I. General Requirement

1.General Requirement

1.1 The intent of these specifications, whether or not specifically mentioned herein, to describe a diesel engine driven. Crawler tractor, equipped with hydraulically operated general purpose dozer and multi shank (3 shanks) rippers having operating weight of 24,000-30,000kg including forest canopy and rigid draw bar.

The tractor shall be tropicalized and dependable for operating under the conditions specified in the service requirement herein and rough terrains. We offer one unit of caterpillar model D7R series II Track Type Tractor with 240 HP net engine fly wheel power, diesel engine driven, crawler tractor, equipped with hydraulically operated semi universal blade dozer with a tilt cylinder, rear mounted multi shank ripper, FOPS/ROPS canopy having an operating weight of 27413 Kg .The offered caterpillar model D7R series II Track Type Tractor is tropicalized and dependable for operating conditions specified in the service requirement herein and rough terrains.

1.2 Service Requirement

The track tractor to be supplied shall be used at Finchaa Sugar Factory for cane plantation, land development and other with earth works project in Ethiopia where the following climatic, altitude and temperature variations shall be experienced.

Altitude varies from 1200-2500 meters elevationThe offered Caterpillar model D7R series II Track Type Tractor can be used efficiently at Finchaa Sugar Factory for cane plantation, land development and other with earth works project in Ethiopia where the following climatic, altitude and temperature variations are experienced.

Altitude varying from sea level to an average of 1200-2500 meters elevation.

1.3 Manufacturing Requirements

1.3.1 General

All parts, components, attachments and accessories not specifically mentioned in this specification but essential for dependable and efficient operation of the unit shall be furnished by the supplier as part of this bid and shall be in accordance with current engineering and manufacturing practices and according to prevailing trade provisions in general.

1.3.2 Materials

The materials of which all parts, attachments, accessories and components of the unit bid upon are manufactured and assembled shall be of the current technology durable and reliable for the intended purpose, the finish shall be of high quality and good workmanship with dependable operation.All parts, components, attachments and accessories, which are essential for dependable and efficient operation of the offered Track Type Tractor, will be furnished in accordance with current Caterpillar manufacturing practices. All components and accessories are also manufactured in accordance with current Caterpillar engineering and manufacturing practices and prevailing trade provisions in general.The materials of which all parts, attachment, accessories and components of the unit bid upon which manufactured and assembled are of the current technology durable, free from defects and reliable for the intended service, the finish is high quality and good workmanship with dependable operation.

1.4 Warranty

The supplier or the bidder shall guarantee that all items included and/or furnished with the unit bid upon shall be new, unused, of the most recent or current models and incorporate all recent improvements in design and materials. The bidder shall also guarantee to replace free of charge (transport, labour, material and other expenses incurred these of) any part or component that breaks or fail to function in any manner under the service conditions described herein due to defective or inferior materials or poor workmanship within a period of 12 months or 2000 hours whichever comes last, from the date of receipt of the unit at final destination.We guarantee that all items of the offered Track Type Tractors are brand new, unused and of the most recent models, incorporate current Caterpillar improvements in design and materials, are of high quality and use state of the art workmanship. .

We also guarantee to repair or replace at our cost parts or components that may break or fail by reason of inferior or defective material and/or workmanship, within a period of 2000hrs or 12 months, whichever comes first from the date of delivery at final destination.

1.5 Recommended Parts List

The bidder must furnish itemized price for the suggested list of recommended spare parts for the first 4000 hrs of operation, with prices valid for a period of one year.Itemized and priced list of recommended spare parts as per the tender requirement is attached herewith for your reference and decision. The price of these recommended spare parts will be valid for a period of one year from the date of bid opening, September 16, 2010.

2. Engine2.1 General

The diesel engine shall perform smoothly and efficiently under all conditions of operation described above and shall develop the rated power when operating on commercial diesel fuel with a sulfur content of less than 1% and cetan number of 50.The offered Caterpillar model D7R series II Track Type Tractor is propelled by Cat 3176C diesel engine which performs smoothly and efficiently under operating conditions specified in your tender requirement and which sufficiently develops the rated horse power when operating with commercially available diesel fuel with sulphur content of 1% and Cetane number of 50.

