TEC, IVRI Pune organised another 3-day Training Programme on
‘Laparoscopy and Endoscopy in Small Animal Practice’ from 18th
to 20th
February 2020
The Training and Education Centre, IVRI, Pune, in collaboration with Department of
Veterinary Surgery and Radiology, Mumbai Veterinary College (MAFSU), Mumbai, has
organised a three-day Training Programme on ‘Laparoscopy and Endoscopy in Small Animal
Practice’ from 18th
to 20th
February 2020 at Mumbai Veterinary College, Mumbai. A total of 18
participants including 10 veterinary officers from Department of Animal Husbandry, Gujarat
State, and veterinarians in Government and private sectors of Maharashtra attended the training.
The Chief Guest of the inaugural function of the Training Programme was Dr Uddhavraj
Dudhedia, Consultant Gynaecological Endoscopic and Robotic Oncosurgeon, Mumbai. Dr GS
Khandekar, Professor Surgery and Course Coordinator welcomed the Guests and the participants
and briefed about the laparoscopy facility at Mumbai Veterinary College and thanked the
Director of Animal Husbandry, Gujarat State for deputing the veterinary officers for the training
programme. Dr KN Bhilegaonkar SIC TEC Pune, spoke about the activities of IVRI Pune Centre
and briefed about different training programmes conducted by IVRI Centre for the veterinarians
of the region. He also thanked the Vice Chancellor MAFSU and Associate Dean Mumbai
Veterinary College for their support and cooperation in conduction of the course. Dr Zende,
Head, VPH and acting Associate Dean, Mumbai Veterinary College, spoke on the importance of
minimally invasive techniques such as laparoscopy and endoscopy in day to day clinical practice
and thanked IVRI and MVC for coming forward to jointly organise the training programme. The
Chief Guest Dr Uddhavraj stressed on the need of hands on training for improving the skills in
advanced techniques such as laparoscopy and expressed satisfaction for the large number of
participants showing interest to learn the advanced technique. He also spoke on the need to
develop more such training facilities to cater to the demand of veterinary and human surgeons
from not only India but also from neighbouring countries. Dr SD Tripathi, Assistant Professor,
Mumbai Veterinary College proposed vote of thanks.
The training programme included different lectures on various aspects of laparoscopy and
endoscopy such as general principles, indications, handling of laparoscopy and endoscopy
instruments, and hands on practice on different laparoscopic/endoscopic procedures. Dr GS
Khandekar Professor, Dr DU Lokhande Professor and Head, and Dr SD Tripathi Assistant
Professor, Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology, Mumbai Veterinary College and Dr
SV Gaikwad, Assistant Professor, College of Veterinary Sciences, Parbhani were the core
faculty. Dr SK Maiti, Principal Scientist, Division of Surgery, IVRI, was also an expert faculty.
The participants were very keen and enthusiastic and actively took part in the training
programme.
The valedictory function of the training programme was held on 20th
February 2020. Mr
Raju Shinde, Corporator, Mumbai Municipal Corporation, was the Chief Guest and Dr Vaibhav,
Veterinary Surgeon in Municipal Corporation Mumbai was the Guest of Honour. Mr Shinde
spoke on the role of veterinary surgeons in ever increasing demand for healthcare delivery for
animals, especially pet animals such as dogs and cats; and he praised the dedication of the
participants in keeping abreast with latest diagnostic and surgical techniques such as laparoscopy
and endoscopy. Dr HP Aithal in his address thanked the Department of Animal Husbandry
Gujarat for deputing the veterinary officers and sponsoring the training programme. He also
thanked the Vice Chancellor MAFSU, Associate Dean, and Dr DU Lokhande, Dr GS Khandekar
and Dr SD Tripathi from the Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology, Mumbai
Veterinary College for their support in successful conduction of the training and hoped for
greater cooperation in the future in organization of joint programmes. Dr DU Lokhande, Acting
Associate Dean, Mumbai Veterinary College thanked TEC IVRI Pune for giving the opportunity
to conduct the training and offered help to organise similar programmes in the future. He also
thanked the participants for their active participation in the training. Many participants expressed
their views and unique experience, and were very much satisfied with the training. Dr SD
Tripathi, Assistant Professor, Mumbai Veterinary College compered the proceedings and
proposed vote of thanks.
