     TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS FOR PLUMBING WORKS

    I.S. CODES AND REFERENCE STANDARDS.

    A. Codes and reference standards referred to in the contract shall be understood to form a part of thecontract.

     

    B. Alternative reference standards produced by different standards authorities may be specified in aSection. Standards of any of the specified authorities may be acceptable, however, materials specifiedin the Section shall be incorporated in the works from only one of the specified standards authority toensure compatibility in the performance of the materials.

     C. The contractor shall be responsible for adherence to reference standard requirements by

    subcontractors and suppliers.

    D. here edition date is not specified, consider that reference to manufacturer!s and published codes,standards and specifications are made to the latest edition "revision or amendment# approved by theissuin$ or$ani%ation current at issue date of the Tender.

     

    &. The specified reference standards are INDIAN STANDARD CODES and are intended to establish thequality of materials and workmanship required for the works. 'eference standards published in other countries may, in the sole (ud$ement of the owner!s consultant, also be acceptable providin$ that theContractor furnishes sufficient data for the )wner!s Consultant to determine if the quality of materialsand workmanship at least equals or e*ceeds all tests prescribed by the specified reference +ndianStandards codes.

    full information on storin$, handlin$, preparin$, mi*in$, installin$, erection, applyin$ or other matters

    concernin$ the materials pertinent to their use in the works and their relationship to materials with whichthey are incorporated.

    8.4 GENERAL RE'UIREMENTS

    8.8 S*pe + ,r- 

    8.8.8 The form of Contract shall be accordin$ to the FConditions of ContractF. The followin$ clauses shall be considered as an e*tension and not in limitation of the obli$ation of the Contractor.

    8.8.9 ork under this Contract shall consist of furnishin$ all labour, materials, equipment and appliancesnecessary and required. The Contractor is required to completely furnish all the plumbin$ and other speciali%ed services as described hereinafter and as specified in the schedule of quantities andGor shownon the plumbin$ drawin$s.

    8.9.8 ork under this Contract shall be carried out strictly in accordance with specifications attached with thetender.

    8.9.9 +tems not covered under these specifications due to any ambi$uity or misprints, or additional works, thework shall be carried out as per specifications of the latest Central 7ublic orks Department with uptodate amendments as applicable in the Contract.

    8.9.; orks not covered under para 9.8 and 9.9 shall be carried out as per relevant +ndian Standards and incase of its absence as per British Standard Code of 7ractice.

    8.; E0e*"in + ,r-  

    The Contractor should visit and e*amine the site of work and satisfy himself as to the nature of thee*istin$ roads and other means of communication and other details pertainin$ to the work and localconditions and facilities for obtainin$ his own information on all matters affectin$ the e*ecution of work. /o e*tra char$e made in consequence of any misunderstandin$, incorrect information on any of these points or on $round of insufficient description will be allowed.

    8.;.9 The work shall be carried out in conformity with the 7lumbin$Gire i$htin$ drawin$s and within the

    requirements of architectural, 2AC, electrical, structural and other speciali%ed services drawin$s.

    8.;.; The Contractor shall cooperate with all trades and a$encies workin$ on the site. 2e shall make provision for han$ers, sleeves, structural openin$s and other requirements well in advance to preventhold up of pro$ress of the construction schedule.

    8.;.= )n award of the work, Contractor shall submit a schedule of construction in the form of a 7&'T chart or BA' chart for approval of the 7ro(ect 1ana$erGArchitectGConsultant. All dates and time schedulea$reed upon shall be strictly adhered to, within the stipulated time of completionG commissionin$ alon$with the specified phasin$s, if any.

    8.= Dra,in#

    8.=.8 7lumbin$ drawin$s are dia$rammatic but shall be followed as closely as actual construction permits.Any deviations made shall be in conformity with the architectural and other services drawin$s.

    8.=.9 Architectural drawin$s shall take precedence over plumbin$ or other services drawin$s as to alldimensions.

    8.=.; Contractor shall verify all dimensions at site and brin$ to the notice of the 7ro(ect 1ana$er alldiscrepancies or deviations noticed. Decision of the 7ro(ect 1ana$er shall be final.

    8.=.= @ar$e si%e details and manufacturers dimensions for materials to be incorporated shall take precedenceover small scale drawin$s.

    8.=.< Any drawin$s issued by the ArchitectsGConsultant for the work are the property of the ArchitectsGConsultant and shall not be lent, reproduced or used on any works other than intended without thewritten permission of the ArchitectsGConsultant.

    8..8 Contractor shall provide permanent bench marks, fla$ tops and other reference points for the proper e*ecution of work and these shall be preserved till the end of the work.