2.2 Type

The engine shall high altitude compensator, turbo charged, four cycle, water cooled, diesel with not less than 6 cylinders and shall be equipped with replaceable wet type cylinder sleeves. The supplier shall specify rated engine speed, bore and stroke, displacement and compression ratio.The Caterpillar 3176C High altitude compensator, four cycle, Turbo Charged, water cooled, diesel engine with six cylinders, diesel engine which is equipped with replaceable wet type cylinder sleeves.

2.3 Power

The engine shall deliver minimum of 179kw/240BHP SAE, net at fly wheel, at 2100 rpm, at 3000 meters above sea level. The supplier shall also state gross engine power and break down of loses due to different reasons.The Caterpillar model 3176C engine delivers 179 KW/240 HP net flywheel power at 2100 rpm, under ISO 9249 standard conditions. The gross engine power and net power are indicated on the specaloge.

2.4 Engine Performance Data

The supplier shall submit certified engine data with his bid showing net power, torque and specific fuel consumption curves at governed engine speed, at sea level and 3000 meters above sea level. The supplier shall also furnish average fuel consumption per hour when the tractor is working under heavy workloads.

We have attached certified engine data showing net power, torque and specific fuel consumption curves against the governed RPM.

The average hourly fuel consumption of the offered machine when working under different workloads is as follows:

2.5 Fuel System

The fuel tank or tanks shall be properly ventilated, protected both internally and externally from corrosion and must incorporate a baffled sump to water formed by condensation, properly supported with under side sheet metal for protection. Fuel tank cap shall be self closing type permanently fixed on the filler neck (fuel tank cap with chain is required). The fuel tank shall have the capacity of 470 liters.

2.5.1 Fuel Injection Pump

The injection pump shall be mechanically driven with all regulatory and controlling attachments. Piston type fuel priming pump shall be installed.

2.5.2 Fuel Injectors

Injectors shall be accessible, interchangeable and readily removable.

2.5.3 Fuel Filters

The fuel filters shall be dual with water and sediment trap and shall be accessible, replaceable and readily removable for quick maintenance.The fuel tank of the offered Caterpillar model D7R series II Track Type Tractor is properly ventilated and protected both internally and externally from corrosion and a baffled sump to water formed by condensation, properly supported with under side sheet metal for protection. The fuel tank incorporates a baffled sump to collect water formed by condensation and a drainage valve to discard sediments and water.

The injectors are accessible, interchangeable, and readily removable for easy and quick maintenance.

The fuel system incorporates a dual filtration/ filters with primary and secondary filters which are in series to effectively separate water and sediment trap. They are accessible, replaceable and readily removable for quick maintenance.

2.6 Lubrication System

Engine lubrication system of the full force feed type by gear/rotor driven type oil pump through oil clarification by two replaceable cartridge shall be provided. The engine oil filler cap permanently attached to filler neck (oil filler cap with chain is required)Engine lubrication is full force feed type by a gear driven rotor type oil pump, Oil clarification is equipped with replaceable cartridge full flow filter. The engine oil filler cap is lockable with caterpillar standard key pad lock.

2.7 Air Intake System

The engine shall be equipped with heavy duty two stages, dry type air cleaner with cyclone pre cleaner and automatic dust ejector. It shall also be equipped with service indicator.The Cat 3176C engine is equipped with heavy duty, two stages dry type air cleaner with a cyclone pre-cleaner and automatic dust ejector. The system also equipped with restriction /service indicator.

2.8 Exhaust System

Heavy duty muffler with vertical exhaust discharge above the top of the tractor canopy. The exhaust shall have adequate insulation. The exhaust silencer must be provided with rain cap.The exhaust system comprises heavy duty muffler with vertical exhaust discharge above the top of the tractor canopy. The exhaust system equipped with adequate insulation. The exhaust pipe is curved at the top.

2.9 Engine cooling System

The cooling system shall be of tropicalized, closed pressurized, pump forced type, water medium with ample capacity to permit continuous full load operation of the engine without boiling of the coolant under the conditions specified in the service requirement herein. 2.9.1 Radiator

The radiator shall be of heavy duty construction properly mounted to withstand shocks and strain likely to be encountered in operation. The radiator shall have adequate capacity and flow area, plus a compensation for the altitude and temperature in Ethiopia. The radiator shall be easily removable and accessible for maintenance. Radiator core protection grill and radiator cap with strong chain permanently attached to the radiator shall be furnished.

