Apple’s software.
• Is this a small preview of a backwards trend? Is the trend in twenty years going to go back towards a paper-and-pencil education?
What three smart people said:
• “Teaching in the Internet age means we must teach tomorrow’s skills today.” – Jennifer Fleming
• “New technology is common, new thinking is rare.” - Sir Peter Blake
• “Any teacher that can be replaced with a computer, deserves to be.” – David Thornburg