    8.>.9 All such reference points shall be in relation to the levels and locations, $iven in the architectural and plumbin$ drawin$s.

    8.: Re+eren*e !ra,in# 

    8.:.8 The Contractor shall maintain one set of all drawin$s issued to him as reference drawin$s. Theseshall not be used on site. All important drawin$s shall be mounted on boards and placed in racksinde*ed. /o drawin$s shall be rolled.

    8.:.9 All corrections, deviations and chan$es made on the site shall be shown on these reference drawin$s for final incorporations in the completion drawin$s. All chan$es to be made shall be initialed by the 7ro(ect1ana$er or Architects.

    8.3 S1p !ra,in#

    8.3.8 The Contractor shall submit to the 7ro(ect 1ana$er four copies of the shop drawin$s. ENVIRONS

    8.3.9 Shop drawin$s shall be submitted under followin$ conditions-6

    a# Showin$ any chan$es in layout in the plumbin$ drawin$s. b# &quipment layout, pipin$ and wirin$ dia$ram.c# 1anufacturer!s or Contractor!s fabrication drawin$s for any materials or equipment

    supplied by him.

    8.3.; The Contractor shall submit four copies of catalo$ues, manufacturer!s drawin$s, equipment

    characteristics data or performance charts as required by the 7ro(ect 1ana$er.

    8.84 Cple"in !ra,in#

    8.84.8 )n completion of work, Contractor shall submit one complete set of ori$inal tracin$s and two printsof Fas builtF drawin$s to the 7ro(ect 1ana$er. These drawin$s shall have the followin$ information.

    a# 'un of all pipin$, diameters on all floors, vertical stacks and location of e*ternal services.

     b# 0round and invert levels of all draina$e pipes to$ether with location of all manholesand connections upto outfall.

    c# 'un of all water supply lines with diameters, locations of control valves, access panels.

    d# @ocation of all mechanical equipment with layout and pipin$ connections.

     /o completion certificate shall be issued unless the above drawin$s are submitted.

    8.84.9 Contractor shall provide four sets of catalo$ues, service manuals manufacturer!s drawin$s, performancedata and list of spare parts to$ether with the name and address of the manufacturer for all electrical andmechanical equipment provided by him.

    8.84.; All Fwarranty cardsF $iven by the manufacturers shall be handed over to the 7ro(ect 1ana$er.

    8.88. Cn"ra*"r2 ra"e

    8.88.8 'ates quoted in this tender shall be inclusive of cost of materials, labour, supervision, erection, tools, plant, scaffoldin$, service connections, transport to site, ta*es, octroi and levies, breaka$e, wasta$e andall such e*penses as may be necessary and required to completely do all the items of work and put themin a workin$ condition.

    8.88.9 'ates quoted are for all hei$hts and depths and in all positions as may be required for this work.

    8.88.; All rates quoted must be for complete items inclusive of all such accessories, fi*tures and fi*in$arran$ements, nuts, bolts, han$ers as are a standard part of the particular item e*cept where speciallymentioned otherwise.

    8.88.= All rates quoted are inclusive of cuttin$ holes and chases in walls and floors and makin$ $ood thesame with cement mortarGconcreteGwater proofin$ of appropriate mi* and stren$th as directed by 7ro(ect1ana$er. Contractor shall provide holes, sleeves, recesses in the concrete and masonry work as thework proceeds.

    8.88.< The Contractor shall furnish the Architects with vouchers test certificates, on request, to prove thatthe materials are as specified and to indicate that the rates at which the materials are purchased inorder to workout the rate analysis of non tendered items which he may be called upon to carryout.

    8.89 Te"in#

    8.89.8 7ipin$ and draina$e works shall be tested as specified under the relevant clauses of the specifications.

    8.89.9 Tests shall be performed in presence of the 7ro(ect 1ana$erGConsultant.8.89.; All materials and equipment found defective shall be replaced and whole work tested to meet the

    requirements of the specifications.

    8.89.= Contractor shall perform all such tests as may be necessary and required by the local authorities tomeet municipal or other bye6laws in force.

    8.89.< Contractor shall provide all labour, equipment and materials for the performance of the tests.

    8.8;. Si"e *learan*e an! *leanp

    8.8;.8 The Contractor shall, from time to time, clear away all debris and e*cess materials accumulated at thesite.

    8.8;.9 After the fi*tures, equipment and appliances have been installed and commissioned, Contractor shall

    clean6up the same and remove all plaster, paints, stains, stickers and other forei$n matter or discoloration leavin$ the same in a ready to use condition.