2.9.2 Cooling Fan

The cooling system shall be fitted with an adequate size direct driven cooling fan made of steel.

2.9.3 Water Pump

Heavy duty belt driven centrifugal water pump shall be supplied/installed.

The offered Caterpillar model D7R series II is equipped with Advanced Modular Cooling System (AMOCS) radiator which is heavy-duty construction, tropicalized and properly mounted to withstand shocks and strains likely to be encountered in operation under the conditions of operation described under the service requirement. The radiator has adequate capacity and flow area to maintain the operating temperature with altitude or pressure compensator, which protects the system from damage due to sudden or eventual pressure change.

The radiator core protection metal grill is securely hinged and radiator cap locked with Caterpillar standard one key security system.

The cooling system is equipped with an adequate size, direct drive and made of steel fan.The cooling system comprise of heavy duty, belt driven, centrifugal water pump.

2.10 Electric System

The electric system shall be composed of, but not limited to a complete 24v electric starting, charging, lighting systems, necessary protection, switches and keys. All wiring shall be enclosed in non metallic loom.

2.10.1 Battery

The batteries shall be two heavy duty, dry charged and maintenance free for direct starting. Each battery shall have the capacity of 12V, 170AH at 20 hours rating. The batteries shall be mounted at convenient place in metal box provided with hold down devices.

2.10.2 Starter Motor

An electric motor shall start the engine satisfactory at temperature as low as 00c without recourse of any auxiliary heating or starting device, glow plugs, or fluid priming system. The sartor motor shall have the capacity of 9-12HP.

2.10.3 Alternator

Heavy duty 24V, 75A alternator shall be supplied.

2.10.4 Lighting System

The lighting system shall consist of but not limited to two/four adjustable head lights, two back up lights, turn warning/hazard lights and instrument panel light shall be installed in accordance with current manufacturing practices. Fuses, circuit breakers and/or equal protection of the wiring against damage of short circuits shall protect the system.

2.10.5 Instrument PanelThe instrument panel shall be manufacturers current standard and shall include but not limited to tachometer, Speedo meter, hour meter, engine heat indicator, lighting switches fuel gauge, oil pressure gauge, transmission torque converter oil temperature gauge. Charging indicator . etc.The electric system is composed of, a complete 24V direct electric starting, charging and lighting systems, electric switches and two keys. All wiring will be enclosed in non metallic loom, and well protected with fuses.The batteries are heavy duty, Caterpillar two maintenance free batteries for direct starting. Each battery has the capacity of 12v, 140AH at 20 hours rating. The batteries mounted at a convenient place in metal box with hold down deviceThe electric motor fitted on the unit is capable of starting the engine satisfactorily at temperatures as low as 00C without recourse to any auxiliary heating or starting device, glow plugs or fluid priming system

3. Transmission

Full power shift, with minimum three forward and three reverse speeds, having a maximum speed of at least 10km per hour capable of instantaneous shifting under full load in all gears and directions. Rugged construction, planetary type gearing with full pressure lubrication. Also hydrostatic transmission with infinitely variable speed is acceptable. Joystick control of gears and directional steering changes. Gear shift locks lever and neutral safety switch prevent the machine from accidental starts shall be furnished. The transmission shall be equipped with 3 element, 1 stage, 1 phase torque converter, torque divider and planetary gear, multiple disc clutch packs which is hydraulically actuated and force lubricated for optimum heat dissipation.The offered Caterpillar model D7R series II Track Type Tractors feature a electronically controlled power shift transmission with three speed forward and three speed reverse , having a maximum speed of 6.55 Km/h forward and 8.44 Km/h reverse with capability of instantaneous shifting under full load in all gears and directions

The transmission system is equipped with 3 element, 1 stage, 1 phase torque converter, torque divider and planetary gear. The transmission comprises multiple disc clutch packs which are hydraulically actuated and force lubricated for optimum heat dissipation.

