335050 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS:

The 335050 has two operating modes:AUTOMATIC and MANUAL. MANUAL MODE: With the “Automatic/Manual” switch in “Manual” position the Foot Lift pedal will raise the presser foot and the puller. The “Sew” pedal will run the machine, but the electric eyes do not function. Pressing the “Chop” button will activate the elastic cutter. Pressing the “Stack” button will close the stacker clamps and cycle the stacker cylinder. Pressing the “Stacker Clamp” buttom will operate the edge (elastic) clamp and toggle the fold-in-half roller cylinders. Pressing “Reset” will clear all outputs. AUTO MODE: With the “Automatic/Manual” switch in “Auto” position the machine will sew whenever the front eye (#1) is covered. When the eye becomes uncovered the machine will continue to sew for a time set by thumbwheel #1 (Stop Delay) and then stop. As the machine continues to sew and stacker clamp eye (#2) becomes covered and the leading edge chop eye(#3) becomes covered the knife will cut the elastic. The leading edge cut is adjusted by moving the eye (#3) closer to (for shorter) or further from (for longer) the knife. After the leading edge is cut the machine continues to sew for a stitch count set by thumbwheel #4 (L.E. Chop to Clamp Delay). The elastic is clamped and the fold-in-half roller carries the waistband into the stacker clamps. When the trailing edge of the garment uncovers the stacker clamp eye (#2) the sewing continues for a stitch count set by thumbwheel #2 (Stacker Clamp Delay). At the end of this count the stacker clamps grips the folded waistband and holds it until the trailing edge is cut.

stacker clamp eye (#2) the sewing continues for a stitch count set by thumbwheel #3 (Stacker Clamp Delay). At the end of this count the stacker clamps grips the folded waistband and holds it until the trailing edge is cut. When the trailing edge of the garment uncovers the chop eye (#3) the sewing continues for a stitch count set by thumbwheel #2 (T.E. Chop Delay). At the end of this count the knife cuts the elastic and the stacker cylinder moves the garment to the left to drop it onto the stacker table. As the stacker cylinder moves past its limit switch, the stacker clamps open to release the garment. A time delay set by thumbwheel #4 controls exactly when the stacker cylinder reverses direction. This adjustment affects how the garment falls onto the stack. It is usually set longer for heavier garments and shorter for light weight garments. There is a ”Jam Detection” eye (#4) located in front of the knife, that checks that the stacker did not pull the elastic out of the puller as it was stacking. This can occur if the knife fails to completely sever the previous garment. If the “Jam Detector” eye uncovers during stacking the machine will stop sewing. There are two ways to recover from this condition: If the operator determines that it is ok to continue sewing, just step on the “Sew” pedal and the machine will restart. Otherwise, press ”Reset” and switch to“”Manual” and clear the machine. The “Chop” and “Reset” buttons function the same as in “Manual”. The “Stack” and “Stacker Clamp” buttons do not function in “Auto”.

Note: At power up, the top stacker fold - in - half roller must be at its “home” position with the limit switch activated. If this condition is not correct the machine will not function.

STEPPING MOTOR CONTROL BOX:

The stepping motor control box (A) controls the side conveyor speed and the metering device speed. “Motor #1" thumbwheels (B) control the synchronus speed of the metering device. Decreasing the number puts less elastic into the garment. ”Jog 1" button (C) turns on the metering device motor when not sewing and is used when loading the elastic into the metering device. The jog speed is adjusted by a potientiometer inside the box on the top board toward the front. The side conveyor speed is adjusted by “Motor #2" thumbwheels (D). Decreasing the number will slow down the conveyor. ”Jog 2" button will run the conveyor when not sewing and is adjusted by a potientiometer inside the box on thebottom board.

Note: The elastic must maintain these set measurements at high speed. If not, check the puller to be sure the rollers are level and all screws and adjustments are tight. Check the feed dogs to be sure they are level. The pressure on the presser foot should be as light as possible without skipping stitches. Also, check to be sure the puller roller guard grooves are not moving the elastic.

10. Rotate the elastic one turn (180 deg) to the right and sew it through the machine. The elastic should and must track true to the dimensions and stitch margins.

11. Install the rear mounting bracket with quick clip on the 1/4" diameter pin at the rear of the folder.

12. Remove folder cap and edge guide. 13. Place the 35050 folder in position and insert the

elastic in the folder. Secure the assembly in position with the quick clips.

14. Position the rear of the folder so it aligns with the elastic at the guide roller- lightly secure the cinch screw on the folder mounting bracket.

15. Position the front quick clip mounting bracket to the machine and mount the nose of the folder using two 25c screws and the dw washer plate.

16. Align the left side of the nose of the folder with the elastic at the presser foot. The inside edge of the folder should touch the elastic without deflecting it.

17. Tighten all folder mounting screws.

Adjustment: Use a 5"x5" piece of material with the typical seam to adjust the folder.

A. Insert the material into the folder approximately 1/2 to 1"-the material should be lightly caught between the elastic and the folder.

A1. Adjust the gap between the elastic and folder by loosening the pan head screws on the right of the folder mounting bracket and move the folder up or down.

B. Adjust the edge guide located on the cover plate to the rear of the guide roller to allow a turn under of 1/2" or more, (1/2" from right edge of folder to face of edge guide).

C. Check tongue adjustment-The 35050 folder tongue has horizontal adjustment to move it right or left to set the material thickness and vertical adjustment to center the tongue on the elastic.

Folder Tongue Setting:

Vertical: The folder tongue is 1/4" narrower than the elastic and should be adjusted so that it si centered on the elastic. The setting should be checked at the center of the turn, and at the discharge (presser foot) end of the folder. Horizontal: Turn machine on and insert a 5" x 5" swatch of material with a typical seam in it, and run the machine until the swatch nears the presser foot. Using the adjusting bracket on the top left center of the folder move the tongue until it touches the fabric and holds it lightly against the elastic, (figure 21). Remove the swatch and run it through the folder again. If the material stops or shifts the tongue setting is too tight and readjustment will be necessary. Repeat this procedure until the material runs through the folder smoothly without hesitation.

D. Replace the folder cap using two 10-32 screws and washers. The folder cap forms a reverse .C. with the elastic inside. Loosen the edge guide and adjust the cap so that it lightly touches the edge of the elastic. Secure the folder mounting screws.

E. Adjust the edge guide-move the edge guide to the left until it lightly touches the right side of the presser foot. The combination of step 5 and 6 will govern the tightness for the finished band.

Starting Up:

F. Flip the conveyor back into position. G. Run material through the unit and check for

tightness of fold, edge margins and raw edges.

Set Conveyor Speed:

Insert a sample length of material and run the unit until the material is under the puller roller to ensure correct feed. Use a pen or pencil and mark the inside conveyor belt at the trailing edge of the piece. Run the machine at full speed for 4 to 5 inches. Check the mark to ensure the belts are moving at the same speed as the material. Adjust the conveyor speed on control box so that the mark stays within 1/2" of the material over the entire length of the folder. Repeat this step until the correct speed is achieved.