    8.8;.; )n completion of all works, Contractor shall demolish all stores, remove all surplus materials and leavethe site in a broom clean condition, failin$ which the same shall be done at Contractor!s risk and cost.

    8.8=. Li*ene peri" an! a"1ri"ie

    8.8=.8 Contractor must hold a valid plumbin$ or any other as required license by the municipal authority or other competent authority under whose (urisdiction the work falls.

    8.8=.9 Contractor must keep constant liaison with the municipal Gstatutory authority and obtain approval of alldraina$e, water supply and other works carried out by him.

    8.8=.; Contractor shall obtain, from the municipal and other authorities completion certificate with respect tohis work as required for occupation of the buildin$. Contractor shall obtain permanent water supplyand draina$e connections from authorities concerned. &mployer shall re6imburse the fees paid to theauthorities towards the connection char$es an production of receipts for money paid.

     /o structural member shall be chased or cut without the written permission of the 7ro(ect 1ana$er.

    8.8: Ma"erial pplie! /& epl&er

    8.8:.8 The Contractor shall verify that all materials supplied by the employer conform to the specifications of the relevant item in the tender. Any discrepancy found shall be brou$ht to the notice of the 7ro(ect1ana$er.

     8.83 Ma"erial

    8.83.8 Enless otherwise specified and e*pressly approved in writin$ by the 7ro(ect 1ana$er, only materials of makes and specification as mentioned in the list of approved makes attached with the specificationsshall be used.

    8.83.9 +f required, the Contractor shall submit samples of materials proposed to be used in the works.Approved samples shall be kept in the office of the 7ro(ect 1ana$er and returned to the Contractor at

    the appropriate time.

    6. Sani"ar& Fi0"re

    9.8 S*pe + ,r-

    9.8.8 ork under this section shall consist of furnishin$ labour necessary and required to completely install allsanitary fi*tures, chromium plated fittin$s and accessories as required by the drawin$s specifiedhereinafter and $iven in the Schedule of Iuantities.

    9.8.9 ithout restrictin$ to the $enerality of the fore$oin$ the sanitary fi*tures shall include the followin$-6

     a# Sanitary fi*tures b# Chromium plated fittin$s c# 7orcelain or stainless steel sinks d# Accessories e.$ towel rods, toilet paper holders, soap dish, towel rack, coat hooks etc.e# 1irrors.

     f# Connections to all kitchen, laundry equipment, pump headers and other equipment requirin$ water and draina$e connections.

    9.8.; hether specifically mentioned or not all fi*tures and appliances shall be provided with all fi*in$devices, nuts, bolts, screws, han$ers as required.

    9.8.= All e*posed pipes within toilets and near fi*tures shall be chromium plated brass or copper unless

    otherwise specified.

    6.6 General re5ireen"

    Sanitary fi*tures shall be of the best quality approved by the 7ro(ect 1ana$er. herever particular makes are mentioned, the choice of selection shall remain with the 7ro(ect 1ana$er.

    All fi*tures and fittin$s shall be provided with all such accessories as are required to complete theitem in workin$ condition whether specifically mentioned or not in the Schedule of Iuantities,specifications, drawin$s. accessories shall include proper fi*in$ arran$ement, brackets, nuts, bolts,screws and required connection pieces.

    9.9.; i*in$ screws shall be half round head chromium plated brass screws with C.7.washers where

    necessary.

    9.9.= Contractor shall furnish without cost all such accessories and fi*in$ devices that are necessary andrequired but not supplied alon$ with the 7lumbin$ i*tures C7 ittin$s by the manufacturers as a partof the ori$inal and standard supply.

    9.9.< All fittin$s and fi*tures shall be fi*ed in a neat workmanlike manner true to level and hei$htsshown on the drawin$s and in accordance with the manufacturers recommendations. Care shall betaken to fi* all inlet and outlet pipes at correct positions. aulty locations shall be made $ood and anydama$e to the finished floor, tilin$ or terrace shall be made $ood at Contractor!s cost.

     9.9. Contractor seal all fi*tures fi*ed near wall, marble and ed$es. ith an approved type of poly6sulphide

    sealant appropriate for its application.

    6.7 Sppl& + Fi0"re 8 Fi""in# /& O,ner

    9.;.8 All 7orcelain fittin$s, C.7. fittin$s accessories shall be supplied by the owners free of cost at site.

    9.;.9 Contractor shall take the delivery of the materials directly from the suppliers and will be responsiblefor its safe stora$e and custody.