4. Final Drive

The final drive shall be double reduction, spur/bevel and planetary final drives which maximize tractive effect. Segmented sprockets are bolted on for easy in field replacement. Elevated sprockets to eliminate final drive stress.The Caterpillar model D7R series II Track type tractor is equipped with elevated final drive of double reduction planetary final drives to maximize tractive effect, extend power train life and eliminates final drive stress. Bolt on Sprockets segments are easy to replace in field, reduce maintenance & down time.

5. Steering

Differential steering allow variable radius, wet multiple discs steering shall be spring loaded hydraulically released, pedal controlled service brakes are spring actuated and hydraulically released. Minimum turning radius shall be stated.The steering system is equipped with differential steering maintains power to both tracks while turning. The tractor turns when one track speeds up and the other slows down equal amounts. The operator can steer and control the transmission simultaneously, which reduce cycle times.

6. Undercarriage

6.1. Suspension

Resilient mounted bogie under carriage with equalizer bar and pivot shafts.

6.2 Track Roller Frame

Extra wide gauge roller frame for greater floatation and stability for steep slope grading. Hydraulic track adjuster sealed and lubricated tracks to eliminate internal wears.

Track frame shall be rugged construction to resist shock loads and permit oscillation between tracks. All components sealed against entry of abrasive and foreign material to give long service life, with minimum maintenance. Track rollers, carrier rollers and idlers shall be life time lubricated.

Each track shall be equipped with minimum 560mm width grouser shoe made of heat treated and abrasive resistant steel material. Detail of track specification shall be furnished.The suspension system of the undercarriage comprise resilient pads bogie undercarriage with oscillating equalizer bar and pivot shaft.

The track roller frames are extra wide gauge roller frame for greater flotation and stability for steep slope grade. The frame is comprised of hydraulic track adjuster, sealed and lubricated track links to eliminate internal wears. The track roller frames are tubular, to resist bending and twisting and permit oscillation between tracks. All components are designed and manufactured to be sealed against entry of abrasives and foreign material to give long service life, with minimum maintenance. Track rollers and idlers are life time lubricated.Each track is equipped with 560 mm extreme service single grouser shoes made of heat treated and abrasive resistance steel material.Detail of track specification of the undercarriage is available in the specalog.

7. Dozing Equipment

General purpose dozer properly matching with crawlers tractor shall be hydraulically operated with push pull arms and tilting arrangement, and it shall be made of high grade material, box framed steel construction suitable for use in conditions described in service requirement herein. Cutting edges and end bits shall be made of high strength and abrasive resistance materials. The detail of track specification shall be furnished.The offered Caterpillar model D7R series II Track Type Tractor are equipped with a semi universal blade (7SU), which is hydraulically operated with push pull arms and tilting arrangement that built for tough application. The dozer made of high grade hardened materials for use in conditions described in the service requirements. The cutting edge is made of high-tensile strength Cat DH-2 steel. End bits are made of DH-3 steel. Both the cutting edge and end bits are resist tensional bending and distortion and resist abrasive materials. 8. Ripper

The ripper shall be mutli shank (3 shanks) hydraulically variable pitch arrangement to adjust all ripper performances. Ripper shanks and tips made of high strength and abrasive resistance materials. Ripper dimension and specification shall be furnished.The offered Caterpillar model D7R II Track Type Tractor is equipped with a rear mounted, multi shank (3 shanks), and adjustable parallelogram design ripper. Hydraulically actuated from operator seat, ensuring ripper tip angle adjustment at all depths.

9. Hydraulic System

Closed center load sensing system for precise and responsive control and for efficient simultaneous operation shall be supplied. Manufacturers current standard shall be accepted.

A list of tools with price shall be included in financial offer.One set of standard tool kit including grease gun and filter wrench will be supplied with the excavator. The list of such tools is attached herewith for your reference.

14.1 Descriptive Coverage

Manuals shall cover the equipment itself and all the components, attachments and accessories thereof. Advertising literatures will not be acceptable in lieu of these manuals.

14.2 General Language Requirements

All manuals, charts, drawing and manufacturers specifications literature included with the bid offer are required to be in English and correctly worded so that no misinterpretation of manufacturers specification terms or intent is possible in analyzing the bid.One set of each of the following manuals will be supplied with each machine free of charge: -
