2. BACKGROUND:
One vehicle, truck, utility, l/4-ton, 4X4, M151A2, US Army Reg. No. NBO4A,produced under contract No. DAAEO7-71-C-0103, was subjected to a 5000-milecomparison test at this installation during the period 24 May to 2 July1973.
The over-all configuration of the M151A2 vehicle is basically the sameas previous models; all models incorporate the product improvements pre-viously evaluated on the M151A2 vehicle. The most significant of the

SUBJECT: Final Letter Report on Comparison Test of Truck, Utility, 1/4-Ton, 4X4, M15JA2, USA Reg. No. NBOO4A, Mfg. Serial No. 26801,TECOM Project No. 1-VG-120-151-067, Report No. APG-MT-341
product improvements are the 1-piece windshield, deep-dish steering wheel, mechanical fuel pump, and trailing arm rear suspension. The vehicle ispowered by a 4-cylinder, water-cooled, gasoline engine, a 4-speed forwardtransmission, and selective front wheel drive. The body is of unitizedconstruction. The vehicle is designed for use over all types of roads aswell as cross-country terrain, and in all weather conditions.
3. OBJE)IVTE:
The objective was to provide evidence of contractor conformance tospecified sections of MIL-T-OO45331E, 23 January 1970, and related re-quirements as outlined in AMC form 1006A, 16 March 1972.
4. SUN4ARY OF RESULTS:
One M151A2 vehicle, USA Reg. No. NB004A, was received from the contractor'splant, via commercial carrier, on 24 May 1973 in an acceptable conditionin accordance with applicable shipping procedures.
An initial inspection was performed on the vehicle to assure a safe operat-ing condition. All on-equipment materiel (OEM) was inventoried, checkedfor fit, and installed on the vehicle for the duration of the test. Thevehicle was received less the vehicle curtain, folding top, quarter, andback, FSN 2540-064-6587. The shortage of this GFE item was annotated onthe receiving document (DD Form 250), and therefore is not a chargeableshortcoming.
Initial lubrication was performed in accordance with LO 9-2320-218-12.The engine and gear boxes were checked and all lubricant levels were sat-isfactory. All grease fittings were lubricated.
Upon completion of initial inspection and lubrication, five test radialtires and wheels were installed and 100 mile of break-in mileage wasaccomplished. The test tires and wheels were removed and original tiresand wheels reinstalled for the conduct of noise spectra test, Ref. Letter,AMSTA-QST, 8 March 1973,and specified performance tests.
After completion of all performance tests the test tires, and wheels werereinstalled for remainder of test. Remaining break-in mileage (420-miles) "
was accomplished on paved road, at curb weight per instructions containedin TM-9-2320-28-IO. This mileage is included in the total prescribedendurance mileage.

Three significant incidents were experienced during the endurance test. The lower right front suspension arm rear mounting cap screw loosened, re-sulting in the loss of one shim. The shim was replaced and all mountingcap screws were retorqued as prescribed in T4-9-2320-218-34 (Ref. Incl 2,Page 1). The upper radiator insulator assembly fractured through thefront mounting screw; the insulator assembly was replaced (Ref. Incl 2,Page 2) and the right rear outboard suspension arm bushing was worn andreplacement was necessary after 3000 test miles (Ref. Incl 2, Page 2).The vehicle was forded in 21 inches of water, without incident, upon com-pletion of the test miles.

Upon completion of all testing a final inspection of the vehicle was per-formed. A limited teardown and inspection of the engine, power train, brake, suspension, and electrical systems was accanplished. The radialtest tires and wheels were removed fron the vehicle and original tiresand wheels reinstalled on the vehicle. The test tires and wheels arestored in the warehouse awaiting instruction fron AMSTA-RKW.
No significant incidents were experienced as the result of final inspec-tion.
The vehicle was restored to code "B" condition, given a technical inspec-tion, painted, lubricated, and returned to supply channels.
5. CONCLUSIONS:
It is concluded that:
a. Quality of workmanship at the time of manufacture was satisfact-ory.
b. Vehicle performance requirements were met with the exception ofmaximum speed and radio interference suppression requirements within thefrequency spectrum tested.
c. Vehicle endurance was satisfactory, except the lower right frontsuspension arm cap screws loosened, the upper radiator insulator assemblyfractured, and the right rear outboard suspension arm bushing was worn.

1. OBJECTIVE
To measure and determine if the radiated and conducted electromagneticinterference (DII) emission levels from the Truck, Utility, 1/ Ton,4X4, Model K151A2, Serial No. NBOA-26801, USA Reg No. NB004A, and itselectrical accessories are within the specified allowable limits ofMIL-STD-461A for Class IIIa equipment.
2. CRITERIA
Radiated and conducted DII emissions from the complete vehicle includingits electrical accessories shall not exceed the specified allowablelimits of MIL-STD-61A for Class IIIa equipment.
3. MM'OD
Spectrum Surveillance System Model FSS-250D, Serial No. 33, is used tocollect and record the radiated and conducted 1I emission measurements.
A list of associated ancillary equipment used in conjunction with theSpectrum Surveillance System FSS-250D is give in Inclosure I.
The radiated emission subtests are performed in accordance with themethods for Subtest REO5 outlined in NIIrSTD-h62 over the frequency rangefrom 150 klz to 1000 MHz. The antennas are individually oriented one meterabove ground level and one meter from the front, left and right sidesof the vehicle engine compartment. The Biconical Antenna BIA-25 IGalternately polarized horizontally and vertically to obtain measurementsover the frequency range from 25 to 200 MHz.
The conducted emission subtests are performed in accordance with themethods for Subtest CE03 outlined in MIL-STD-462 over the frequencyrange from 150 kHz to 50 MHz. The Current Probe PCL-25 is clamped alter-nately around the positive (+) and negative (-) power cables at thevehicle battery.
Operation of the test vehicle during simultaneous operation of one ormore of the electrical subsystem during the radiated and conducted DIemission subtests is established as shown in Table I.

However radiatedEMI emissions from the electric horn assembly (switching CU/OFF) exceededthe allowable limits of the governing specification. Radiated EMIemission measurements could not be made over the frequency ranges from150 kHz to 21.5 MHz because of excessively high RF ambient noise levels,0-42 db above specification limits, with exception of the radiated emissionsubtests of the electric horn assembly. It was possible to masure theradiated emissions from the electric horn assembly above the RF ambientsbecause the magnitude of these emissions exceeded the R? ambieat noiselevel. 5. ANALYSIS
Although other accessories and/or subsystems failed the radiated and/orconducted EMI emission subtests, the electric horn assembly appeared tobe a commercially available off-the-shelf item. It contained no apparentRF interference suppression treatment.
Although the vehicle ignition and battery charging systems were operatingsimultaneously during performance of radiated and conducted emission testsof these accessories, it was quite evident by the nature of the emissionsmeasured that they were being produced by the battery charging system.

Radiated and conducted emission results obtained during conduct of thetests herein contained are comparable with those obtained during previoustests of the M151A2 Utility Trucks.