    9.;.; )nly materials ,accessories and fi*in$ devices supplied as standard supplies by the manufacturer shall be $iven to the contractor .

    All balance materials e.$. nuts, bolts, C7 nuts bolts, other fi*in$ devices shall be supplied by thecontractor within the quoted rates.

    9.;.< Description and method of fi*in$ is $iven below for the contractor to understand the scope and e*tent of 

    the work for which main materials will be supplied by the )wners.

    6.9 Erpean W.C 

    9.=.8 &uropean .C. shall be wash down or siphonic type floor or wall mounted set flushed by means of  porcelain flushin$ cistern , e*posed or concealed type flush valve or by imported type plastic flushin$systems which will be an inte$ral part of the wall system. ramework ,wallin$ and finishin$ will not forma part of the contractorJs work. here applicable flush pipeG bend shall be connected to the .C. bymeans of a suitable rubber adapter. all hun$ .C. shall be supported by C.+. floor mounted chair.

    9.=.9 &ach .C. set shall be provided with a plastic seat shall be with rubber buffers and chromium platedhin$es.

    9.=.; 7lastic seat shall be so fi*ed that it remains absolutely stationary in vertical position without fallin$down on the .C. &ach .C. shall be suitable for flushin$ in low volume of water

    6.< Sin-

    9.>.8 Sinks shall be white $la%ed fireclay or vitreous china or stainless steel or any other material asspecified in the Schedule of Iuantities.

    9.>.9 &ach sink shall be provided with brackets of approved and securely fi*ed. Counter top sinks shall befi*ed with suitable brackets or clips as recommended by the manufacturer. &ach sink shall be providedwith =4 mm dia C.7. waste with chain and plu$ as $iven in the Schedule of Iuantities. i*in$ shall bedone as directed by 7ro(ect 1ana$er.

    9.>.; Supply fittin$s for sinks shall be mi*in$ fittin$s or C.7. taps as specified in the Schedule of Iuantities.

    6.= Han! Drier

    9.:.8 The hand drier shall be no touch operatin$ type with solid state time delay to allow user to keep handin any position.

    9.:.9 The hand drier shall be fully hy$ienic, rated for continuous repeat use.

    9.:.; The ratin$ of hand drier shall be such that time required to dry a pair of hands upto wrists isappro*imately ;4 seconds.

    9.:.= The hand drier shall be wall mountin$ type suitable for 9;4 volts, sin$le phase, Tile" +r Dia/le!

    9.3.8 here specified in washroom facilities desi$ned to accommodate physically handicapped,accessories should be provided as directed by the 7ro(ect 1ana$er.

    9.3.9 Stainless steel $rab bars of required si%e suitable for concealed or e*posed mountin$ and non6slip$rippin$ surface shall be provided in all washrooms to be used by physically handicapped as directed by the 7ro(ect 1ana$er.

    6.3? S1,er e" (Op"inal)

    9.84.8 Shower set shall comprise of sin$le lever shower mi*er, C.7. shower arm with wall flan$e and shower head of approved quality or as specified in the Schedule of Iuantities or supplied by the 7ro(ect

    1ana$er.

    9.84.9 Shower mi*er and shower arm shall be so fi*ed as to keep the wall flan$e clear off the finished wall.all flan$es embedded in the finishin$ shall not be accepted.

    6.33 A**erie

    9.88.8 Contractor shall install all chromium plated and porcelain accessories as shown on the drawin$s or directed by the 7ro(ect 1ana$er.

    9.88.9 All C.7. accessories shall be fi*ed with C.7. brass half round head screws and cup washers in wall withrawl plu$s or nylon sleeves and shall include cuttin$ and makin$ $ood as required or directed by

    7ro(ect 1ana$er.

    9.88.; 'ecessed porcelain accessories shall be fi*ed in walls and set in cement mortar 8-9 "8 cement- 9 coarsesand# and fi*ed in relation to the tilin$ work as per +nterior Desi$nerJs drawin$s.

    6.36 Urinal par"i"in

    9.89.8 Erinal partitions shall be white $la%ed vitreous china , marble , $ranite or any other material selected bythe same shall be fi*ed by contractor e*ecutin$ the finishin$ work. The e*act location shall however beco oriented by the 7lumbin$ Contractor.

    Erinal partitions shall be fi*ed at proper hei$hts with C.7. brass bolts, anchor fasteners and 1.S. clipsas recommended by the manufacturer and directed by 7ro(ect 1ana$er..

    6.37 Meareen" 

    9.8;.8 Sanitary fi*tures and accessories shall be measured by numbers in the unit $iven in the Schedule of Iuantities.
