EIT-Milestones

• 17.10.08: The Governing Board elects the four members of the Executive Committee

• 15.09.08: The EIT marks the launch of its activities in Budapest with the

first meeting of its recently appointed Governing Board, and unanimously elects Dr. Martin Schuurmans as its Chairman.

• 30.07.08: The EIT's first Governing Board is officially appointed following a selection process which began in February 2008. The 18-strong Board provides a collective balance of expertise and experience from the worlds of higher education, research, business and innovation in Europe.

• 18.06.08: EU Member States decide unanimously that the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) will have its headquarters in Budapest.

Knowledge and intelligence communities (KIC)

ObjectivesThe KICs will promote the production, dissemination and

exploitation of new knowledge products and best practices in the innovation sector, transforming the results of higher

education and research activities into commercially exploitable innovation

Set-upseven-fifteen years, at least three partners (two from EU)

308MEUR (for first three KICS)

TimeplanFirst two or three KICs selected January 2010

2009 dialogue with the stakeholders through seminars

Focus

• Sustainable energy• Mitigation and adaption of climate change• Future information society• Next topic most probably healthcare

Four pilot projects advise the EC how to select the ideal collaboration structure for a KIC

Pilot projects (2006/2007-11.2009)

• BRIDGEsolving real world problems with high commercial value in nanomedicine

• COMPLEX-EIT embraces the complexity from nano to large electronic systems

• SUCCESSSearching unpredecented cooperations on climate and energy to ensure sustainability

• GASTgreen and safe road transportation

Technische Universität München

Objectives/Main deliverables

Collect and analyse practices in order to identify good practices for a cooperation model within the knowledge triangle

Create a pan European collaborations model

Test and validate some of the components of this new model

Disseminate the results of the projects to the wider innovation community

Wind, wave, hydrogen energy, sun cells, bio fuel cell and biogas, CCS, adjusting of motors

1-4 until more than 20 participants 20 collab are initiated less than 3 years ago, some with aim of

project not yet fulfilled 8 of 10 the large collaborations funded by FP (EU prescribes

size?), one third are national, EU funds about 58% of the projects Only one third legal entity and only one third shared physical space Industry wants to gain access to complementary resources 5 without leadership 7 joint ventures, 10 might form spin-off
