he Teanaway Community Forest is a 50,272-acre orest situatedat the headwaters o the Yakima Basin watershed. The orest willbe managed through a partnership between the Washington statedepartments o Natural Resources (DNR) and Fish & Wildlie, withinput rom the local community and interested stakeholders.
DNR designed the community orest model, which was approved bystate lawmakers in 2011. The model is a tool to involve local citizens inprotecting working orests that support healthy communities throughgrazing, orestry, recreation, and conservation.
The Teanaway property was identifed as part o the Yakima BasinIntegrated Plan as an area o importance to saeguard the Yakima Basinwater supply and associated habitat, and to support the economyby preserving working lands and enhancing recreation opportunities.The Basin Plan was developed by a coalition o public and privateorganizations committed to increasing the quantity and quality owater in the Yakima River Basin.
